Years ag it was ppular t speak f a generatin gap, a disagreement between yung peple and their elders. Parents said that children did nt shw them prper respect and bedience (服从), while children cmplained that their parents did nt understand them at all. What had gne wrng? Why had the generatin gap suddenly appeared? Actually, the generatin gap has been arund fr a lng time. Many peple argue that a gap is built int the fabric (结构)f ur sciety.
One imprtant cause f the generatin gap is the chance that yung peple have t chse their wn ways f life. In mre traditinal scieties, when children grw up, they are expected t live in the same area as their parents, t marry peple that their parents knw and agree t, and t cntinue the family ccupatin. In ur sciety, yung peple ften travel great distances fr their educatin, mve ut f the family hme at an early age, marry r live with peple whm their parents have never met, and chse ccupatins different frm thse f their parents.
In ur easily changing sciety, parents ften expect their children t d better than they did: t find better jbs, t make mre mney, and t d all the things that they were unable t d. Often, hwever, the strng wish that parents have fr their children is anther cause f the disagreement between them. Often, they discver that they have very little in cmmn with each ther.
Finally, the speed at which changes take place in ur sciety is anther cause f the gap between the generatins. In a traditinal culture, elderly peple are valued fr their wisdm, but in ur sciety the knwledge f a lifetime may becme ut f date vernight. The yung and the ld seem t live in tw very different wrlds, separated by different skills and abilities. N dubt, the generatin gap will cntinue t be a feature f American life fr sme time t cme. Its causes are rted in the freedm and changes f ur sciety, and in the rapid speed at which sciety changes.
    28. What is the text mainly abut?
    A. The cncept f generatin gap.
    B. The reasns fr generatin gap
    C. Ways t reduce generatin gap.
    D. Attitudes twards generatin gap.

    B. live with their parents in the same area
    C. ask their parents fr the best advice
    D. have very little in cmmn with their parents
    30. What can we infer frm paragraph 3?
    A. Parents shuld be strict with their children.
    B. The generatin gap is partly caused by the lder generatin.
    C. Parents culdn't d things well themselves.
    D. The yung never want t satisfy their parents.
    31. Which f the fllwing als causes the generatin gap?
    A. Parents are nt strict enugh with their children.
    B. The yung value the ld t much tr their wisdm.
    C. Yung peple dn't have the knwledge f a lifetime.
    D. The sciety develps t fast.
    D
The effects f nise can reach rganisms(生物体)withut ears. Because f the way living things rely n each ther, nise pllutin may actually stp sme frests frm grwing, a new study suggests. In a New Mexic wdland f pine trees, researchers fund far fewer tree seedlings(小苗)in nisy sites than they did in quiet nes.
The study area is dtted with gas wells, sme f which are quiet and sme f which have cmpressrs (压缩机) that create a cnstant nise. This allwed Jennifer Phillips, a behaviral eclgist at Texas A&M University-San Antni and her clleagues t cmpare sites that were similar except, fr nise level. In areas that had been nisy fr at least 15 years, the researchers fund nly abut 13 pine seedlings, cmpared with 55 pine seedlings per hectare (公顷) in quiet areas.
The differences in plant grwth were prbably caused by changes in animal behavir, said Philips. Fr example, nise might drive away certain pllinatrs(传粉昆虫)such as bees, bats and mths. In the case f pine trees, the prblem was likely a lack f animals t disperse seeds. Pines depend n birds t carry their seeds away frm the parent tree, and birds are knwn t avid nise. The differences between the sites aren’t yet bvius t smene walking thrugh them, said Sarah Termndt, a btanist(植物学家) with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wh helped cnduct the study. That’s prbably because pines are slw-grwing, with mst f the mature trees in such wdlands being ver a century ld.
The study raises questins abut the future f the area. "If the nise stays there lng term, are we ging t lse this imprtant ecsystem f the pine which supprts s much wildlife?" said Phillips. The study was published tday in the jurnal Prceedings f the Ryal Sciety.
    32. What des the new study fcus n?
    A. The influence f nise pllutin n plants.
    B. The way the rganisms receive nise.
    C. The harm f nise pllutin t insects.
    D. The effects f nise pllutin n humans.
    33. What can be learned frm paragraph 2 and 3?
    A. Gas wells dtted in the area prvide favrable cnditins fr the study.
    B. The study sites are different in many ways including their nise level.
    C. It is difficult fr plants t live withut nise and animals.
    D. Peple can easily find the difference between the nisy and the quiet sites.
    34. What des the underlined wrd "mature" in paragraph 3 mean?
    A. Seedling.
    B. Thin.
    C. Grwn-up.
    D. Tall.
    35. What des Phillips mean by saying the wrds in the last paragraph?
    A. Nise pllutin is bviusly a truble that can be avided.
    B. Nise pllutin culd be a threat with the pwer t change ecsystems.
    C. The pine frest is imprtant because it supprts s much wildlife.
    D. Wildlife shuld be well prtected fr the future f this area.
