Ask students to summarize details when writing a travel plan to a friend.
Step 2 Reading for structure and language features Ask students to work in groups to skim the passage again to summarize the structure of the email in the table in Activity 2 on page 31. Invite groups to present their answers to the class, check the answers with the class. Ask students to read again to find the expressions Richard uses to describe a travel plan in Activity 2(1) on page 31, and then brainstorm for more expressions. Ask students to read again to underline the words and phrases used to express emotions in the email to complete the sentences in Activity 2(2) on page 32, and then brainstorm for more expressions.
Step 3 Getting ready for writing an email about a travel plan. Ask students to read through the steps of writing a travel plan in Activity 3 on page 31. Pair students and ask them to read brochures of three tourist attractions in Britain: Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and Millennium Bridge.
Step 4 Drafting an email about a travel plan. Ask students to make their own draft of a travel plan with the brochures given, which should contain the main purpose, other plans, transport and final thoughts.
Step 5 Reviewing each other’s drafts Ask students to exchange their drafts and use the checklist in Activity 3 on page 31 to give feedback on each other’s drafts. Invite students to present their works and make comments. Ask students to polish their email according to the feedback from their peers.Have students put the revised versions up in the classroom.
