People from all over the U.S. have been traveling there for almost 200 years to take baths in the hot water. These hot waters come naturally from the earth. They were once thought to act like a kind of medicine for those who bathed in them. Although they are now known to not carry any special powers, people still travel from far away to enjoy the calming heat of the natural pools. Temperatures of the hot water can reach 145 degrees Fahrenheit! The city is fascinating for other reasons, too. Due to its location, tough guys like Al Capone used to hide out here in the mid-1920s. Many famous people over the years have visited this place, curious about its hidden natural treasures. Hot Springs is still a wonderful tourist attraction today. We spend around one third of our lives in bed, and the body does a lot of its repair work as we sleep, so enough good quality sleep is very important to our health. It doesn't stop there, though—some sleep positions are healthier than others. So which sleep position is the healthiest?
Sleeping on your back is the healthiest sleep position, Health benefits include avoiding back and neck pain. Because the head is raised above the stomach when you sleep on your back, this position is best for people who suffer from nighttime acid reflux (胃酸逆流) as well. Around 80% of heartburn sufferers have problems during the night, so sleeping on their back could help a lot of people to enjoy a good night's sleep. If the sleep position alone is not enough to alleviate the condition, try raising the head of the bed by up to 4 inches by placing blocks under it.
When you sleep on your back, your face is in a natural position. This means less wrinkles (皱纹).
If you really can't face sleeping on your back, another healthy sleep position is the side sleep. It's almost as good as the back position, and it's better for people who snore (打鼾) and their partners. Whichever sleep position you choose, use a pillow that supports the head and the neck without raising the head unnaturally, as this can bring neck pain.
24. Which is NOT one of the benefits of sleeping on the back?
A. It can avoid acid reflux. B. It makes people look younger.
C. It's good for heartburn sufferers. D. It helps people get rid of stomach pain.
25. Which is the best sleep position for people who snore?
A. Sleep on the face. B. Sleep on the side.
C. Sleep on the back. D. Sleep without pillows.
26. The underlined word “alleviate” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.
A. make it less serious B. make people forget
C. make it less useful D. make people enjoy
27. What does the text mainly talk about?
A. Ways to keep us healthy. B. The importance of sleep.
C. Sleep's repairing functions. D. Healthy positions of sleep.
D 25. B 26. A 27. D
根据第二段的“this position is best for people who suffer from nighttime acid reflux (胃酸逆流) as well(这种睡姿对夜间胃酸倒流的人也很适用)”和“Around 80% of heartburn sufferers have problems during the night, so sleeping on their back could help a lot of people to enjoy a good night's sleep(大约80%的胃灼热患者会在夜间出现问题,所以平躺着睡觉可以帮助很多人享受良好的睡眠)”以及第三段的“When you sleep on your back, your face is in a natural position. This means less wrinkles (皱纹).(当你仰卧睡觉时,你的脸处于自然的姿势。这意味着皱纹更少。)”可知,仰睡的好处包括避免胃酸反流,让人看起来年轻以及对胃灼热患者有益,不包括D选项“可以帮助人们摆脱胃痛”。故选D。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段的“another healthy sleep position is the side sleep. It's almost as good as the back position, and it's better for people who snore (打鼾) and their partners.(另一种健康的睡姿是侧睡。这种睡姿几乎和背部睡姿一样好,而且更适合打鼾的人和他们的伴侣。)”可知,对于打鼾的人来说,侧身睡最好,故选B。
【26题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段“Around 80% of heartburn sufferers have problems during the night, so sleeping on their back could help a lot of people to enjoy a good night's sleep.(大约80%的胃灼热患者会在夜间出现问题,所以平躺着睡觉可以帮助很多人享受良好的睡眠。)”及“try raising the head of the bed by up to 4 inches by placing blocks under it(试着在床下垫块,把床头抬高4英寸)”可知,划线词所在的句子表示“如果单靠平躺睡不能缓解这个情况,那就试着在床下垫块,把床头抬高4英寸”,因此划线词的意思是“缓解”,即make it less serious,故选A。
通读全文,尤其是第一段的“So which sleep position is the healthiest?(那么哪种睡姿是最健康的呢?)”

William Butler Yeats, a most famous Irish writer, was born in Dublin on June 13,1865. His childhood lacked the harmony (和睦) that was typical of a happy family. Later, Yeats shocked his family by saying that he remembered "little of childhood but its pain". In fact, he inherited (继承) excellent taste in art from his family — both his father and his brother were painters. But he finally settled on literature, particularly drama (戏剧) and poetry.
Yeats had strong faith in coming of new artistic movements. He set himself the fresh task in founding an Irish national theatre in the late 1890s. His early theatrical experiments, however, were not received favourably at the beginning. He didn't lose heart, and finally enjoyed success in his poetical drama.
Compared with his dramatic works, Yeats's poems attract much admiring notice. The subject matter includes love, nature, history, time and aging. Though Yeats generally relied on very traditional forms, he brought modern sensibility to them. As his literary life progressed, his poetry grew finer and richer, which led him to worldwide recognition.
He had not enjoyed a major public life since winning the Nobel Price in 1923. Yet, he continued writing almost to the end of his life, for there is no other example in literary history of a poet who produced his greatest works between the ages of 50 and 70. He died in 1939, aged 73.
28. Which of the following can describe Yeats's family?
A. It filled Yeats's childhood with laughter.
B. It was shocked by Yeats's choice.
C. It was a typically wealthy family.
D. It had an artistic atmosphere.
29. According to the passage, which is NOT TRUE about Yeats’ poems?
A. The theme of his poems includes love, nature, history, time and aging.
B. His poems catch more attention than his dramatic works.
C. His poems only receive recognition in Ireland.
D. His poems carried traditional forms and modern sensibility.
30. Where is the text most probably taken from?
A. A travel guide.
B. A literary journal.
C. A science book.
D. A health magazine.
31. What is the passage mainly about?
A. Yeats's literary achievements.
B. Yeats's historical influence.
C. Yeats's artistic ambition.
D. Yeats's national honour.
D 29. C 30. B 31. A

The life of an actor appears attractive and many young people dream about becoming one. But the truth is, it is very hard work. If you're successful, there are deadlines to be met, appointments to keep and the press to deal with. If you're not successful, then life is extremely tough.
I remember when I started out, I had to search the advertisement board at my drama school every day to look for acting jobs. Drama school was expensive and I needed extra cash to help pay the fees. I welcomed every small job. I played extras in many crowd scenes and became a confident participant in a lot of TV commercials for hair shampoo, soap and washing powder.
I had been working for about two years before I got my lucky break. One day, as I was passing the drama school, I decided to go in to check the notice board. There was nothing on it and I was just leaving when the secretary came along the corridor with a piece of paper. She asked me how I was and I told her life was hard and work was difficult to find. The next moment, she put the paper in my hand and walked away. My hands were shaking as I unfolded the paper, full of expectation. To my surprise, it was an audition (试演) for a clown (小丑) for the Canadian circus. I couldn't stop myself from laughing. I had expected an audition with a famous director for a new film!
When I was at drama school, there had been a course in acrobatics and clown tricks. I had gained top marks in this course for originality and daring. Later I went to the audition feeling very strange. This was not what I'd had in mind when I enrolled in drama school. To my surprise, the job as a clown turned out to be exactly what I wanted. I loved every moment of getting dressed up and putting on the make-up. I had the opportunity to travel the world and I was more than an actor, I was an entertainer as well. I had visited over 32 different countries and entertained millions of people.
32. The first paragraph is about how ________ it is to be an actor, whether you're successful or not.
A. easy B. attractive C. enjoyable D. difficult
33. According to paragraph 3, the writer went into the drama school ________.
A. to look for a job B. to see the secretary
C. to collect a piece of paper D. to put a notice on the notice board
