Step 1 Review
1. Ask the students to retell the letters in 3a.
2. Recite the sentences in Grammar Focus.
Step 2 Warming up & Leading in
1. Show the students a picture and ask them a question.
T:I always feel worried. What should I do?
S1:Relax.
T:How can I relax? What can we do to lower our stress?
S1:You should listen to music.
S2:You should play sports.
2. Show some pictures about how to relax.

Step 4 Practice
T:Look at the picture in 1a. Where are they?
S1:They are on the beach.
T:What activities are they doing?
S1:They are talking with each other and walking on the beach.
1. Read the phrases in 1a. (Explain some main phrases.)
2. Write your activities.
3. What activities do you like to do to help lower your stress? Order them(1-8)with 1 being the most favorite thing you do to lower stress. Then discuss with your deskmate.
4. Let some students say their answers like this in 1b:
S1:I always hang out with my friends to lower stress. S2:I like to listen to music to lower stress best. S3:I’d like to play sports when I’m stressed out. |
Step 5 Listening
1. Read the sentences in 1c.(Explain some main phrases.)
2. Just listen for the first time. Then listen again and check the problems Wei Ming talks about.
3. Check the answers.

I have to compete with my classmates at school.
4. Read the sentences in 1d first. Listen again and fill in the blanks.
5. Listen and check the answers with the class.

Wei Ming asks Alice for help. His parents give him too much pressure about school because they want him to get good grades. So Wei Ming doesn’t have enough free time. Alice tells him that he should talk to his parents. She says life shouldn’t just be about grades. Free time activities like sports and hanging out with friends are important,too. Wei Ming has to compete with his classmates. Alice thinks he shouldn’t do that. They should all be helping each other to improve.
Step 6 Pair work
1. Work in pairs. Suppose your partner is Wei Ming. You try to tell your partner some advice and say why.
2. Let two students make a model for the other students.
A:I think you should have more free time to play sports after class. B:Why? A:Because health is more important than grades. Grades aren’t everything in life. |
3. Practice the conversations in pairs.
(The teacher can walk around the classroom,and give some help to the students. )

Step 8 Cooperative inquiry
Discuss the following language points in groups and fill in the blanks.
1. member 名词,意为“成员;分子”。a member of the family家庭中的一员。
珍妮是我们小组里最活跃的成员。
Jenny is the most active member in our group.
2. compete 不及物动词,意为“竞争,对抗”。常用短语compete with sb. ,意为“与某人竞争”。其名词形式为competition。
我们没有料到会与经验如此丰富的队竞争。我们正为即将到来的竞赛作准备。
We didn’t expect to compete with such an experienced team. We are ready for the coming competition (compete).
3. pressure 名词,意为“压力”,是不可数名词。
不要给她太多的压力。
Don’t give her too much pressure.
4. unhappy为happy 的反义词,意为“不高兴的,不快乐的”。
5. each other意为“互相”,是相互代词。
互相帮助help each other 互相学习learn from each other
他们总是相互竞争。
