Clemens Schaber is a zlgist(动物学家) at the University f Kiel in Germany. His new finding, published n June 11 in Frntiers in Mechanical Engineering, was part f his research n hw spiders mve. “Stickiness is an imprtant part f that, ” he says.
Spiders dn't have a sticky liquid n their feet. Instead, they use “dry” stickiness. Animals that use dry stickiness can stick and unstick t surfaces easily. Scientists have lng studied the hairs n a spider's feet t understand hw they d it. At the end f a spider's legs, rugh fibers divide int smaller hairs. At the ends f these hairs are small, flat structures that lk like spatulas(抹刀). When the hairs tuch smething, they frm bnds with atms at the surface and stick.
