The Shirt of a Happy Man (Part II).
1. Teaching aims
1) Knowledge aims:
Ss learn the key phrases and sentence patterns, remain unhappy, a happy person with power and money, search for, give sth. to sb. , make sb.+ adj. , make sb. do sth., hear sb. doing sth.
2)Ability aims:
Ss learn to gather information from the listening material to solve the problems.
Ss can finish a little difficult listening task gradually.
Ss can speak English aloud by retelling and role-play conversation.
3)Emotion aims:
Ss should learn contentment; Power, money and fame can’t give us happiness, contentment is the key to happiness; They should happy every day.
- Analysis of the students
Students in Grade Nine have had the basics of the listening and speaking. We are trying to encourage them to listen more and speak more Ss have learned the story of The Shirt of a Happy Man (Part I) in SectionA and can express it by using the target language. We are going to consolidate Ss’ speaking and listening in this class.
3. Teaching key points:
Know about the story’s development and describe it by using the target language.
4. Teaching difficult points:
1) How to gain the correct information by listening and describe the story.
2) The understanding of happiness.
5. Teaching process
Step 1 Warm up.
1) Greetings.
2) Play a happy song. Ss sing along with the music together.
T: Boys and girls, are you happy?
S: Yes.
设计意图:一起唱Happy song ,让学生放松自己,激发学习兴趣,活跃课堂气氛。
Step 2 Role-play The Shirt of a Happy Man (Part I).
T: A long time ago, there is an unhappy king in a rich and beautiful country. He slept badly and didn’t want to eat. Let’s watch the story together.
1) Ss Role-play The Shirt of a Happy Man (Part I).
2) T asks a student to ask some questions according to the story.
设计意图:帮助学生回顾Section A 3a 的故事,让学生对本节课的内容有初步的感知,为故事情节的发展做铺垫。
Step 3 Pre-listening. Guess the possible endings.
T: Who goes to look for the happy person?
S: The king’s top general.
T: Will the general find a happy man?
Will the king be happy?
Can you guess the possible endings?
(T presets some endings before having class.)
Task1: Group work: Discuss the possible endings to the story.
Task2: Ss share the possible endings.
设计意图:鼓励学生预测故事的发展,激发他们的好奇心,帮助他们顺利过渡到下面的听力环节。
Step 4 While- listening.
Task1: Listen to The Shirt of a Happy Man (Part II). Are the following statements True (T) or False (F)?

Step 5 Post-listening.
Task1: Pair work .
1) T asks questions and Ss answer.
2) Ask Ss to make conversations with their partners.
设计意图:巩固听力内容,加强口语训练。
Task2: Retell The Shirt of a Happy Man (Part II).
1) Ask one or two Ss to retell the story with the mind-map on the Bb.
2) Ss try to retell the story together with the content in white board.
设计意图:在学生理解听力内容的基础上,根据故事内容来锻炼说的能力,同时提高了学生们的课堂积极性。
Task3: Role-play The Shirt of a Happy Man (Part II).
Ask two or three groups to act out their conversations in front of Ss and encourage them.
设计意图:充分发挥学生们的想象力,编造剧情,表演不同的结局。
Step 6 Discussion.
T: What is the poor man’s thoughts about happiness?
S: He had everything he wanted, and he didn’t want what he couldn’t have.
T: What’s your happiness?
1) Ss discuss their happiness in their groups
2) Share their happiness with everyone.
设计意图:引导学生能够就课堂上讨论的问题提出自己的观点和建议。通过讨论的内容体现了文章的情感态度和价值观,并引导学生学会满足,快乐的学习,开心每一天。
Step 7 Homework:
Write down the rest of the story with your own opinions.
