Step 1 | Lead-in
| To lead in the topic and list three useful reading strategies on the blackboard for farther learning. | |
Step 2 | Challenge 1 -- Guess the meaning from the context.
① I lost my iPhone. I feel blue. ② English is a piece of cake for me. ③ Are you available tomorrow? ④ It’s a waste of time. ⑤ Daniel is the apple of his father’s eye. ⑥ Boys and girls, please be all ears. 2. Help students get better understandings of these new expressions by try using them in conversations with students. | To help students learn how to guess the meaning according to the contest. | |
Step 3 | Challenge 2 -- Read pictures or titles to predict. 1. Have students predict the topic of the passage according to the titles or pictures. 2. Help students learn about the usual way to get the main idea of a passage quickly by trying on different passages. ① First sentences often tell the main idea. ② Last sentences often tell the main idea. ③ Repeated words often tell the main idea. | To master the predicting skill according to the titles or pictures.
