One day Tom was leaning down to pick up starfish that had been washed up on beach and he was picking them up one at a time and throwing them back in the water. Someone confused approached Tom and asked what he was doing.Tom replied, “I am throwing back starfish which were washed up on shore and if I don't throw them back into ocean then they will die up here because of lack of oxygen.” The man nodded and later said, “But there must be thousands of starfish on this beach and you can't possibly get all of them.Then how does throwing some of these starfish back in ocean make a difference？” Tom smiled. He bent down and picked up yet another starfish, then threw it back into ocean and then pointing toward that fish he replied, “It would make a difference to this one！！”

We all have the opportunity to help create positive changes but people tend to think that—what difference can he make? We might not be able to change the entire world but at least you can change a small part of it for someone.

Tu Youyou，an 89­year­old female scientist，became the first Chinese to win the Nobel Prize in science on Oct.5.Before that，she won the 2011 LaskerAward for finding out artemisinin (Qinghaosu)，which saved millions of lives.She was thankful for the Lasker prize，but said，“It is just a scientist's duty.I will go on fighting for the health of all humans.”

Tu kept her work in the 1960s and 1970s.In that age，Malaria could took away people's health.Scientists all over the world had already tried over 240，000 times but failed.Tu Youyou，a member of the Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine，Beijing，began to study Chinese herbs.

Before 2011，people didn't know Tu very much.Many friends played jokes with her “the Professor of Three Nones”：no degree，no study experience abroad，not a member of any Chinese national college.But she is hard­working.She read a lot of traditional Chinese medicine books and did a lot of researches on the disease.

In February，2012，Tu was named National Outstanding Females (One of the Ten) Tu is now a model of Chinese medical workers.
