【教材分析】
本节课是人教版九年级上册英语第五单元第四课时,课型为阅读课。本单元主题焦点是介绍最具中国特色的传统艺术,如孔明灯、剪纸和陶土,包括它们的制作工艺、制作原料和象征意义等。通过本节课,还训练学生一个重要的阅读策略,即让学生了解文章结构的特点,先总体介绍,后细节描写。
《新课标》强调英语的交际性,通过本课的学习使学生能真正的做到用语言交际的目的。
【学情分析】
九年级学生对于本课所涉及的传统艺术较为熟悉,对于这些传统艺术的制作材料以及用途也不陌生,可以引导学生使用目标句型进行谈论这一话题。本篇文章可以拓展学生的知识面和提升民族自豪感,对学生跨文化交际中所需的文化敏感也有潜移默化的作用。

通过学习中国的传统文化艺术,体会普通事物中的美,加深对民间艺术的理解,提升民族自豪感。

【教学过程】
Step1:Lead-in
Let’s enjoy a short movie about traditional art forms. There are ten kinds of art forms. What are they?
(设计意图:通过观看影片,激活学生有关中国传统文化艺术相关知识,提高学习兴趣。)
Step2:Pre-Reading.
Tell students to look at the pictures and read the first sentence of each paragraph. Find out the three art forms mentioned in the passage.
Show the title of the passage. (Beauty in common things.)
(设计意图:通过学生观察图片和快速阅读文章,找出文中提到的三种传统艺术形式,了解文章的大意。)
Step 3:While--reading
(1) Read the paragraph 1. Tell the students, this time they should read the passage a little more carefully and ask students to realize that a general introduction of the topic is usually followed by specific details and examples.
Then answer question: What do traditional Chinese art form try to show?
(2) Sky lanterns. Read paragraph 2 and answer these questions.
Who first used sky lanterns?
What were they made of ?
What were they used for before and what are they used for now?
Symbols ?
Write them on the blackboard ( were /are used for, are used at, are seen as)
(3) Paper cutting. Read paragraph 3 and fill in the blanks
The red picture is _____. It is ____ with _____
The common pictures are ________,________ and things about history.
During Spring Festival, they ___ _____on windows, doors and walls.
They are symbols of wishes for good luck and ______________.
Write them on the blackboard ( is folded, is cut, are put)
(4) Chinese clay out. Read paragraph 4
Steps of clay art pieces and number the correct order.
Write “T”or“F”and correct them.
①. The clay pieces are big and they look real. F
②. The pieces are shaped by hand. T
③.They are fired at a normal heat. F
④.The small pieces of clay art show the love that all Chinese people have for life and beauty . T
Check the answers together.
(设计意图:运用Scanning技巧,迅速把握第一段的要点,寓教于乐。第二、三、四段,整体把握全篇总分的结构并了解文章大意,完成给出学生具体的阅读任务,使学生明确学习的目的。)
Step 4. Mind map of traditional art forms. Show them on ppt .
Ask students to retell the passage according to the mind map by themselves. Then share the ideas.

Step 5:Post--- reading
Work in groups , talk about the things about kites, green tea, barbecue, silk quilts.

Step 6:Writing

Step 7:Sum up and homework
1.Write a passage about a traditional art.
2.Search more information about traditional arts on the Internet.
(设计意图:通过小结学生对本节课所学习的中国传统文化,引导学生爱我们的国家,提升民族自豪感。)
