设计说明

　　本节课利用检查作业，复习讨论Problems（问题）和Advice（建议），并引入话题。通过师生自由交谈，学习本课时生词。教学过程中充分利用课本材料练习本课的重点知识，并拓展一些活动让学生熟练运用所学的句型询问他人遇到的麻烦并能给出合理的建议。在听力训练环节，培养学生抓住关键信息的能力。在小组合作练习对话中，增强学生的合作意识，提高综合运用语言的能力。

教学目标

　　（1）掌握单词：member，pressure，compete。

　　（2）掌握句型：①Although you may be...，you should talk to them. ②Life shouldn’t just be about... ③I think Wei Ming should...

　　Step 1　Review

　　1. Ask the students to retell the letters in 3a.

　　2. Recite the sentences in Grammar Focus.

　　1. Show the students a picture and ask them a question.

　　T：I always feel worried. What should I do?

　　S1：Relax.

　　T：How can I relax? What can we do to lower our stress?

　　S1：You should listen to music.

　　2. Show some pictures about how to relax.

　　T：OK，this class we’ll learn some more ways to help us lower our stress.

　　S4：I should listen to music and read some books.

　　T：Well done. I think if you have lots of pressure（板书 pressure），you could talk to your parents or other family members.（板书member）At school，you should just be yourself. You shouldn’t compete with your classmates to get better grades.（板书compete）You should all be helping each other to improve.

　　T：Look at the picture in 1a. Where are they?

　　S1：They are on the beach.

　　T：What activities are they doing?

　　2. Write your activities.

　　3. What activities do you like to do to help lower your stress? Order them（1-8）with 1 being the most favorite thing you do to lower stress. Then discuss with your deskmate.

　　1. Read the sentences in 1c.（Explain some main phrases.）

　　2. Just listen for the first time. Then listen again and check the problems Wei Ming talks about.

　　3. Check the answers.

　　Wei Ming asks Alice for help. His parents give him too much pressure about school because they want him to get good grades. So Wei Ming doesn’t have enough free time. Alice tells him that he should talk to his parents. She says life shouldn’t just be about grades. Free time activities like sports and hanging out with friends are important，too. Wei Ming has to compete with his classmates. Alice thinks he shouldn’t do that. They should all be helping each other to improve.

　　Step 6　Pair work

　　1. Work in pairs. Suppose your partner is Wei Ming. You try to tell your partner some advice and say why.

　　2. Let two students make a model for the other students.

　　3. Practice the conversations in pairs.

　　（The teacher can walk around the classroom，and give some help to the students. ）

　　T：Make a survey about your problems and the activities to help you to lower your pressure in groups.

　　Fill in the chart and report it in groups.

　　Step 8　Cooperative inquiry

　　Discuss the following language points in groups and fill in the blanks.

　　1. member 名词，意为“成员；分子”。a member of the family家庭中的一员。

　　珍妮是我们小组里最活跃的成员。

　　Jenny is the most active member in our group.

　　2. compete 不及物动词，意为“竞争，对抗”。常用短语compete with sb. ，意为“与某人竞争”。其名词形式为competition。
