Ⅲ 阅读理解(共10小题,计25分)
A
I'm confused these days. We are taught at home and at school that using violence(暴力) is the least civilized(文明的) way to solve problems. For example, last week I thought about hitting my friend for winning a beautiful shell while we were playing at the beach. I talked with him instead and we came to an agreement. If two adults had a disagreement, and if they used violence towards each other in order to win, is it all right?
When two countries disagree, they often fight a war. Why is using violence not okay at home, at school, or in your country but okay between countries? So many people have been killed because of wars, not only soldiers but ordinary people, even small children and babies. And refugees(难民) exist, too.
A war is a great violence, like two people fighting over a shell, just much bigger. Adults say they are fighting wars in order to solve problems and make peace. But can you really “make peace” by killing so many people? I don't think bombs(炸弹) can reach people's hearts and change them. Bombs can't create love and caring, and that's what we need in the world. Why do adults use violence so quickly? Why can't they use their wisdom(智慧) and talk it over?
Adults might say that things are not that easy. But they are the ones that teach us to be kind, not to hurt people, and not to kill. Why don't they act as what they say?
—A page from a 12-year-old boy, Joshua's diary.

A.Love and caring for each other.
B.Don't use violence so quickly.
C.Stop using bombs in wars.
D.Don't hurt or kill people in wars.
( )23 What does the sentence “Bombs can't create love and caring, and that's what we need in the world.” mean?
A.We need to use violence to solve problems.
B.What we need is bombs.
C.We need bombs to create love and caring.
D.What we need in the world is love and caring.
( )24 From the reading we can see Joshua wants adults to________ .

A limit of Your Kindness
Steve put his car in the garage to carry out the repair work. So, he decided to travel by train before the car was ready. One day, he saw a homeless guy at the train station at night. He felt pity for him, so he gave him some change from his pocket.
The homeless guy thanked him for it. But the next day again, he noticed the homeless guy at the same place. This time Steve went out of the station and brought him a meal. The homeless guy thanked him for his kindness. But Steve asked him, “How did you do that?”
The homeless guy looked up at him with a smile and said, “By Showing Love.”
Steve didn't understand it, “What do you mean by that?”
“In my life, I make sure that everyone is happy. I always help everyone,” the homeless guy replied.
“Do you regret it?” Steve asked.
“No, It just hurts my soul. When I was in need, the people I gave the shirt to wouldn't give me a sleeve(袖子) of that same shirt. So, it's better to build your own house and invite someone to live in it instead of giving them your bricks while you are building yours. Because one day you will turn around and see where you have planned to build your house. It will be empty. Then you are the one looking for bricks.”
Steve understood what the homeless guy meant and thanked him for the good advice.
In my opinion, helping others is not a bad thing at all. But sometimes, while we are helping others, we forget our own problems and needs. One must remember that sometimes sharing is better than giving away. You can do a lot more by being in a strong position instead of bringing yourself into a weaker situation.

A.he ever helped others but didn't get anything when he was in trouble
B.what some people did harmed him and his family
C.he was robbed of many things in the past
D.many people asked him for different kinds of things
( )29 The word It in the sentence “It will be empty.” refers to ________ .
A.your house that you plan to build
B.the bricks that you use to build your house

Ⅴ 任务型阅读(共5小题,计10分)
In our lives, we sometimes say or do something that may hurt others. Then we need to apologize(道歉). Making an apology helps to improve an injured friendship.
We are already familiar with some expressions for apologizing such as “Excuse me” or “I'm sorry”. There are also other ways to apologize, such as “Pardon” and “I apologize”. When you have missed your friend's party, you might say “I was really busy that day and just couldn't make it. I sincerely(真诚地) apologize.” When you get angry with someone and realize you are wrong, you may say “I am sorry. I apologize for my poor attitude.”
When a person apologizes to you, it is necessary to reply politely, “It's all right,” or “Never mind.” If the situation is more serious and the person is really sincere, you might say, “I understand how you feel,” or “We all make mistakes.”
Sometimes people apologize not for having done something wrong, but for the inconvenience(不便) they have caused. On the building under repair you may see signs reading “We are rebuilding our store to serve you better. Please pardon our dust.” In the supermarket you may hear a sales person say “I'm sorry it has been sold out today. Would you please come tomorrow?”
People sometimes are embarrassed to make an apology, because they do not want to lose face. Yet there are ways to make an “indirect apology”. Making an apology on the phone is not a direct or very personal way of apologizing, but it is sometimes the best choice. If one is not so familiar with the other and they might feel there is a chance of unpleasantness, some “distance” is often safer and understandable.
Learning how to apologize is important in our life. We don't lose face when we apologize. Instead, we'd lose face if we never say sorry for our mistakes.
