    (Section B Reading2a-2e)

     

    Analysis of teaching of materials:

       This passage is mainly about the symbol of the American culture-Mickey Mouse. Have students learn about the history of Mickey Mouse in cartoons and the development. As teenagers are interested in cartoons and love Mickey Mouse deeply, this passage will interest and inspire them.

     

    Teaching Aims:

    1      Have students learn about new words(能知道大概意思,不影响阅读为原则):

    ready simple  girlfriend   culture     famous    appear   become  character film  lose   rich  successful   main    reason   common   unlucky

    2      Learn about the history and development of the Mickey Mouse.

    3      Have students can retell this passage and try to make up a short passage about their favorite cartoon characters.

     

    Teaching key points and difficulties:

    1. Learn about the history and development of Mickey Mouse.
    2.  Try to retell the history and development of Mickey Mouse.

    Teaching Methods skimming; scanning; reading carefully

     

    Teaching Aids:  media player;   blackboard

     

    Teaching Procedures:

    Step1 Introduce myself to students.

    Step2 Set up the remark system:

    Divide the students into four groups and tell them remark system. (which group can get more right answers, they are winners.)

    Step3 Lead in:

     (1) Show some pictures about cartoon movies and let students talk about their favorite cartoon character. Then lead in the sentence: Cartoon is a symbol of American culture.

     (2) Show the main character in this lesson.

    T: Today, I will show you a famous cartoon character, but you have to guess it, OK? Please listen carefully. It is an animal. It has two big eyes and round ears, and it is afraid of the cat, who is he? (边画边问:who is he ?)  Then lead in the sentence: Mickey Mouse is the symbol of American cartoons.

     

    Step 4 Presentations:

    Task1:

    1 Fast reading (read the whole passage):

    T: How many paragraphs are there in this passage?

    Then show the key words in each sentence to students and ask them to read the first part of each paragraph and match the main ideas with paragraphs.

    P1     Mickey is one symbol of American cartoons.        

    P2     Mickey became very famous and popular.

    P3     How Mickey became so popular.

    Task2: Pay attention to the key words in the chart, and read the paragraph1 and fill in the blanks.

    When did Mickey come out?

    The Mickey appeared in the cartoon Steamboat Willie on _____  _____

    Who created Mickey?

    The man behind Mickey is__________

    In the 1930s

    Then ask students to summarize the main idea of paragraph1

    Task3:  have students read paragraph2 carefully and finish the blanks in the mind map. Then try to summarize the paragraph2.

    Task4: read the paragraph 3 and try to complete the blanks:

    Then answer two questions:

    2 What do people think of Mickey?

    Then summarize main idea in paragraph3 using one sentence ___________________.

     

    Step5 post-reading

    1       Have students fill in the blanks in a group and try to finish the retelling of the passage.

     

     

     

    2 Then after showing answers, show the mind-map again and ask some students to answer these questions and retell the passage again.

     

     

    Step 6 Summary:

    Why Mickey Mouse and Sun Wu Kong can be the symbols of the countries? Ask students to talk about them and lead in the topic: smile to the problems; try our best, never give up

     

    Step7   Give a remark and presents.
