    Beware of Phone/Online Scams(诈骗)
Have you been the victim of a phone/online seam? If you ever think that there’s really no reason to worry, just remember the following statistics.
—315,000 cases broken in 2015-2017 in China.
—More than billions of money involved.
—Victims of 19 years old top the list in terms of age.
—Victims of 18-25 years old account for 52.4% of the whole.
    —……
And here in below we are sharing 4 typical types of Phone/Online scams and how to deal with them.
    1
Hello, this is police station, you’re involved in a case of money laundering(洗钱)(or some other financial crime). We need your cooperation with the investigation……
Please transfer your money into the national security account.
Tip 1: If you are really involved in financial crime, police will visit your home at the first opportunity and take you for investigation. Police are not so dumb as to inform you via telephone. And there is no such thing as national security account.
Hey: Wang(he may know your name). Drop by my office tomorrow morning. BTW, I will be treating some IP clients soon. I need you to transfer some money into this account. It will refund your money tomorrow.
Tip 2: Think about it. How could any boss in the world ask you for money? Meeting VIP clients without a cent in his pocket? And why doesn't he ask you to give the money to him in person? He is nobody but a seam!
    2
    3
You've got a package which contains illegal drugs or goods. You are now requested to call this number to contact the Public Security Bureau. (Then it all follows scenario预设).
    Tip 3:
Public Security Bureau WILL NOT deal with cases vie phone calls. NEITHER WILL they send out notification via message.
(In some cases the number is disguised as authentic bank number through software). We are sorry to inform you that you have a bank overdraft. Please contact this customer service representative. His number is XXXXXXXXXX.
    Tip 4:
DO NOT panic. REMEMBER to dial the official contact number of the back to double check.
    4
When receiving phone calls/emails from unidentified resources, please pay special attention if the conversation involves any of the following:
    ●bank cards
    ●lucky draw
●Transferred to government authorities, including but not limited to police, court/judge, etc.
    ●secured account
    ●refund related to online shopping
None of the above business will be carried out on phones or via emails/unofficial website links. So you may just treat them as spams.
    Moreover, how to safeguard yourself?
●Never transfer money without face-to-face confirmation.
●Only do business online with those you know and trust or on the official website of the online retailer.
●Protect your personal information, including photo-ID numbers and copies, bank account and passwords.
●Don't trust website links in emails or text messages without verified sources.

Chances are you have a cellphone within inches of you. Cellphones use radiofrequency (RF) radiation to send signals. Radiofrequency energy is a form of electromagnetic radiation, which can be either ionizing (离子化的) or non-ionizing. Ionizing radiation includes X-rays, which have been proven to be harmful, but the evidence is still iffy about non-ionizing rays.
CNN’s Dr Sanjay Gupta, a neurosurgeon, has long been outspoken in his use of a headset for his cellphone. “Non-ionizing radiation won’t damage DNA.It’s more like very low power microwaves,” he says. “In the short term, they are likely harmless. But in the long term, it could be a different story. Anyway, who likes the idea of a microwave, even a low-powered one, next to their head all day?”
Earlier this year, researchers at the US National Toxicology Program (NTP) exposed rats to RF for about nine hours a day, seven days a week. The study found that the rats were more likely to develop brain and heart cancers. In contrast, the control rats were not exposed to RF, and none of them developed any cancers.
It should be noted that the levels of radiation that the rats were exposed to were much higher than the limits set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). “The levels and time of exposure to radiofrequency radiation were much greater than what people experience with even the highest level of cellphone use,” the NTP said.
Researchers at Drexel University may be on to something. The team has created a nanomaterial (纳米材料) made out of a thin layer of MXenes, which will protect a device from electromagnetic pollution. “We believe MXenes are going to be the next generation of protective materials for portable, flexible and wearable electronics,” said lead author Yury Gogotsi, Ph. D.
Researchers wonder if the next step can be protecting humans in the same way, but that will require more research. In the meantime, if you’re concerned about radiation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that you use a speakerphone or wired headset as much as possible.
24.What does the underlined word “iffy” in Paragraph 1 most probably mean?
    A.Considerable. B.Informal. C.Clear. D.Uncertain.
25.According to the text, Dr Sanjay Gupta believes that _________.
A.ionizing radiation is harmless B.a headset is a must for smartphone users
C.microwaves belong to ionizing radiation D.constant exposure to radiation is harmful
26.What can we learn from Paragraph 4?
A.The research result may not apply to humans.
B.Rats can stand higher levels of radiation than humans.
C.The radiation from phones people use can be ignored.
D.FCC should adjust the limit on ionizing radiation exposure.
27.What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?
    A.A potential solution to radiation.
    B.A prediction of future electronics.
C.The role of MXenes in removing radiation.
    D.The concern over electromagnetic radiation.

    C
If you’re tired and find yourself with that rare spare chunk of time, should you be using it to swing kettlebells or get more sleep? It’s a question most people have faced. Who isn’t a little sleep-deprived (被剥夺的) Who doesn’t need more exercise? Who has time for both?
The answer is a bit complicated. Obviously, both sleep and exercise are vital, and ideally, adults should make time for both. Getting the recommended seven hours a night is important for metabolic (新陈代谢的) function, weight regulation and brain health. Inadequate amount or quality of sleep is associated with both short-and long-term poor health measures, increasing the risk for heart disease, memory problems, etc. Consistent physical exercise yields similar benefits and, just like not getting enough sleep, failing to exercise can have serious health consequences. Exercise can improve deep sleep, and sleeping better enhanced the ability to exercise the next day.
Because both are so critical for health, medical experts hesitate to say one is more important than the other. However, there is a key differentiator (区分点) between the two: “We have a biological need to sleep — it’s a behavior we must do every day,” says Christopher. “Physical activity, on the other hand, is definitely beneficial for health, but being less active for a few days here and there doesn’t have the same negative health impact as having stall sleep for days.” In other words, skipping workouts, while not ideal, won’t stop you from operating, whereas being sleep deprived definitely will. Too little sleep or poor-quality sleep can impact mood, ad increase anxiety and depression symptoms.
In order to stay somewhat active without sacrificing sleep, the trick may be to look for non-traditional ways to get physical activity. Washing dishes, making beds, keeping the kid in their baby carriage and going for a quick jog—it all counts, and none of it requires skipping sleep.
28.What’s the first paragraph mainly about?
A.Tips on how to balance exercise and sleep.
B.A common problem that occurs in daily life.
C.The relationship between sleep and workout
D.The ways to get more sleep instead of exercise.
29.According to the passage, what risk may adults face if they lack enough sleep?
    A.Hair loss. B.Lung cancer. C.Total blindness. D.Heart failure.
30.What can be inferred from paragraph 3?
A.Workouts mater more than enough sleep.
B.More physical activities ban lead to health problems
C.Sleeping too little for long can surely cause consequences.
D.Being less active for long has more negative impact than lack of sleep.
31.Which of the following seems to be favored by the author?
    A.Working out by doing housework.
B.Giving up sleep to go for a quick jog.
    C.Getting enough exercise before sleeping.
D.Leaving the baby alone in their baby carriage.

When romantic partners argue over things like finances, jealousy, or other interpersonal issues, they tend to employ their current feelings as fuel for a heated argument. But thinking about the future helps overcome relationship conflicts, according to a University of Waterloo study just published online in Social Psychological and Personality Science. Alex Huynh. a doctoral candidate in psychology is the lead author of the study, which he published with Igor Grossmann from the University of Waterloo, and Daniel Yang from Yale University.
Previous research has shown that third-perspective reasoning can be a positive strategy for reconciliation(调解)of interpersonal struggles. Huynh and his collaborators investigated whether similar benefit can be induced by simply thinking about the future. Study participants were instructed to reflect on a recent conflict with a romantic partner or a close friend. One group of participants were then asked to describe how they would feel about the conflict one year in the future, while another group was asked to describe how they feel in the present.
The team examined participants' written responses through a text-analysis program for their use of pronouns—such as I, me, she, he. These choices of pronouns were used to capture participants' focus on the feelings and behaviour of those involved in the conflict. Written responses were also examined for forgiveness and reinterpreting the conflict more positively, both of which implied the participants' use of reasoning strategies.

These choices of pronouns were used to capture participants' focus on the feelings and behaviour of those involved in the conflict. The researchers found that envisioning(展望)future relationship affected both participants' focus on their feelings and their reasoning strategies. As a result, participants reported more positive about their relationship altogether, especially when study participants extended their thinking about the relationship a year into the future.
“Our study demonstrates that adopting a future-oriented perspective in the context of a relationship conflict-reflecting on how one might feel a year from now—may be a valuable coping tool for one's psychological happiness and relationship well-being,” said Huynh.
32.What do romantic partners do in face of most disagreements?
A.They lose faith in their future. B.They look forward to a fierce conflict.
C.They focus on their present feelings. D.They care more about financial problems.
33.What does the underlined word “induced” in paragraph 2 most probably mean?
    A.Explained. B.Caused. C.Reduced. D.Improved.
34.What do we know about the study?
A.The reasoning strategies in participants' written responses were well worthy of note.
B.Study participants described their recent relationship with their romance partners or friends.
C.A text-analysis program was employed to examine participants' use of negative words.
D.All the study participants described how they felt both in the present and in the future.
35.What can be the best title of the text?
A.You Have a Year to Solve Your Interpersonal Problems!
B.Beneficial Reasoning Is a positive Strategy for Reconciliation!
C.Your Current Feelings Are the Real Cause of Your Heated Arguments!
D.Thinking About Future Is Essential for Relationship Maintenance!

    第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
    阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Why do women always feel cold?
The “correct” temperature to be set often forms the basis of office arguments between women and men. Between the sexes, there are always more similarities than differences. ____36____ Is there any science backing up the widespread belief that women “feel the cold” more than men?
Biological differences between men and women
At around the same body weight, women tend to have less muscle to generate heat. ____37____ Thus, the skin feels colder, as it’s slightly further away from blood vessels (血管).
Women also tend to have a lower metabolic rate than men, which reduces heat production capacity during cold exposure, making women more likely to feel cold as the temperature drops.
    Hormonal differences
The hormones oestrogen(雌激素)and progesterone(黄体素)are found in large quantities in women. ____38____ Oestrogen enlarges blood vessels at the extremities, meaning more heat can be lost to the surrounding air. And progesterone can cause the vessels in the skin to tighten, meaning less blood will flow to keep the internal organs warmer, leaving women feeling cooler.
    Is it just humans?
____39____ Studies on many species of birds and mammals report that males commonly gather in cooler areas where there is shade, while females and offspring stay in warmer environments where there is sunlight, as the young are unable to regulate their own body temperature during some stages. Therefore, the difference between heat-sensing mechanisms may provide an evolutionary advantage.
So how do we agree on the ideal temperature?
In the workplace, personal comfort systems are thermal systems that heat or cool and can be locally positioned in individual work stations such as desktops, chairs, or near the feet and legs. ____40____ These systems provide individualized thermal comfort to meet personal needs without affecting others in the same space.
A.The skin is the first line of defence.
B.They contribute to the core body and skin temperatures.
C.Animals have the same system to regulate body temperature.
D.They also have more fat between the skin and the muscles.
E.The preference for warmer temperatures isn’t unique to humans.
F.Examples include desk fans, heated chairs or foot warmers.
G.Researches show women prefer a higher temperature to men, however.

One particularly cold Saturday in January, I was supposed to take our dog out for a walk, but it was so cold that I didn’t want to go outside. Instead, I just opened the door and let the dog out by himself. I kept an eye on him to make sure he would come back inside.
However, another neighborhood dog quickly ran past our house, and our dog sped after to catch him. I hurriedly went to grab my coat so I could follow my dog, and then I rushed outside. Unfortunately, I was already too late, and my dog was nowhere in sight. I walked a few blocks, but I was unable to find him.
Depressed, I returned home. My mother was standing at the door waiting, and she asked me what had happened. “I know I was supposed to walk our dog,” I admitted, “but I thought he would be able to go outside and come back by himself. Now he’s gone and I can’t find him anywhere.”
My mother was very angry with me; she said I should have been more responsible. She decided to help by making some signs. The signs read, “Lost: A big black dog. Please call us right away” and she printed our phone number on the bottom. “Okay, Darrell,” she said, as she handed over those signs, “now go post these on all the street posts.”
My sister and I grabbed the signs and we posted them along our street as well as along the surrounding streets. The whole time, I was incredibly sad and worried about our dog. All I could think about was how cold it was and how cold our dog must be. My sister wanted to go home, so I told her I’d walk her home, but then keep looking for the dog myself.

    Dear Tom ,
I’m writing to tell you that the Internet news has both advantages and disadvantages.
With the help of the Internet, we can use our mobile phones or other devices to get
dozens of contents in a short time. In addition,by reading the Internet news, we can
reduce the use of paper, which is beneficial to the environment. However, the Internet
news is also flooded with false information, which misleads people easily. With all of the
information, the critical-thinking skill is necessary so that you are not tricked.
Looking forward to your early reply.
    Yours ,
    Li Hua
    读后续写(15分)
I took my sister home and continued my search alone. Carrying the signs made by my mother, I kept posting them. In the meantime, whenever there were people passing by, I would ask if they had met such a dog. I even knocked from door to door, asking if they had seen it. No luck. Nobody claimed to have spotted our dog. What if I had taken the dog out for a walk? Tears of regret welled up in my eyes. As the darkness fell, I decided to come back home to check if anybody had called.
When I returned, my mother was waiting for me, smiling broadly. There, behind my mother, was our lovely dog looking up at me eagerly. Upon seeing me, it raced towards me. I couldn’t hold my tears. “It just came back by itself,” my mother said gently. Hugging the dog with relief, I apologized to my mother sincerely. “I am sure you have learned your lesson today,” my mother replied in a comforting voice. I played with my sister and the dog again. Despite the freezing weather outside, my heart warmed up. It was on the day that I learned the value of responsibility.
