    Section B (2a-2e)

    Teaching objectives:

    Get specific information of the passage by using some  reading strategies.

    (运用阅读策略从文章中获取关键信息。)

    Know how to face the failure and understand the love from our parents.

    (知道如何面对失败并能理解父母的爱。)

    Understand the true meaning of the team spirit. (理解团队精神的真谛。)

    Teaching emphasis:

    Students will be able to understand the story of Peter and some new expressions.

    Teaching difficult points:

    Students may find it difficult to understand the new expressions and read the passage which needs full feelings.

    Teaching methods:

    PWP Model (pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading)

    Teaching aids:

    Chalk, PPT, blackboard, pictures.

    Teaching procedures:

    Step 1 Warming up

    1. Divide the whole class into two teams. Girls are Team A and boys are Team B. There is a competition between the two teams. Try your best to be the winning team.

    2. Show the main tasks in this class and let students read them together. Then ask them to translate each of them.

    Step 2 Pre-reading

    Prediction: What did the passage mainly talk about?

    Show the title and picture, and fill in the blanks.

    1. These might be Peter’s ______ because they’re _________ the same ________.

    2. They must be on a _______ team because there is a ____________ in the picture.

    3. The soccer team might ________________.

    Ask: Did the soccer team win the game?

    Let students listen to Para.1 and answer the question.

    Step 3 While-reading

    1. Fast reading

    1). There are three different places in the story. Try to to find them.

       On Peters way home.     At home.     On the school soccer field.

    2). This passage can be divided into three parts according to different places.

       Part 1Para.1      Part 2 -Para.2-6      Part 3 ---Para.7-11

    3). Match each part with their main ideas.
       Part 1                 A. Understanding from Peter’s teammates.

       Part 2                 B. Advice from Peter’s father.

       Part 3                 C. Feelings of losing the game.

    2. Careful reading

    1). Say: As we all know, anyone can make a mistake. Peter also made a mistake. Whats his mistake?

    Read Para.1 carefully and answer the following questions.

    Whats his mistake?

    How did he feel after the game?

    Why did he feel angry and worried?

    2). Invite a student read Part 1 aloud and choose the right answer to explain the phrases.

    (1) How could he have missed scoring that goal?

       A. got the ball into the basket 

       B. didn’t get the ball into the basket

    (2) He had let his whole team down.

       A. make sb. disappointed 

       B. make sb. Satisfied

    (3) He was really worried that his coach might kick him off the team.

       A. ask sb. to leave

       B. ask sb. to join

    3). Read Para.2-6 carefully and find out some advice Peter’s father gave him.

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    4). Listen and match the feelings. Then role-play it.

     

     

       (As soon as he walked through the door...)

       _______ F: What's wrong, son?

       _______ P: I lost the game.

       (without another word; Peter's father knocked the door; opened the door to let

        him in...)

        _______ F: Look, Peter. I don't know what happened. But ....

    _______ P: I lost the game, Dad. ....

            F: Soccer is about team effort. ...

    (didn't say anything;  made him think carefully)

    5). Read Para.7-11 carefully and circle T for true or F for false.

       ( T   F ) 1. Peter felt uneasy when he went to the soccer field.

       ( T   F ) 2. Peter wanted to work hard together with his teammates to win the

              next game.

      ( T   F ) 3. Peter’s teammates didn’t blame(责备) him.

    Step 4 Post-reading

    Further thinking: What should we do on a winning team?

     The true meaning of Team Spirit

    Encourage each other

    Support each other.

    Learn to communicate with our teammates.

    Learn from each other.

    Learn from mistakes

    Pull together.

    Be brave to face the failure(失败).

    have an optimistic attitude(乐观的态度).

    Step 5 Summary   

    Retell Peter’s story by using the following words, phrases and so on.

     

     

     

     

     

     

    Step 6 Which is the winning team, Team A or Team B?

    Step 7 Homework

    1. Read the story fluently.

    2.Sum up (归纳总结) the key phrases and sentences in the passage. And keep these in your mind.
