One summer during high school, my mom volunteered me to help Grandpa research our family tree. It’s terrible to imagine hours spent dusting boxes and listening to boring stories about people I didn’t know. “You’ll be surprised,” my mom promised. “Family history can be very interesting.”
In truth, Grandpa didn’t want to limit(限定) my work to just research, hoping to also keep our family memories. He’d discovered a computer program that helped digitally scan(扫描) old pictures and letters to maintain their contents before they crumble from age. Grandpa wanted me to help him connect the scanner and set up the computer program. He could type documents and send emails, but had never used a scanner.
Soon after, I became interested my relatives’ lives. I asked Grandpa to tell the story behind every picture and letter we scanned. The stories, which turned out not to be boring at all, helped me not only understand but also relate to my relatives. I became so eager for more information that Grandpa needed additional props(道具) to keep me satisfied. He showed me a chest filled with random stuff, all covered in dust.
Looking through their belongings, I felt I was opening a window to the world of my relatives, a world long since gone. Grandpa showed me letters he had sent to Grandma from the front line of World War II and I could almost smell the gunpowder. I turned the pages of my great-grandmother’s recipe book and could picture her cooking in her kitchen. All of the people who had been only names to me now had faces to match.
Later, Grandpa admitted, “I probably could have done this project myself. I just wanted someone to share it with.” I can’t thank him enough for sharing the experience and making me appreciate the family members who have made me who I am.
24. Which can best describe the author’s first impression of the research?
A. Delightful. B. Boring. C. Surprising. D. Interesting.
25. What does the underlined word “crumble” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Come to life. B. Tear apart. C. Fall to pieces. D. Break through.
26. Why did Grandpa give the author a chest?
A. To show him old letters. B. To keep him away from boredom.
C. To give him something to sort out. D. To satisfy his eagerness to know more.
27. What can we learn about Grandpa from the passage?
A. He possibly served as a soldier in the past.
B. He knew nothing about the computer.
C. He buried the letters under gunpowder
D. He loved sharing what he had with others

If there were an app on your phone that could improve your memory, would you try it? Who wouldn’t want a better memory? After all, our memory can be easily damaged by diseases, injuries, bad mental health conditions and, most particularly for all of us, aging.
Nowadays, there are a large number of apps that provide memory training. Can they help you remember to take medicine, do better on a school exam, remember the name of the person whom you met yesterday? Some scientists question whether this is possible. Undoubtedly, many of the brain training companies today exaggerate(夸大) the benefits of using their apps.
Scientists have provided proof that brain training does not benefit everyone in the same way. It is suggested that little consideration has been given to who would benefit most from those brain training apps. Will they only be those who have some forms of memory impairment(缺陷),or those eager for self-improvement even though they are already functioning very well?
To overcome these limitations, our team has started a new study aiming to find 30,000 volunteers to help us decide which form of training may be the best for individuals. Our goal is to avoid a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead of focusing on the simple question of whether brain training works, we are considering covering the whole population in a new challenge to test for whom brain training works, and under which conditions.
28. What can affect our memory in particular?
A. Getting ill. B. Being injured. C. Being upset. D. Getting old.
29. What is the scientists’ attitude to memory training apps?
A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Objective. D. Optimistic.
30. Why did the author’s team conduct the study?
A. To test whether brain training works.
B. To develop a training that suits all the people.
C. To compete with other memory training organizations.
D. To find the best form of training for different people.
31. Where is the article probably from?
A. A fashion magazine. B. A tour guide.
C. A science website. D. A personal blog.
D
The famous Spanish painter Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist. The problem he has is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”
This is both encouraging and discouraging. The fact that we were all born to be artists is certainly exciting, and yet the reality has proven that many of us have failed to remain one.
Fortunately, some people have seen the problem and want to solve it.
Western educators have suggested that we introduce the concept of “STEAM” instead of “STEM”—traditional “core majors” including science, technology, engineering, and math—since the “A”, which stands for “art”, is just as important.
And on April 11, China’s Ministry of Education issued a guideline. Colleges and universities are required to provide more art-related courses and students need to earn a certain number of art credits in order to graduate.
These efforts came after many scientific studies had found that art education helps students develop self-confidence and teamwork skills, as well as habits of mind such as problem solving and critical thinking, according to The Washington Post.
It’s true that none of these skills is aimed for specific jobs. But as former US ballet dancer Damian Woetzel told The Atlantic, the purpose of art is “to give kids the tools to become adults who are creative, adaptable, and expressive—capable of having their eyes and ears and senses alive”. And we can now see how we lost track of our born “artist self” on our way to growing up: We failed to keep our abilities to see, hear and feel, and became blind, deaf and insensitive adults.
Hopefully, art education can help turn things around.
32.What is the function of the first paragraph?
A. To introduce the topic. B. To summarize the whole passage.
C. To introduce a famous artist. D. To encourage us to be artists.
33. Why should the concept of “STEAM” be introduced according to western educators?
A. Art is as important as traditional “core majors”.
B. All of us should learn art in college.
C. Traditional “core majors” are out of date.
D. Western education is more helpful.
34.What can we predict from the guideline issued by China’s Ministry of Education?
A. More art-related courses will appear in all schools.
B. College students will have to gain enough art credits to graduate.
C. More students will major in art at colleges and universities.
D. Art will become much more important than science.
35.What is the best title of the passage?
A. Every child is an artist B. Learning from the artists
C. Bringing art to life D. Life is art

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Family time is one of the most important times in a children’s life. My family and I spend a lot of time together, including having dinner together every night. 36 Even when my father is away on business, my mother, my sister and I talk and have fun together. As a teenager, spending time with my parents is not the most fun thing I do but I feel it is necessary. I learn from them every time we talk, whether it is about my dad’s job or my mother’s day.
37 Data show that only 50% of families sit down for dinner together every night. That’s a shame because researchers claim that kids who have these regular family dinners tend to have a sense of belonging and safety. 38 And they are also more likely to have better grades and a larger vocabulary.
There have been many recent studies showing kids are “wilder” than they used to be. 39 I think less attention from parents might be one of them. If parents spend more time with their children, they will keep their kids away from television, video games and “wild” ideas.
I have noticed in old TV shows and my parents’ stories that not long ago sitting at the family dinner table was not a choice, but a must. 40 It is probably because parents and children are under more pressure from work and study. Although we all lead busy lives and are always running around trying to finish homework or play sports, we should all spend 20 minutes each day eating dinner with our family.
A. Nowadays, it seems harder for people to find time to be together. B. I did some research on the “family table” idea. C. Children just watch TV and play computer games. D. There are certainly many reasons for this. E. We don’t watch television. Instead, we sit down at the table to eat and discuss our days. F. What’s more, they learn better behaviors during the time with their parents. G. It is important for parents to teach children how to behave |

A new student was transferred (转学) to Jackson’s class yesterday. Jackson sat at his school desk and looked over at the new kid, whose name was Billy. He just moved here from Florida. It was his second day in class and, so far, Jackson had not talked to him. Today, Jackson was going to try to make a new friend at recess (课间休息).
When the bell rang for recess, Jackson hurried out of his seat and followed Billy outside.
“Hi Billy,” Jackson said as they walked outside. “Do you want to play basketball?”
“No. I'm not very good at basketball.”
“Do you want to play kickball?” Jackson asked.
“No. I’m not good at that either,” Billy said. Billy walked away from Jackson and sat on a big flat rock in the grassy part of the schoolyard.
Jackson stood there and wondered what to do next. He asked Billy to do two things but both times Billy said no. Maybe he didn’t like Jackson. Maybe he didn’t want to make friends. Jackson thought about playing basketball with some other kids. He looked over at Billy sitting on the rock all by himself. “It must be hard to move to a new school,” Jackson thought. So he decided to give it one more try.
Jackson remembered the cars in his pocket. “Do you like cars?” Jackson asked Billy as he walked up to him. “Sure!” Billy said with a smile. Jackson finally knew what the kid was interested in. He reached into his pocket and took out two cars. “My brother gave me these. He has tons of cars and always gives me his old ones.” He handed one of the cars to Billy. It was a Mustang, Jackson’s favorite car, and he always took it with him.

作文1
Dear Jack,
How are you? I’m sorry to hear your problem. I’m glad that you are willing to share your worries about your studies with me. Don’t worry! I think I can offer you some advice.
First, if I were you, I would talk to the teacher about the tests and I think your teacher will understand. Also, you should put aside enough time to do your homework and delete some social activities from your calendar. After all, in this period, studies come first. Besides, I think you can study with your friends after school and will work faster then.
I hope that my advice is helpful to you. Please write to me again if you need any more help.
Yours,

作文2
Paragraph 1:
“Awesome! I love Mustangs!” said Billy as he rolled the car over the rock. “Me too!” Jackson said with a little excitement. “It’s my favorite kind of car!” Jackson sat on the ground and rolled his car across the rock, making a car noise as he did. Billy thanked Jackson for sharing his car with him. Jackson told Billy that his dad had a real Mustang and invited him to come over to his house on the weekend and see it. “That would be awesome!” replied Billy. “I’d love to go!”
Paragraph 2:
“It’s so kind of you to invite me to your house,” Billy added. “I’m having a hard time making friends. I know it takes time to adapt to a new school.” “Well, you made one today. Don’t worry. You’ll feel at ease here soon,” Jackson said as he pushed the car over the edge of the rock and down into the grass. Jackson was happy that he could take the opportunity to get to know his new friend. He could already tell that they were going to be best friends.
