On Saturday night, a five-person team of the Chinese e-sports club, with the full name EDward Gaming, won the 2021 League of Legends World Championship in Reykjavik , Iceland , beating defending champion Damwon KIA (DK) from South Korea. The live streaming of the championship had over 200 million viewers on two major domestic smartphone apps and other channels.
The team has taken the opportunity to share Chinese culture with the world. At the beginning of the championship, the members of EDG and other staff displayed tai chi, martial arts and traditional Chinese costumes in Reykjavik, launching a “Chinese hurricane” in the Icelandic capital. Now the posting of photos and videos on social networks have spread that hurricane to the whole world.
With the popularity of digital technology, new forms of cultural exchanges have been appearing, of which e-sports are of the hottest. Unlike texts and videos, e-sports go beyond the barriers of language and are understandable around the world.
Also e-sports appeal most to those in their early 20s, as shown by the carnival of college students on Saturday night. That in turn makes them a good bridge of communication between Chinese youngsters and their counterparts (同行) around the world. More importantly, the e-sports industry is sustainable (可持续的) in spreading Chinese culture, as the large audiences mean huge commercial potential. In 2020 alone, the sales profit of the domestic e-sports industry went beyond $ 43.56 billion, and involved 280,000 companies, which in tum created over 10 million jobs.
As early as 2019, Hainan province announced its ambitious plan of building an international e-sports center. On Nov 5, the Organizing Committee of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou city, announced it had listed eight e-sports as events in the Games. Both show the strong policy support being given to e-sports.
With more Chinese star gaming clubs and teams appearing, the industry is expected to boom and continue spreading Chinese culture to the world.
4. What can we know from the news report?
A. E-sports play a significant role in bridging cultures between nations.
B. The number of the viewers around the world reached over 200 million.
C. There was a severe hurricane in Reykjavik, Iceland on Saturday night.
D. EDward Gaming has won the LoL World Championship twice on end.
5. What do the numbers in Paragraph 4 indicate?
A. E-sports appealed to people of all ages.
B. 2020 witnessed a turning point of e-sports.
C. E-sports gave birth to many new companies.
D. E-sports boosted economic development.
6. What can we infer from the last but one paragraph?
A. The first international E-sports centre was built in 2019.
B. E-sports enjoyed great popularity in Hainan and Zhejiang.
C. E-sports received official support from the authorities.
D. E-sports were first listed as events in the Asian Games.
7. What is the author’s attitude towards the e-sports industry?

根据第二段“The team has taken the opportunity to share Chinese culture with the world (该团队借此机会与世界分享中国文化)”以及最后一段“With more Chinese star gaming clubs and teams appearing, the industry is expected to boom and continue spreading Chinese culture to the world(随着更多中国明星游戏俱乐部和团队的出现,该行业有望蓬勃发展,并继续向世界传播中国文化)”可知,中国电子竞技俱乐部分享中国文化,随着电竞行业的蓬勃发展,中国文化会继续向世界传播,可见,电子竞技在沟通各国文化方面发挥着重要作用。因此,从新闻报道中我们能了解到A项“E-sports play a significant role in bridging cultures between nations.(电子竞技在沟通各国文化方面发挥着重要作用)”符合题意,故选A项。
通读第四段,尤其是“In 2020 alone, the sales profit of the domestic e-sports industry went beyond $ 43.56 billion, and involved 280,000 companies, which in tum created over 10 million jobs.(仅在2020年,国内电子竞技产业的销售利润就超过435.6亿美元,涉及28万家公司,创造了1000多万个就业岗位)”可知,电子竞技产业产生了巨大的商业价值,促进了经济的发展。 Sitting in front of the television with snacks after work is a popular entertainment. Thanks to streaming services that play every episode (集) of a television series automatically, viewers don’t even need to reach for the remote control. But is it laziness that keeps us chewing? Or is it possible that the experience of watching TV can stimulate (刺激) our appetite?
According to the Cleveland Clinic, television isn’t so much an appetite stimulant as it is an appetite distraction. When watching TV, we’re engaged in the program, paying less attention to the body signals that tell us we’re full. Instead, we’re engaged in passive consumption.
Combining television and snacking creates a cognitive (认知的) association in your brain that may cause you to consider the two activities intertwined. In other words, you might reach for some pizza not because you’ re hungry, but because you’ve identified television with eating. You might even eat more depending on the length of a program. You might eat less if you were watching a half-hour sitcom rather than a super-sized episode of a drama.
That’s not to say the content of a program isn’t influential. In 2013, a study in the journal Appetite looked at a group of 80 subjects, half of whom were told to watch a cooking program and half of whom were told to watch a nature show. Both groups were presented with equal amounts of chocolate-covered candies. Researchers found that viewers of the cooking show tended to eat more chocolate-covered candies than the nature show viewers.
So is snacking while watching television that bad? Like most things, it’s OK in moderation (适度). Eating meals away from the TV can encourage mindful eating, which directs your attention to the food in front of you. Better yet, you won’t have to struggle to hear your favorite show over all that chewing.
8. Why are the questions raised in the first paragraph?
A. To introduce the topic. B. To inspire readers’ imagination.
C. To show the author’s curiosity. D. To stress the influence of laziness.
9. What does the underlined world“intertwined”mean?
A. Well received. B. Closely connected.
C. Passively achieved. D. Hardly interacted.
10. What are the findings in the journal Appetite based on?
A. Group surveys. B. Previous research.
C. Viewers’ opinions. D. Contrast experiments.
11. What might the author agree with according to the passage?
A. Watching TV stimulates your appetite.
B. It’s harmful to snack while watching TV.
C. It’s not advisable to watch TV while eating.
D. Watching TV will help you focus on your food.
A 9. B 10. D 11. C
根据文章第一段开头提出我们看电视时会吃零食这个现象,然后在第一段末提出问题“But is it laziness that keeps us chewing? Or is it possible that the experience of watching TV can stimulate (刺激) our appetite?(但是,是因为懒惰我们一直吃东西吗?还是看电视就有可能会刺激我们的食欲?)”以及后文是就这两个问题进行讨论可知,此处在第一段提出问题是为了介绍文章的主题,故选A。
【9题详解】
词句猜测题。根据文章第二段“In other words, you might reach for some pizza not because you’ re hungry, but because you’ve identified television with eating(换句话说,你伸手拿披萨并不是因为你感到饥饿,而是因为你已经将电视和吃视为一体了)”可知,此句是对前文的解释。
根据文章第四段“In 2013, a study in the journal Appetite looked at a group of 80 subjects, half of whom were told to watch a cooking program and half of whom were told to watch a nature show(在2013年在期刊《Appetite》中,它就80个人进行了调查。一半的人观看饮食节目,另一半的人则观看自然节目)”可知,期刊《Appetite》是基于两组人的对比实验得出的结论,故选D。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Eating meals away from the TV can encourage mindful eating, which directs your attention to the food in front of you. Better yet, you won’t have to struggle to hear your favorite show over all that chewing(远离电视吃饭可以让你用心饮食,会让你的注意力放在面前的食物上。更好地是,你不用边吃饭边努力去听你最喜欢的节目)”可知,尽管作者认为适度地边看电视边吃东西没有害处,但作者仍然认为吃饭时远离电视,专心吃更好。故选C。
D
Music tends to get stuck in our heads. Sometimes a tune(曲调) stays on our thoughts and then plays, and replays, which seems never to end. This interesting phenomenon, commonly called “earworm”, becomes a subject explored by scientists. Earworms can run around our heads from several minutes to numerous hours. As the melody (旋律) repeats, it becomes stuck in our mind. Even though our ears do not hear the tune, our brain continues to play it.
Earworms often take the form of song pieces rather than entire songs, and the song is usually a familiar one. Researchers are uncertain why some songs are more likely to get stuck in our heads than others, but everyone has their own tunes. Often those songs have a simple, pleasant melody and charming, repetitive lyrics (歌词), such as popular commercial jingles and slightly annoying radio hits. Recent or repeated exposure to a song or even a small part of a song can also cause earworms, as can word associations, such as a phrase similar to the lyrics of a song.
While earworms might be annoying, most people report they are pleasant or at least neutral(中立). Only a third of people are disturbed by the earworms. How people deal with their earworms depends on how they feel about them. Those with positive feelings about their stuck songs prefer to just “let them be” while those with negative feelings turn to more behavioral responses, such as singing, talking, or even praying. They are also looking at whether everyday strategies help, like going for a run or doing a crossword. For them, getting an unwanted tune out of their head is a relief. But of course the song that cures you might just end up being the next one that gets stuck.
12. Which of the following is regarded as an earworm?
A. A creature living inside our ears. B. A melody repeating in our heads.
C. A tune heard in our ears. D. A complete and familiar song.
13. Which is more likely to cause earworms?
A. Tunes with annoying lyrics. B. Melodies with strong beats.
C. Repeated music exposure. D. Widespread commercial ads.
14. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. People’s annoyance of earworms.
B. People’s embarrassment over earworms.
C. People’s methods to relieve earworms.
D. People’s reaction to earworms.
15. What can be the best title of the passage?
A. Why That Song Sticks in Our Head B. Why the Lyrics Become Impressive
C. How Earworms Affect Our Life D. How a Tune Becomes a Big Hit
B 13. C 14. C 15. A

根据文章第一段“Music tends to get stuck in our heads. Sometimes a tune(曲调) stays on our thoughts and then plays, and replays, which seems never to end(音乐往往会在我们脑海里挥之不去。有时,一个曲调会停留在我们脑海里,播放,再播放,似乎没有终点)”可知,耳虫效应指的是一个旋律或一首歌在我们脑海中重复播放,故选B。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第二段“Recent or repeated exposure to a song or even a small part of a song can also cause earworms(最近或者重复听到一首歌或者一首歌的一小部分也能造成耳虫效应)”可知,重复地听到一首歌会引起耳虫效应,故选C。
根据文章第一段“Music tends to get stuck in our heads. Sometimes a tune(曲调) stays on our thoughts and then plays, and replays, which seems never to end. 【导语】这是一篇说明文。本文阐述了机器人送餐越来越流行,新冠疫情后,运送需求仍很高,人们已经习惯了这项服务。
【16题详解】
根据上一句“The robots were being tested in limited numbers before the pandemic started(在新冠疫情开始之前,这种机器人正在进行有限数量的测试)”和下一句“Hundreds of little robots are rolling around colleges and cities in the United States, Britain and elsewhere.(数以百计的小机器人在美国、英国和其他地方的大学和城市里穿梭)”可知,新冠疫情之前,送餐机器人仅在有限数量的测试阶段,疫情爆发后,送餐机器人在美国、英国和其他地方的大学和城市被广泛使用,推知,该空应该表达在疫情爆发后送餐机器人需求量激增的原因,因此,G选项“But pandemic-related worker shortages and a desire for contactless delivery have expanded their use.(但与疫情相关的劳动力短缺和对非接触式配送的需求扩大了它们的使用)”切题。故选G项。
根据下文“They are operating in Milton Keynes,England; Modesto, California; and the company’s hometown of Tallinn, Estonia.
根据上文“The robots use cameras, sensors and GPS to move around and even cross streets on their own at the speed of 8 kilometers per hour. Operators keep watch on several robots at a time(这些机器人使用摄像头、传感器和GPS以每小时8公里的速度自行移动,甚至横穿街道。操作员一次监视几个机器人)”可知,推知,机器人使用的摄像头、传感器和GPS等设备非常灵敏,基本不需要人为干涉,因此,F选项“but they say they rarely need to stop or move them around a barrier. (但他们说,他们很少需要在障碍物周围停下或移动他们)”切题。该选项中的but 后的“they”对应上文中的“Operators”。故选F项。
【19题详解】
根据下一句“The robots have to be recharged regularly. They are slow and cannot travel far. They will not leave food at the door(机器人必须定期充电。它们很慢,不能走很远。他们不会把食物留在门口)”可知,此处列举了送餐机器人的局限性,因此,A选项“There are some limitations for now (目前存在一些局限性)”切题。该选项中的“limitations”对应上文中的“recharged, slow, will not leave food at the door”。故选A项。

The Quarrel
Coretti got a prize and I did not. However, it wasn’t out of envy that I quarreled with him this morning.
When I was writing in my copy-book for calligraphy this morning, Coretti jogged (轻碰) my arm and spoiled (破坏) my paper. I said a rude word to him angrily. He smiled, “I did not do it intentionally.” I should have believed him, because I know him; but it displeased me that he should smile, and I thought: “Now that he has had a prize, he has grown rude!”
After a while, to revenge (为……报仇) myself, I jogged him to spoil his paper. “Enrico, you did that on purpose!” he said to me. He raised his hand but drew it back when the teacher saw it. Then he added, “I shall wait for you outside!” Now my anger died down and I felt sorry. No, Coretti could not have done it intentionally. He is good, I thought. I recalled how he had worked and helped his sick mother in his own home; and then how heartily he had been welcomed in my house; and how he had pleased my father. And I thought of the advice given by my father—“If you do something wrong, do apologize!” But I did not dare to.
I was ashamed to say “sorry”. Looking at Coretti out of the corner of my eye, I felt I loved him. I said to myself, “Courage!” But the words “excuse me” stuck in my throat. He glanced at me from time to time, and he seemed to be more sorrowful than angry. But at such times I looked directly into him to show that I was not afraid. He repeated, “We shall meet outside!” And I said, “We shall meet outside!”
At last school was over.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

On hearing the words, I stood still in amazement and couldn’t believe my ears.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Alone in the street with a ruler in my hand, I noticed he was following me. I stopped and waited for him, ruler in hand. He came up. I raised my ruler, afraid. “No, Enrico, "he said. With his kindly smile, waving the ruler aside with his hand, he continued, “let us be friends again, as before."
On hearing the words, I stood still in amazement and couldn’t believe my ears. And then I felt what seemed to be a push on my shoulders, and I found myself in his arms. He kissed me, and said: "We’ll have no more quarrels, will we?” “Never again! Never again!” I replied. And we parted content. But when I went home, and told my father all about it, thinking to give him pleasure, his face clouded over, and he said: "You should have been the first to offer your hand, since you were in the wrong." And then snatching the ruler from my hand, he broke in two.
