This is an even bigger school and it is very different. In kindergarten, you could play most of the time. In primary school there was still a lot of running and shouting. But this school is not for little children. In this school, we expect our students to be young adults. Here, we expect our students to be quiet and serious in class. We don’t want you to run or shout in this school. Or else you will be punished. You are still children, of course, but you are not little children. We will not treat you like them, so please try not to behave like little children. Our teachers will help you with your study in every way possible, but they will not hold your hand like the teachers in your primary school. You are young adults now, and we want you to take some responsibility for your own learning. We will give you every opportunity to learn, but if you don’t want to learn, there is little we can do except encouraging you. Please remember these words and act accordingly. If you do, I am sure you will have a great time here.

Here's the story of my growth over the past year. If anyone is inspired (激励) by this, that's wonderful.
I'd been stuck as this under-confident, fat and just frightened girl for years and years and years. Since I was a little girl, I'd been stuck like this, and I had lived a life where I'd be afraid of everything. But then it all started changing. Something clicked, and in over a period of 6 months I finally managed to stick to one of my diets, bringing me from overweight straight down to underweight. This proved ( 证明) that I could change myself.
One single time, I heard about a public speaking thing going on at my university, and for the first time, I managed to keep up the courage to go there. For the first time I was able to share my story, and able to do it in front of so many people possibly judging (评判) me, and suddenly all the fears about speaking publicly started vanishing. I never felt more confident.
This taught me I could get rid (去除) of my fears. It was from that point on that my road to change went from a rocky mess to a full-on empty highway.
Using the fact that I could change, and that I could get rid of my fears, I started working on them one by one. My fear of talking to strangers ,my fear of asking simple questions, my fear of hanging out with people, my fear of being myself... All of them were gone. And I still continue to progress to this day. I've never stopped.

Everyone has a phone in their pocket nowadays, but how often do we really use them for their original purpose—to make a call? Telephone culture is disappearing. What brought us to this moment, and what are its effects?
“No one picks up the phone anymore,” wrote Alex C. Madrigal on The Atlantic. “The reflex (习惯性动作)of answering—20th-century telephonic culture—is gone.”
The shift is of course due in large part to more communication options: texting with photos, videos, emojis, reaction gifs, links and even voice messages can be a more attractive option.
Texting is light and fun, not nearly as demanding of your attention as a phone call. It can also be done with multiple people at the same time. Social media, email and video calls have also eaten away at traditional phone calls.
In recent years, another reason has caused people to ignore phone calls completely: robocalls. Robocalls are automate(自动化的) messages from organizations verifying (核实)your phone number or telemarketers trying to sell something. Americans received 22.8 billion robocalls halfway through 2020, equaling an annual rate of 45.6 billion, slightly below 2018 numbers, according to YouMail, a robocall protection service and blocking app.
As telephone culture disappears, what is the loss of a singular family phone doing to the family unit? Early landline phones unified family members, whereas mobile phones isolate(隔离) them.
“The shared family phone served as an anchor(精神支柱)for home,” said Luke Fernandez, a Weber State University computer-science professor and co-author of Bored, Lonely, Angry, Stupid: Feelings About Technology, From the Telegraph to Twitter. “With smart phones, we have gained mobility and privacy. But the value of the home has been diminished, as has its ability to guide and monitor family behavior and perhaps connect families more closely,” Fernandez said.
Of course, as technology progresses, lives always change for better or for worse. With the loss of telephone culture, families will need to find other ways to unite.
28. What has caused the traditional telephone to lose its attraction according to the text?
A. People’s wide range of communication choices.
B. People’s addiction to social media.
C. People’s growing need for privacy.
D. People’s preference for robocalls.
29. What can we infer from Fernandez’s remark?
A. Smart phones make families closer.
B. Smart phones help people monitor family behavior.
C. The use of mobile phone has affected family bonds.
D. The value of home depends on how phones are used.
30. What’s the author’s attitude to the effects of the disappearing telephone culture? ______
A. Uninterested. B. Objective. C. Positive. D. Disapproving.
31. What does the article mainly talk about?
A. The past and future of telephone.
B. The development of communication tools.
C. The downfall of traditional telephone culture.
D. The relation between phone use and family bonds.
A 29. C 30. B 31. C
根据第三段“The shift is of course due in large part to more communication options: texting with photos, videos, emojis, reaction gifs, links and even voice messages can be a more attractive option.(这种转变很大程度上是由于更多的沟通选择:用照片发短信,视频,表情包,反应动图,链接,甚至语音信息可以是一个更有吸引力的选择)”可知,传统电话失去吸引力的原因是沟通的选择更多了。故选A。
根据倒数第二段Fernandez说的话“The shared family phone served as an anchor(精神支柱)for home,(共享的家庭电话充当家庭的精神支柱)”以及“With smart phones, we have gained mobility and privacy. But the value of the home has been diminished, as has its ability to guide and monitor family behavior and perhaps connect families more closely(有了智能手机,我们获得了流动性和隐私。但是家庭的价值已经被减弱了,它的指导和监督家庭行为的能力,也许还有使家庭更加紧密地联系在一起的能力也已经被削弱了)”可知,从Fernandez的话中我们可以推断出移动手机的使用会影响家庭关系。故选C。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Of course, as technology progresses, lives always change for better or for worse. With the loss of telephone culture, families will need to find other ways to unite.(当然了,随着科技的进步,生活总是要么变得更好,要么更糟。随着电话文化的丧失,家庭需要找到其他的方式来团结起来)”可知,作者对传统电话文化的消失的态度是“客观的”。故选B。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“Telephone culture is disappearing. What brought us to this moment, and what are its effects?(传统电话文化正在消失。是什么让我们走到了这一步,会产生什么影响?)”可知,本文主要介绍传统电话文化的衰落。故选C。
D
The idea of turning recycled plastic bottles into clothing is not new. During the past five years, a large number of clothing companies, businesses and environmental organizations have started turning plastics into clothing to deal with plastic pollution. But there's a problem with this method. Research now shows that microfibers(微纤维)could be the biggest source of plastic in the sea.
Dr. Mark Browne in Santa Barbara, California, has been studying plastic pollution and microfibers for 10 years. He explains that every time synthetic(合成的)clothes go into a washing machine, a large number of plastic fibers fall off. Most washing machines can't collect these microfibers. So every time the water gets out of a washing machine, microfibers enter the sewer and finally end up in the sea.
In 2011, Browne wrote a paper stating that a single piece of synthetic clothing can produce more than 1,900 fibers per wash. Browne collected samples(样本)from seawater and freshwater sites around the world, and used a special way to examine each sample. He discovered that every single water sample contained microfibers.
This is bad news for a number of reasons. Plastic can cause harm to sea life when eaten. Studies have also shown that plastic can take in other pollutants.
Based on this evidence, it may seem surprising that companies and organizations have chosen to turn plastic waste into clothing as an environmental "solution". Ever though the science has been around for a while, Browne explains that he's had a difficult time getting companies to listen. When he asked well-known clothing companies to support "Benign by Design", his research project, which is trying to get clothes that have a bad effect on humans and the environment out of the market, Browne didn't get a satisfying answer. Only one women's clothing company, Eileen Fisher, offered Browne funding.
32. What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A. New microfibers have been discovered
B. Making clothes from plastic bottles can't reduce the pollution.
C. The use of plastic bottle has been reduced in the past five years.
D. Turning recycled plastic bottles into clothing hasn't been put into practice.
33. What's the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. How to wash synthetic clothes.
B. How to prevent plastic pollution
C. How microfibers end up in the sea.
D. Relationship between plastic pollution and microfibers.
34. How does Browne's Benign by Design research project run?
A. It has achieved great success. B. It is facing some difficulties
C. It is known to very few people. D. It hasn't got anything done.
35. What's the best title for the text?
A. Recycled plastic clothing: solution or pollution?
B. Microfibers, the biggest source of plastic in the sea
C. Environmental protection: moving forward or backward?
D. Turning plastic into clothing, a new step in environmental protection
B 33. C 34. B 35. A
根据第一段“During the past five years, a large number of clothing companies, businesses and environmental organizations have started turning plastics into clothing to deal with plastic pollution. But there's a problem with this method. Research now shows that microfibers(微纤维)could be the biggest source of plastic in the sea. (在过去的五年里,大量的服装公司、企业和环保组织已经开始将塑料制成服装来处理塑料污染。但这种方法有个问题。研究表明,微纤维可能是海洋塑料的最大来源。)”可推断,用塑料瓶制作衣服不能减少污染。故选B。
【33题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第二段“He explains that every time synthetic(合成的)clothes go into a washing machine, a large number of plastic fibers fall off. Most washing machines can't collect these microfibers. So every time the water gets out of a washing machine, microfibers enter the sewer and finally end up in the sea.(他解释说,每次把合成纤维的衣服放进洗衣机,都会有大量的塑料纤维脱落。大多数洗衣机都不能收集这些超细纤维。所以每次水从洗衣机流出,超细纤维就会进入下水道,最终进入大海。)”可知,第二段主要是讲微纤维最后如何流入海洋。故选C。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“When he asked well-known clothing companies to support Benign by Design, his research project that seeks to get clothes that have a bad effect on humans and the environment out of the market, Browne didn’t get a satisfying answer.(当他请求知名服装公司支持他的研究项目“Benign by Design”时,Browne没有得到一个令人满意的答案。这个项目试图让对人类和环境有不良影响的服装退出市场。)”可推断,他的研究项目Benign by Design遇到了难题。故选B。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,并结合由第一段第二句“During the last five years, a large number of clothing companies, businesses and environmental organizations have started turning plastics into fabric to deal with plastic pollution.(在过去的五年里,大量的服装公司、企业和环保组织已经开始将塑料变成织物来处理塑料污染) ”和第一段最后一句“Research now shows that microfibers could be the biggest source of plastic in the sea.(研究显示,微纤维可能是海洋塑料的最大来源) ”可知,文章就这项技术究竟是对环境的保护还是对环境的再次污染进行说明。 故选A。
