    Cameron is no ordinary dog, and not just because he was born on Valentine's Day. To
    Maggie, a first-grader at Burgundy Farm Country Day School, the dog who spends most days on campus is more like a friend. When Cameron is near, Maggie feels “really, really,
    happy,”she said.“I feel safe around him,”she added. “He'll lie down and ask me to
    scratch his tummy,”she explained, because Cameron likes Maggie.
    Cameron is one of a handful of dogs at Burgundy, a K8 private day school in Alexandria, Virginia. Dogs started showing up there when the head of school, Jeff Sindler, brought his clumsy Labrador, Luke, to the main office building where Sindler works. After
    Luke died, Sindler adopted Cameron and brought him to campus, too, where the dog Maggie
    described as “really cute” became a school favorite.
    “They don't care if you are good at basketball or a great reader, or popular,”Sindler said. “They just want to be loved—equal opportunity,” he added. “Cameron and the
    other dogs on campus—are always fastened with a rope and with their owner—go a long way toward improving students' social and emotional well-being,” he said. They reduce
    tension and ease anxiety, and inspire happy feelings from students.
    “They bring out some important emotions,” he said, “and are especially helpful to children and adults who struggle in social communication.” Children often came from
    challenging backgrounds: many lived in poverty, or had to travel through dangerous
    neighborhoods to get to school, or shared a too-crowded home. When these emotionally needy children met the dogs, they relaxed and were more prepared to learn.
    Just as important, dogs on school grounds set a positive, welcoming tone. They help
    preserve the school climate that is accepting, supportive and curious. “Dogs are one way to
    hold on to that,” Sindler said, adding that“ schools should be fun and exciting, and dogs can be a big part of that.”
    For Sindler, including Cameron was all part of an effort to create a safe environment
    where learning could flourish.

    Following a successful first season in 2021, the newest season of talk show The Answer of Time kicked off on October 16. Season two aims to tell the story of six Chinese dream chasers from various fields ranging from the aerospace industry to deep-sea diving.
    At the China Astronaut Research and Training Center in Beijing, Chinese astronaut Nie
    Haisheng, who traveled to space in 2005, 2013 and 2021, recalled in front of the camera his unusual experiences on the job.
    On the most recent episode released on Saturday on Dragon TV, the program invited Nie
    to introduce his life as an astronaut. Viewers were able to see not only the everyday life of
    astronauts on China’s space station, but also the breathtaking photos Nie took on the space station while overlooking our blue planet below.
    “That bright spot there is Beijing. We could also see the bright and white Himalayas, as
    well as Chongming Island in Shanghai,” Nie said during the show while pointing out places on a photo.
    “My favorite activity was looking for my hometown in Hubei Province, which is along a
    big corner of the Yangtze River.”
    From staples to the side courses, the astronaut also introduced the daily food they ate, such as traditional fusion desserts like cheese Osmanthus cakes.
    During the show, host Chen Chen explores the stories behind the lives of all the guests
    during interviews, giving them the opportunity to share the challenges and successes they have experienced in their lives.
    “The last time I went to my hometown was after the astronaut selection for the Shenzhou
    No.12 mission around the 10th anniversary of my mother’s death. When she was alive, she didn’t talk much, but always told me to be someone who could serve the country,” Nie recalled during the interview.

    It is a question people have been asking for ages—is there a way to turn back the aging process?
    For centuries, people have been looking for a “fountain of youth”. The idea is that if
    you find a magical fountain, and drink from its waters, you will not become old. Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León searched for waters with magical powers in the early 1500s. But what he found instead is the American State of Florida.
    Researchers in New York did not find a fountain of youth in fact, but they may have found a way to turn back the aging process. It appears the answer may be hidden right
    between your eyes, in an area called the hypothalamus (丘脑下部).The hypothalamus is part
    of your brain. It controls important activities within the body, including growth, reproduction and the way we process food.
    Researchers at New York's Albert Einstein College of Medicine found that
    hypothalamus stem cells also influence how fast aging takes place in the body. What are stem cells? They are simple cells that can develop into specialized cells, like blood or skin cells. Stem cells can also repair damaged parts in the body.
    Professor Dongsheng Cai was the lead researcher in a study on aging in mice. Cai
    explains in the Journal Nature what they found. “Aging speed can be controlled by a
    particular place in the body, which is the hypothalamus. And it can be controlled by a
    particular type of cells, which are hypothalamus stem cells. I think these findings are quite interesting.”
    He adds that when the hypothalamus starts aging, so does the body. “So when
    hypothalamus' function is decreasing, particularly the loss of hypothalamus stem cells, this protection against the aging development is lost. It finally leads to aging.”
    Using this information, the researchers began trying to activate ( 激 活 ) the
    hypothalamus in mice. They did this by putting stem cells from younger mice into middle-aged animals. Later, the researchers examined mice and tested for changes in behavior. They also looked for changes in the strength of the animals' muscles and the way they worked. The researchers say the results show that the treatment slowed aging in the animals.
    Cai says when hypothalamus stem cells, which were_derived_from young mice was put
    into middle-aged mice, the mice aged slowly and they also have increased the length of their lives.
    But these results were just from studying mice in a lab. If the mice can live longer, does
    that mean people could have longer lives? The next step is to see if the anti-aging effects also work in human beings.
