When I was a teenager, I knew nothing about mental health and I didn’t care about mental health. Why would I? Like my dad always used to say, “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it!”
But, unfortunately my mental health did “break”. Aged 17 I developed anorexia(神经厌食症). I didn’t realise at the time. When I was 23, I was found severely clinically anorexic. I had fast-tracked treatment at The Maudsley Hospital and went through 2.5 years of treatment. People are always interested to know what helped me recover. Actually, it was simple: comedy.
I’m a professional talk show actor. Comedy, for me, began as a hobby and has unbelievably progressed into a job. One of the things that initially held my attention about talk show is how it plays with pain. Humour became a way of understanding things, then a way of explaining them. Now it’s become a way of helping other people.
The combination of being told to speak out about mental health and writing comedies to play jokes on myself, actually turned into the best type of treatment I could ever have had. Nothing has ever really helped normalise a thought or feeling quite like a joke that makes people openly say, “Me too!”
That’s why I’ve come up with a six-week comedy course aimed at people with mental health difficulties. It builds lasting friendships, fights against loneliness and normalises conversations around mental health; when audiences are laughing, they have to be listening, and when they’re listening, they can learn. This unique opportunity enables comedy to reach people in a completely different way to all the sob stories, shocking statistics and dry documentaries (纪录片) about mental illness, inspiring with positivity rather than turning to negativity.
Talk show was a must to my recovery. So, I want to pay that forward and show other people that your mental health doesn’t have to be “broke” before you can “fix it”.
24.Why is “anorexia” experience mentioned in the passage?
A.To provide exact examples about mental health.
B.To introduce a kind of treatment for mental health.
C.To stress the importance of caring about mental health.
D.To make a comparison between these two times of feelings.
25.Why does comedy attract the author most at the very beginning?
A.It helps others. B.It spreads humour.
C.It deals with pain. D.It serves as a hobby.
26.What can we learn from the story?
A.The author is an active and ambitious person.
B.Comedy plays an important part in people’s life.
C.The author will pass on comedy to help others.
D.A six-week course is open to help the disabled.
27.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.My Life Is Full of Talk Show
B.Mental Health Should Be Fixed Earlier
C.Humorous Lifestyle — a Key to Curing Ourselves
D.Talk Show — an Efficient Way to Fix Mental Health

The pandemic-caused lockdown(封锁) threw up many trends, but one that shows no sign of dwindling(减少) is “cottagecore”.
So, what is cottagecore all about? Cottagecore is a social media trend seen as a romanticized explanation of countryside living, where cottage-dwellers can make homemade jam and live off the land.
Naomi Stuart, who documents her countryside dream on her cottagecore Instagram page, says, “Since lockdown, the trend has become far more popular with people who look for rural properties when they work from home. Gorgeous images on social media of living in the countryside have sold the dream that life out in the sticks is less stressful. And it is. I share my cottage life as I hope it will give people a little insight into what living in a small village surrounded by the countryside is like. Peace and quiet, the sounds of nature, no road noise, cows and sheep in the nearby fields, horse riders and dog walkers going by. For me, it is the perfect de-stress cure for everyday stresses and strains that we all have.”
With COVID-19 grounding most of the world, “home” has taken on a new meaning. And as we make sense of our new normal, the focus is being placed firmly on living a simple and slower life.
Cottagecore is a concept that anyone can embrace. Look at decorating your home in a traditional, old-fashioned style and take up skills such as drying flowers, spending time growing vegetables and enjoying time in the evening by candlelight with loved ones. The interpretation of cottagecore spans a variety of ideas, from slow fashion to home decor(装饰), home cooked meals, and gardening.

A.In the forests. B.In the country areas.
C.In the unfurnished houses. D.In the abandoned buildings.
29.What can we learn about cottagecore from the text?
A.It tends to decline during the lockdown.
B.It is a way to keep away from COVID-19.
C.It shows the good of living in the countryside.
D.It is interpreted as an old-fashioned way of life.
30.What’s the author’s attitude to cottagecore?
A.Supportive. B.Skeptical. C.Opposed. D.Unconcerned.
31.Which of the following might be the best title for the text?
A.Cottagecore— a trend of a peaceful life
B.Cottagecore—a way to deal with Covid-19
C.Cottagecore—a new lifestyle hard to adopt
D.Cottagecore— a necessary experience for the young

In July, Australian artist Matthew Griffin had his work Pickle(《酸黄瓜》)exhibited at a New Zealand gallery. The work is merely a pickle taken from a McDonald’s burger, stuck onto the gallery’s ceiling with ketchup(番茄酱)on it. With a price tag of NZ$10,000 (about 42,200 yuan), it started an ongoing debate: Is this art?
In fact, this is not the only strange artwork people have seen in recent years. In 2019, Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan’s work Comedian featured a store-bought banana with duct tape(强力胶). Far before that, Artist Rogier van der Zwang used 3D animation instead of painting materials to make visual rainbow. These trends bring us back to the classic discussion on how to understand art.
As British art historian Ernst Gombrich famously put it, “There really is no such thing as art. There are only artists.” Art is a personal expression; ultimately its agency is created by the artist. As each era cultivates its unique artists, the private message an artwork conveys can connect with every individual across time. Great artists from the past to the present all enjoy both fame and criticism. The way they appeal to certain audiences and encourage a wide range of debates and interpretations is exactly the charm of art.
Opponents may hold that despite the artist’s right to create, it is not up to the artist to determine if a piece of work is considered art. It is true that we see only the leftover of a cheeseburger. There is no real technique in Griffin’s Pickle. However, this is also where it is open to interpretation: For some, the pickle seems meaningless and artificial; for some, the pickle can be a commercial and cultural symbol. There is undoubtedly an innovation of “form”. It shows the artist’s exploration of the vehicle of art. The slice of pickle can be seen as a symbol. The ketchup plays an influence on the colors, with the surrounding white wall being another vehicle for expression.
After all, art welcomes various responses, which explains why viewing art is such an engaging experience.
In a word, we should always keep an open mind toward any embodiment(化身)of art.
32.What do we know about the work Pickle?
A.It’s made on the gallery’s ceiling.
B.It is as simple as the banana work.
C.People’s opinions vary on the work.
D.People think it’s not worth the money.
33.Which of the following is true according to paragraph 3?
A.Art can connect with people easily.
B.Artists are always admired by people.
C.The interpretation of art is critical.
D.The understanding of art is subjective.
34.What’s the author’s attitude to the work Pickle?
A.Objective B.Opposed C.Favorable D.Indifferent

A.connective but unreal B.charming but untouchable
C.abstract but engaging D.appealing but controversial

Dear schoolmates,
Over the past fifteen days, the novel virus has made its way around China. It has a strong impact on our life and study. Faced with the crisis, we students should respond actively to the appeal from authority and experts. In order to ease the serious condition, all of students had better do as follows.
First of all, stay at home and don't go out if not necessary. Be responsible for yourself and others. In addition, do wear masks while you are in the open air. As we all know, it can reduce the risk of contracting the virus. Washing hands as often as possible is needed, too. Most importantly, everyone ought to have a positive attitude to the campaign with the disease. Attitude is everything.
My dear friends, there may be a long way to go for us. Let's work hand in hand to overcome anxiety and do some bits. We have faith in the fact that tomorrow is another day.
