A few days later, I bught a jalapeñ seedling(青辣椒秧苗).At least I culd say I’d tried gardening. I watered and changed the dirt fr my little plant. I even talked t it. And ver the summer, it grew bigger and bigger. I was prud. Maybe I didn't have a black thumb after al1.
I started the secnd year f my MFA, and then it was almst December and my jalapeñ was suffering. It was brwn in sme places; many f its leaves had fallen ff. Wuld my little guy make it? I prayed, "Please be kay." As if its survival were clsely linked t mine.

'A huge weight lifted. I'd dne it! At that time, I fund the flwers n my jalapeñ plant were gne. I watched clser. Where a flwer had been, a tiny green fruit pushed thrugh. I smiled.
