This stry tk place in France during Wrld War II. At the edge f a large frest lived a French girl named Marie. She spent her time lking after gats in the frest. One day, she was sitting n a fallen tree when she heard a vice frm behind the bush. It said ,“Dn’t lk arund , but listen carefully . Yu knw the little windw in the rf ver yur bed. Tnight , at 11 ’clck , stand n yur bed and hld yur lighted lamp just under the windw fr ten minutes .And then put ut the light and g t sleep.” The girl did as the unseen man tld her . T her great jy, she heard a plane flying rund and ver her cttage. “I’m helping the plane!” Marie said t herself. At that time thusands f French peple were hiding in the frests and muntains t resist the Germans. They were in need f fd and weapns, which had t be drpped t them frm planes cming frm England. In this way, Marie carried ut her task . Then ne mrning Marie met the wner f the vice, a yung French sldier. He sat near her and said, “ Thank yu, Marie, fr what yu have dne fr the cuntry. Tnight is very imprtant. Things f great value will be drpped here and the light must be shwn at 3 ’clck in the mrning. Can yu keep awake till then? ” “ I wn’t fail.” Marie ndded. Night fell. Suddenly, tw German sldiers burst int her cttage, with the guns in their hands. They searched the cttage and remained in her rm and she was frbidden t g utside. She sat still, wndering what she culd d. She culdn’t stand n the bed t shw the light any mre. She remembered her prmise t the French sldier. At the same time, the tw enemy sldiers were asleep and all was quiet.
