Ask people to name the world's tallest peak and anybody with sound general knowledge will name Mount Qomolangma. But quiz them on its exact height and many will hesitate. Recently, a team of over 30 Chinese surveyors left the base camp at Mount Qomolangma for a higher spot on its journey to the peak on Wednesday as part of the country's mission to remeasure the height of the world's highest mountain.
The remeasurement of the peak's height is a part of China's latest large-scale scientific survey of Qomolangma. Preparation of the project was started in early March, with 53 surveyors from the First Geodetic Surveying Brigade (大地测量旅) getting stationed near Qomolangma to carry out adaptive climbing and training in other technical skills, and they are going to the survey on the top of the mountain.
To ensure the accuracy of the measurement, and to work it in a more scientific way, experts from the Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping, the Shaanxi Bureau of Surveying, and the China Geological Survey were invited to assist in the technical design and planning of the project from the beginning.

Whether in the home or the workplace, social robots are going to become a lot more common in the next few years. Social robots are about to bring technology to the everyday world in a more humanized way, said Cynthia Breazeal, chief scientist at the robot company Jibo.
While household robots today do the normal housework, social robots will be much more like companions than mere tools. For example, these robots will be able to distinguish when someone is happy or sad. This allows them to respond more appropriately to the user.
The Jibo robot, arranged to ship later this year, is designed to be a personalized assistant. You can talk to the robot, ask it questions, and make requests for it to perform different tasks. The robot doesn't just deliver general answers to questions; it responds based on what it learns about each individual in the household. It can do things such as reminding an elderly family member to take medicine or taking family photos.
Social robots are not just finding their way into the home. They have potential applications in everything from education to health care and are already finding their way into some of these spaces.
Fellow Robots is one company bringing social robots to the market. The company's "Oshbot" robot is built to assist customers in a store, which can help the customers find items and help guide them to the product’s location in the store. It can also speak different languages and make recommendations for different items based on what the customer is shopping for.
The more interaction the robot has with humans, the more it learns. But Oshbot, like other social robots, is not intended to replace workers, but to work alongside other employees. "We have technologies to train social robots to do things not for us, but with us," said Breazeal.
28.How are social robots different from household robots?
A.They can control their emotions. B.They are more like humans.
C.They do the normal housework. D.They respond to users more slowly.
29.What can a Jibo robot do according to Paragraph 3?
A.Communicate with you and perform operations.
B.Answer your questions and make requests.
C.Take your family pictures and deliver milk.
D.Obey your orders and remind you to take pills.
30.We can learn from the last paragraph that social robots will ______.
A.train employees B.be our workmates
C.improve technologies D.take the place of workers
31.What does the passage mainly present?
A.A new design idea of household robots. B.Marketing strategies for social robots.
C.Information on household robots. D.An introduction to social robots.

When the world responded to the COVID-19 epidemic with broad lockdown orders, home delivery services lacked the manpower to keep up with the explosion in demand. Stores and companies went on doing the hiring; in some areas, it was very hard to get goods delivered.
You know what might have made things a bit easier? Drones.(无人机) It has taken years for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to allow the use of unmanned aerial devices for commercial delivery. Over the course of a decade, we've gone from a complete ban to slow, heavily regulated, and restricted initial testing.
At the end of August 2020, the FAA finally gave Amazon approval for its Prime Air drone delivery fleet. It did that by classifying Amazon as an "air carrier" and making it obey some relatively recent regulations intended to facilitate drone deliveries.
The FAA's rules initially required that private drones remain in sight of the operator at all times. That simply won't work for delivery services. So in 2019, the agency introduced a special certification process that would allow approved pilots to operate drones across much longer distances.
Amazon will now be able to join Google in drone deliveries. The company revealed that its fleet can carry packages weighing up to 5 pounds and deliver them within a 15-mile range in less than 30 minutes. The FAA also recently granted the company Zipline, a temporary waiver(豁免) allowing it to deliver medical supplies in North Carolina. Zipline had been operating for some time in Africa. But the United States continues to fall behind both developed and developing nations in giving drone companies the freedom to test their services.
While Amazon still faces several technical problems and strict regulations, it's great that the government is giving it this new room to move. Too bad it took the feds this long to allow it, especially as the pandemic made drone deliveries not just an innovation, but something we could have used yesterday.
32.What can be inferred from Paragraph 2?
A.Drones are the most convenient aerial devices.
B.The use of drones was completely banned at first.
C.It took a short time to allow the use of drones.
D.FAA allows drones to serve for the army.
33.According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE?
A.Home delivery services were in great demand because of the COVID-19 epidemic.
B.Rules for private drones also works for delivery services.
C.Amazon's pilots were allowed to operate drones across much longer distances until 2020.
D.America took the lead in giving drone companies the freedom to test their services.
34.What's Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.The companies allowed to use drone delivery. B.Amazon joining in drone deliveries.
C.Drone deliveries used in medical service. D.Zipline operating in Africa and America.
35.What's the author's attitude toward Amazon's drone delivery?
A.Neutral. B.Negative. C.Favorable. D.Indifferent.

Evaluating Sources(来源) of Health Information
Making good choices about your own health requires reasonable evaluation. A key first step in bettering your evaluation ability is to look carefully at your sources of health information. Reasonable evaluation includes knowing where and how to find relevant information, how to separate fact from opinion, how to recognize poor reasoning, and how to analyze information and the reliability of sources. 36_________
Go to the original source. Media reports often simplify the results of medical research. Find out for yourself what a study really reported, and determine whether it was based on good science. Think about the type of study. 37_________
Watch for misleading language. Some studies will find that a behaviour "contributes to" or is "associated with" an outcome; this does not mean that a certain course must lead to a certain result. 38 ______ Carefully read or listen to information in order to fully understand it.
Use your common sense. If a report seems too good to be true, probably it is. Be especially careful of information contained in advertisements. 39_________ Evaluate "scientific" statements carefully, and be aware of quackery(江湖骗术).
40________ Friends and family members can be a great source of ideas and inspiration, but each of us needs to find a healthy lifestyle that works for us.
Developing the ability to evaluate reasonably and independently about health problems will serve you well throughout your life.
A. Make choices that are right for you.
B. The goal of an ad is to sell you something.
C. Be sure to work through the critical questions.
D. And examine the findings of the original research.
E. Distinguish between research reports and public health advice.

Social Media Detox
January 22, 2021
By Li Hua
With the development of science and technology, there appear an increasing number of social media apps. Many teenagers are addicted to the colorful apps, leading to a bad effect on our life. The activity social media detox aims to raise the awareness of stepping away from social media, and also improve the ability to control ourselves.
Here are some of my suggestions to do the detox. Firstly, you can give your phones to your parents to avoid giving in. In addition, it is a good idea to pick up some hobbies, which helps to spend less time online. What's more, you can visit your friends and have a proper conversation, realizing the value of real contact.
I really consider the activity makes a great difference to us teenagers. By staying away from the various social media apps, we can not only concentrate on studies, but also communicate more with people in reality.
