My last lecture ended at 2.30 in the afternn. Sme f the students apprached me begging t let them leave 15 minutes early as they had a bus t catch. My permissin resulted in a stir and restlessness as half f the class std up t leave. They all had buses t catch! Unable t distinguish between the genuine nes and thse faking it, I put a ban n anybdy leaving befre time.
One evening, I sptted three bys frm my last class at the bus stp. I called ut, ‘Yu cnstantly blame me fr nt allwing yu t leave early because yu have a bus t catch and here yu are still hanging arund at 5 pm !' One f the bys replied respectfully and humbly, “Madam, the bus leaves at 2:30.If we leave the class at 2:15, we are able t make it. In case we miss it, the next bus t ur village cmes after three hurs. Nw we are waiting fr it. At this hur, the bus will be verladed and we will nt even get a seat.”
I was full f remrse (懊悔). The next day, I asked all the students wh had a bus t catch t write an applicatin, get it signed and leave whenever they wanted, withut seeking my permissin. It was a methd favured by the inventr Thmas Edisn and the artist Salvadr Dali. Waking frm a nap exactly at the pint befre deep sleep in an effrt t inspire creativity.
Edisn held a metal ball in his hand s that if he ndded ff he wuld drp it and the sund wuld wake him. Fr Dali, it was a key landing n a plate. Nw scientists have fund that they might have been nt smething.
Researchers at the Paris Brain Institute studied peple's ability t find a hidden rule in a maths puzzle. Identifying the trick wuld make slving the prblem far simpler but t d s required thinking creatively. The scientists fund that participants wh had been wken just befre falling int a deep sleep, using a technique like that used by Edisn and Dali, were mre likely t find the shrtcut.
This “twilight zne" is knwn as nn-rapid eye mvement sleep stage 1, r N1.Scientists described it like an exaggerated frm f mind-wandering, where dream-like thughts fill the mind. It is thught that as peple start t disengage (脱离) frm their envirnment they can "freely watch their minds wander, while maintaining their ability t identify creative sparks (火花)”.
Fr the study 103 peple were given a maths prblem t slve. T reach the final answer they had t apply the rules step by step but, unknwn t them, a “hidden rule" wuld allw them t bypass mst f the steps and get t the slutin much mre quickly. The results shwed that 83 percent f thse in the N1 grup had fund the shrtcut, cmpared with 31 percent in the grup wh were awake and 14 percent f thse in a deep sleep.
Researchers cnclude that the brain activity cmmn t the twilight zne between sleep and wakefulness set ff creative sparks. "Althugh the neural mechanisms(神经机制)invlved are nt yet knwn, ur findings suggest that there is a creative sweet spt within the twilight zne,” said Dr Thmas Andrilln, c-authr f the study.

Female birds sing, t, but scientists tend t tune in t male birdsng and ignre female sngs. It highlights a lng-standing bias (偏见) and helps us think abut why that bias persists(持续).
Since the beginning f mdern birdsng research, the field has fcused n male sngbirds. Any serius birder culd tell yu that females d sing, smetimes as frequently as males. Fr example, understanding that female birds d sing matters nt nly t scientists but als t the billins f peple wh hear the sunds f wild birds every day. In many species, males and females lk similar frm a distance, but can be distinguished by ear. Paying clse attentin t which sunds each sex makes and thinking abut why they might be prducing them pens up a richer windw int the envirnment arund us. It turns ut female birds use sngs fr all the same reasns male birds d: t signal individual identity, defend valuable territries and attract ptential mates.
Public awareness f female birdsng has the ptential t change the science itself. Apps like eBird cllect millins f public bservatins and audi recrdings f birds every year. Increasing public engagement and invlvement with research prmises t benefit the scientific cmmunity and sciety mre bradly. In many cases, scientists and experts already have strngly held biases abut the way the wrld wrks, and these biases allw mistaken cnclusins t persist. Public bservers ften make better bservers f the wrld arund them because they lack precnceived ideas.
Female birds sing! We welcme a future where research and cmmunicatin cmbine t imprve ur understanding f the wrld arund us and deepen ur cnnectins t each ther and the natural wrld.
32.What des the secnd paragraph mainly talk abut?

B. Why female birdsng is lng ignred by scientists.
C. What cntributes t diverse participatin in science.
D. Hw men have cnducted mdern birdsng research.
33. Why is it imprtant fr us t be aware f female birdsng?
A. It will enable us t becme real scientists.
B. It will help us distinguish bird species by ear.
C. It will expand ur understanding f the wrld.
D. It will make advanced science accessible fr all.
34.What des the underlined wrd “precnceived” mean in Paragraph 5?
A.Biased.B.Creative.C.Mistaken.D.Varied.
