设计说明

　　本节课是阅读课，学习时应注重阅读策略和阅读技巧的运用及阅读能力的提升。在阅读文章时，让学生注意每一段的第一句或最后一句，这常常是该段的主题句。并且在阅读的过程中注意学会将重点内容记在笔记本上，这样能对文章有一个整体而又清晰的认识，从而更好地理解文章。本节课将通过小组讨论、教师展示、阅读、补全对话、做笔记、复述等方式让学生对新加坡的语言、食品、特色动物园和气候特点等有一个整体而清晰的认识。了解世界文化的多样性，建立跨文化意识。

教学目标

　　1. 知识目标

　　（1）掌握单词和短语：thousand，safe，simply，fear，whether，Indian，Japanese，fox，equator，whenever，spring，mostly；thousands of，on the one hand... on the other hand...， all year round。

　　（2）掌握句型：①For thousands of tourists from China， this small island in Southeast Asia is a wonderful and safe place to take a holiday. ②...Singapore is an English-speaking  country... ③...you won’t have any problem getting rice，noodles or dumplings. ④So you can choose to go whenever you like...

　　2. 能力目标

　　通过阅读课文，更好地运用记笔记的学习策略，提高阅读能力，了解新加坡的饮食、文化、气候特点和风土人情，开阔视野。

　　3. 情感目标

　　了解世界文化的多样性，建立跨文化意识。

教学过程

　　Step 1　Check the homework

　　Match the words with their meanings.

　　Step 2　Warming up

　　Ask and answer.

　　For example：

　　T：Do you like traveling?

　　S1：Yes，I do.

　　T：How many interesting places have you ever been to?

　　S1：I have ever been to...

　　T：What things should we think about if we travel? Discuss with your partners.

　　Lead the students to think about：

　　a. place to visit　b. best time to go and stay there

c. weather　d. transportation　e. history　f. food

g. people etc.

　　Step 3　Presentation

　　1. Show the photos to the class.

　　T：Look at the photos. Which country do you think the photos are about?

　　Ss：Singapore.

　　2. Have the students work in groups to talk about Singapore.

　　Step 4　Reading

　　1. Read the passage in 2b，and think about a key word for each paragraph.

　　Paragraph 1 languages

　　Paragraph 2 food

　　Paragraph 3 zoos

　　Paragraph 4 temperature/weather

　　Then explain each word with words，phrases or sentences.

　　Languages：Chinese and English.

　　Food：Chinese food，Indian food，Western food and Japanese food.

　　Zoos：There is a Night Safari，and you can go at night.

　　Temperature/weather：It’s almost the same all year round.

　　2. Read the passage in 2b again，and answer the following questions.

　　（1）For many Chinese tourists，what kind of place is Singapore?

　　It’s a wonderful and safe place to take a holiday.

　　（2）Can you find Chinese food in Singapore?

　　Yes，I can.

　　（3）At the Night Safari，when is the best time to watch the  animals? Why?

　　At night. Because a lot of animals only wake up at night.

　　（4）Why is the temperature in Singapore almost the same  all year round?

　　Because the island is so close to the equator.

　　3. Read the passage and translate the following phrases：

　　4. Read the text again. Work on 2c. Use the information from the text to correct the statements.

　　Answers：1. Most people in Singapore speak English as well as Putonghua.

2. It is easy to get many different kinds of good food in Singapore.

3. It is better to see lions and tigers at night because they will probably be awake.

　　5. You can visit Singapore at any time of the year/in any season.

　　6. Work on 2d. Ask two students to read the conversation to check the answers in class. Ask students to recite the text after class.

　　7. Work on 2e. Make notes about Singapore. Get students to write down anything that they remember about Singapore. The teacher can give them the key word of each paragraph to help them.

　　Step 5　Practice

　　1. Fill in the blanks. Then check the answers according to the passage in 2b.

　　Have you ever been（be）to Singapore? For thousands of tourists from China，this small island in Southeast Asia is a wonderful and safe place to take a holiday. On the one hand，more than three quarters of the population are（be） Chinese，so you can simply speak Putonghua a lot of the time. On the other hand，Singapore is an English-speaking country，so it’s also a good place to practice your English!

　　Have you ever tried （try） Chinese food outside of China? Maybe you fear that you won’t be （not be） able to find anything good to eat when you travel. In Singapore，however，you will find （find） a lot of food from China；you won’t have （not have） any problem getting rice，noodles or dumplings. Singapore is also an excellent place to try new food. Whether you like Indian food，Western food or Japanese food，you will find （find） it all in Singapore!

　　Most large cities have zoos，but have you ever been （be） to a zoo at night? Singapore has （have） a Night Safari. It might seem strange to go to a zoo when it’s dark. However，if you go to see lions，tigers or foxes during the daytime，they’ll probably be asleep （sleep）! A lot of animals only wake （wake） up at night，so this is the best time to watch them. At the Night Safari，you can watch （watch） these animals in a more natural environment than in a normal zoo.

　　2. Let the students try to retell the passage according to the mind map.

　　Step 6　Cooperative inquiry

　　Discuss the following language points in groups and fill in the blanks.

　　1. thousand num. 一千　　　thousands of数以千计的

　　如果thousand 前面有具体数字，就用“数字+ thousand”，此时表达具体数量，thousand用单数形式。thousands of“数以千计的”，此时前面不加具体数字，thousand用复数形式，表达不确定的数量。

　　I think there are over two thousand（thousand）students in our school. 我认为我们学校有两千多名学生。

　　There are thousands（thousand）of students in our school. 我们学校有数千名学生。

　　2. on the one hand... on the other hand... 一方面……另一方面……

　　On the one hand，he wants to make progress in learning English，and on the other hand he doesn’t spend time on it.

　　3. safe adj. 安全的（反义词：dangerous）　safety n. 安全

safely adv. 安全地

　　It is safe （safe）to cross the street when the traffic light is green. 绿灯亮时过马路是安全的。

　　4. whether conj. 不管……（还是）；或者……（或者）；是否

　　I’m going whether you like it or not.

　　不管你愿不愿意，我都要走了。

　　I wonder whether you will come or not.

　　我想知道你是否会来。

　　5. Indian adj. 印度的 n. 印度人

　　Indians love Indian culture. 印度人热爱印度文化。

　　6. Japanese n. 日本人；日语 adj. 日本的；日本人的；日语的　Japan n. 日本

　　These Japanese are from Japan；they can speak Japanese well.（Japan）（用Japan的适当形式填空）

　　7. ...you won’t have any problem getting rice，noodles or  dumplings. ……你将不会有任何问题找到米饭、面条或者水饺。

　　have problems（in） doing... 意为“做……有困难”。类似的短语还有：have difficulty （in） doing... 。
