Ask students: Is our uniform beautiful? Do you like to wear uniforms? Show a picture of students wearing different kinds of uniforms, ask students: Do you like their uniforms? Would you like to wear such uniforms everyday? If students have a chance to choose or even design their own uniforms, what kind of uniform will they like? So, do you think teenagers should be allowed to wear their own uniforms?Step 2 PresentationAs a teenager, you have a lot of rules at school, do you agree with these rules? Why?Please look at the pictures and I will invite some students to tell us whether teenagers should be allowed to do these things and give reasons.Step 3 Listening PracticeNow please look at the pictures. From the three small pictures, what can you guess the girl wants to do?Ss: She says she’s going to the mall with John. Because John just got his driver’s license. She wants to buy a nice T-shirt. But I can’t understand picture 3 clearly, I can only be sure it’s something about piercing ears or earrings. From the picture we can just guess the main ideas. After listening to the recording, we can catch their meanings in detail. So listen to the tape carefully. Have students read the three sentences in 1b, play the recording for the first time and ask them to listen to the tape carefully and circle T for true or F for false. Play the tape again and ask students to answer the questions about the conversation. Check the answers. Ask some students to read the conversation in the picture in 1a and say what Ann should be allowed to do and what Ann should not be allowed to do.Step 4 Practice Here are some more examples about what teenagers should be allowed to do or shouldn’t be allowed to do. Let’s look at the pictures in 1a. Read the statements together. Then think it over and circle A for agree or D for disagree. Have students read the statements in 1a and finish the exercise individually. Ask two students to share their answers with the class and give their reasons.Step 5 Pair work Ask two students to read the sample conversation in 1c, then ask students to look at the statements in 1a and make a conversation using the information in 1a. Move around the classroom and listen to some pairs in order to check the progress. Offer language help if needed. Ask some pairs to share their conversations with the class. Encourage them to talk more about the reasons and their own opinions. Sample conversation:A: I don’t think sixteen-year-olds should be allowed to drive.
B: I agree. They aren’t serious enough.
Step 6 PracticeIn our daily life teenager should be allowed or should not be allowed to do a lot of things. What do you think of these facts? Discuss with your partner and make your own conversations.Sample conversation:A: Do you think students should be allowed to take snacks to school?B: Of course not. They may eat it in class or make the classroom a mess.Step 7 Writing PracticeAsk students to write some rules for our class. What should students be allowed to do or shouldn’t be allowed to do?Should be allowed to doShouldn’t be allowed to do Step 8 SummarySummarize the expressions and target language learned in this class;Have-part time jobsGet their ears piercedChoose their own clothesShould be allowed to doShouldn’t be allowed to doStep 9 HomeworkUse the sentence pattern “should be allowed to do” to write five sentences to show what you want most to be allowed to do and the reasons.
