Principal Hardy of Brewer High was a busy man. He didn’t have much time to talk to Jay Stone. But Jay was on the school’s football team and he was failing Maths.
A player failing a subject must be taken off the team. It was well known that Mr Hardy had something against players—that he was stricter(严格的) with them than with the other students.
When Jay sat down, Principal Hardy gave him a warm smile. “Some people say I’ve got something against players,” he said slowly. “That, of course, is not true. I treat players and non-players the same.”
