C 18. A 19. C 20. B
W: This is Suzie Chu on Three Triple Campus Radio. I have the results of the entertainment survey we did last week with the students here at the university. We went into the Students’ Union last Thursday, the twenty-fifth of March and interviewed a total of 150 students. 70% of the students we talked to said that they liked going out with friends more than anything else. I had expected them to say doing sports or listening to music or something like that. Next on the list... and I wasn’t surprised at all by this... was watching TV. Most students spent 15 hours a week doing that. Going to the cinema was pretty popular too and so was watching sports, but something that surprised me was that some students considered shopping to be entertainment. So what don’t students like doing? Well, although quite a lot of them like acting and even belong to the drama club, surprisingly enough going to the theater was not very popular at all. In fact, it came bottom of the list! Why? It could be because a lot of students really do have financial problems. Most students spent between £12 and £35 a week on entertainment and this represents about a quarter of their total budget.

I recently posted a picture on Facebook from the movie Mad Max, a film where two groups race through the desert in steam punk vehicles, and wrote, “Actual picture of my way to work today.” It was meant to be a joke because of the sandstorms in Beijing, but one of my friends from back home thought it was real.
I couldn’t imagine how they could think that is actually what China is like. China has so many more conveniences and advantages than the West, and many of my friends agree. “I don’t know how I will be able to deal when I go back home,” said a friend who is about to end her gap year in Beijing. “I’ve become so spoiled in China.
China seems to be leading the way in innovation and convenience for daily life. Back home I could never shop, pull out my phone and scan a QR code to pay.
There have been rumors of starting bike sharing in my hometown for years with little success while bike sharing suddenly appeared in Beijing overnight. I just step outside and scan a code, and I am on my way.
Going out to eat with a group of friends back home was troublesome for both the group and the servers. Splitting checks and swiping(刷) 10 different cards or making change for each person in the group can be a pain. But with China’s WeChat, you can quickly send your friends your part of the bill.
The list goes on…
When I first arrived in Beijing, I was dead set on leaving in a month. That month has come and gone. Now, when someone asks me when I’m coming back, I think to myself, “Who knows?”
While my friends think I’m riding through the desert on a motorbike, I am actually taking a “Didi” for what is the equivalent of $5 in the US.
With all the conveniences and technology here, I may never want to go back.
24. What’s the function of Paragraph 1?
A. To introduce a movie. B. To tell an interesting story.
C. To introduce the topic. D. To show the weather in Beijing.
25. How did the author feel when he first came to Beijing?
A. He couldn’t stand the weather. B. He didn’t want to stay long.
C. He never wanted to go back home. D. He was amazed at the bike sharing.

A. China is the first country to start bike sharing.
B. The author has become used to mobile payment in China.
C. People always use WeChat to pay when eating out in the US.
D. The author’s friends all know the convenience of living in China.
27. What does the text intend to tell us?
A. Bike sharing has spread all over China.

C
Some years ago, I was hired by an American bank. I received a letter from the head of the Personnel Department that started, “Dear John, I am quite pleased that you have decided to join us.” That “quite” saddened me. I thought he was saying “we’re kind of pleased you decided to join us although I wish we had hired someone else.” Then I discovered that in American English “quite” sometimes means “very”, while in British English it means “fairly”.
So the first lesson about working in other countries is to learn the language and by that I don’t just mean the words people speak. It is body language, dress, manners, ideas and so on. The way people do things highlights many of the differences we see between cultures.
Some of the differences may be only on the surface——dress, food and hours of work——while others may be deeper and take longer to deal with. Mostly, it is just a question of getting used to the differences and accepting them, like the climate, while getting on with business.
Some of the differences may be an improvement. People are more polite; the service is better; you ask for something to be done and it happens without having to ask again. However, other differences can be troubling, like punctuality. If you invite people to a party at 7 o'clock your quests will consider it polite to turn up exactly on time in Germany, five minutes early in the American Midwest, an hour early in Japan, 15 minutes afterwards in the UK, up to an hour afterwards in Italy and some time in the evening in Greece. I prefer not to use the word “late” because there is nothing wrong with the times people arrive. It is simply the accepted thing to do in their own country.
28. The author was unhappy as mentioned in paragraph 1 because he thought ________
A. The American bank didn’t think much of him.
B. The American bank might hire another person.
C. It’s difficult to get used to American culture.
D. It’s easy to understand Americans.
29. The word “highlight” in paragraph 2 probably means
A. encourages B. helps to narrow
C. increase D. stress
30. According to the author, what should we do with most cultural differences?
A. Ask the native people for help. B. Understand and accept them.
C. Do things in our own ways. D. Do in-depth research.
31. When invited to a party the people who are usually punctual are ________ .
A. Italians B. Germans
C. Greeks D. the British
A 29. D 30. B 31. B
根据第一段“I thought he was saying “we’re kind of pleased you decided to join us although I wish we had hired someone else.””(我想他是在说“我们很高兴你决定加入我们,尽管我希望我们已经雇用了其他人。”) 故选A项。
根据第二段“So the first lesson about working in other countries is to learn the language and by that I don’t just mean the words people speak. It is body language, dress, manners, ideas and so on. The way people do things highlights many of the differences we see between cultures.”(所以,在其他国家工作的第一课就是学习语言,我指的不仅仅是人们说的话。
根据第三段“Mostly, it is just a question of getting used to the differences and accepting them, like the climate, while getting on with business.”(大多数情况下,这只是一个适应差异并接受它们的问题,就像在外出差适应当地气候一样。)
根据第四段“If you invite people to a party at 7 o'clock your quests will consider it polite to turn up exactly on time in Germany”(如果你邀请人们参加七点的聚会,在德国,你的客人会认为准时露面是有礼貌的)可知,当被邀请参加聚会时,德国人通常是准时的。故选B项。
D
Which are you more likely to have with you at any given moment — your cell phone or your wallet? Soon you may be able to throw your wallet away and pay for things with a quick wave of your smart phone over an electronic scanner.
In January, Starbucks announced that customers could start using their phones to buy coffee in 6,800 of its states. This is the first pay-by-phone practice in the U.S., but we’re likely to see more wireless payment alternatives as something called near field communication (NFC) gets into America’s consumer electronics. Last December some new smart phones which contain an NFC chip were introduced to the public.
Already in use in parts of Asia and Europe, NFC allows shoppers to wave their phones a few inches above a payment terminal — a contact-free system built for speed and convenience. But before NFC becomes widely adopted in the U.S., a few problems need to be worked out, like who will get to collect the profitable transaction (交易) fees. Although some credit card providers have been experimenting with wave-and-pay systems that use NFC-enabled credit cards, cell phone service providers may try to muscle their way into the point-of-sale (POS) market. Three big cell phone service providers have formed a joint companies that will go into operation over the next 15 months. Its goal is “to lead the U.S. payments industry from cards to mobile phones.”
The other big NFC issue, apart from how payments will be processed, is security. For instance, what’s to stop a thief from digitally pick-pocketing you? “We’re still not at the point where an attacker can just brush against you in a crowd and steal all the money out of your phone,” says Jimmy Shah, a mobile-security researcher. “Users may also be able to set transaction limits, perhaps requiring a password to be entered for larger purchases.
Still uneasy about this digital-wallet business? Keep in mind that if you lose your smart phone, it can be located on a map and remotely disabled. Plus, your phone can be password protected, your wallet isn’t.
32. What is predicted to happen in the U.S.?
A. The expansion of cell phone companies.
B. The boom of pay-by-phone business.
C. The disappearance of credit cards.
D. The increase of Starbucks sales.
33. The NFC technology can be used to ________.
A. ensure the safety of shoppers
B. collect transaction fees easily
C. make purchase faster and simpler
D. improve the quality of cell phones
34. Three cell phone service providers form a joint venture to__________.
A. strengthen their relationship
B. get a share in the payments industry
C. sell more cell phones
D. test the NFC technology
35. According to the passage, what can users do if they lose their smart phones?
A. Stop the functioning of their phones.
B. Set up a password.
C. Get all the money out of their phones.
D. Cancel large purchases.
B 33. C 34. B 35. A

分析句子可知,句子为结果状语从句,句中涉及固定句型“such a/an+adj.+n.+that…”,意为“如此……以至于……”,故句中应用“such”,“so”后接形容词或副词,不符合语境。故将so改为such。
故将what改为which。
