When I woke up on Aug.4, 2016, there was only one thing on my mind: what to wear. A billion thoughts raced through my brain in the closet. I didn't want to come off as trying too hard, but I also didn't want to be seen as a lazy and untidy person. Not only was it my first day of high school, but it was my first day of school in a new state. First impressions are everything, and it was important for me to impress the people who I would spend the next four years with.
This was my third time being a new kid. But this time was different because my dad promised that I would start and finish high school in the same place. This time mattered, and that made me nervous.
After meticulously searching my closet, I proudly came out in a dress from Target. The soft cotton was comfortable, and the ruffled shoulders added a bit of fun. Yes, this outfit was the one. An hour later, I felt powerful as I headed toward Room 1136. But as I entered, my jaw dropped to the floor.
Sitting at her desk was Mrs. Hutfilz, my English teacher, wearing exactly the same dress as me. I kept my head down and tiptoed to my seat. I made it through my minute introduction speech until she stood up, jokingly adding that she liked my style. Although this was the moment I had been afraid of from the moment I walked in, all my anxiety surprisingly melted away, and the students paid attention as I shared my story. My smile grew as I laughed with the students. After class, I stayed behind and talked to Mrs. Hutfilz, relieved to make a humorous and real connection.
Looking back four years later, the ten minutes I spent afraid of giving my speech were really not worth it. My first period of high school certainly made the day unforgettable in the best way and taught me that Mrs. Hutfilz had an awesome sense of style!

A teenager needs to have a sense of independence in their life. To some teenagers independence means a lot to them, and I think that some parents don't allow their teenagers enough independence.
Independence has something to do with freedom(自由).Some kids are not allowed to go anywhere alone, and the only thing their schedule includes is going to school, coming home, going to sleep, and repeating the process the next day. Parents are likely to be afraid that their kids can get hurt if they go outside into the world. But if parents control their kids too much, they may never learn to live on their own. The best way for a teenager to grow up is through experience.
Teenagers' lack(缺乏)of freedom can also stop them from having good friendship at school.
Some might say that this is a good thing, because it helps them focus more on their schoolwork. But I argue that this can only discourage them not to do their schoolwork. And some parents are afraid that their children are into trouble. Isn't this a good reason for parents to get their children a mobile phone? Mobile phones allow teenagers to keep in touch with their parents, and communicate better with their friends.
Privacy(隐私)is another issue between parents and their teenagers. Teenagers prefer to enjoy relaxation by themselves in their own room. This also gives them a sense of independence. It often annoys teenagers when their parents enter their room when they are not at home. I know that my mom always goes in my room when I'm not at home, and I have asked many times to get a lock on my door.
28.What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. Kids know how to live independently.
B. Some parents allow their kids no freedom.
C. Teenagers need to grow up through experience.
D. Kids have a boring life every day.
29. How do teenagers usually feel when their parents enter their rooms when they are not at home?
A. Disappointed. B. Lucky. C. Calm. D. Annoyed.
30.Why does the writer hope to have her door locked?
A. Because her father always reads her diary. B. Because her mother always enters her room.
C. Because she needs to protect herself. D. Because she needs to protect her things.
31.What can we know from the text?
A.It is unnecessary for a kid to have a mobile phone.
B. Parents should allow their teenagers enough privacy.
C. Parents should not allow their teenagers enough independence.
D.Good friendships between kids are harmful to their schoolwork.
D
Every summer, thousands of endangered green sea turtles(海龟)climb onto beaches around the world. Each mother sea turtle produces 100 or more eggs in a hole, and covers the hole with sand before she swims away.
Two months later, the eggs hatch(孵化),and the baby turtles climb out of the sand and swim into the ocean. They don't reappear until they have grown as large as dinner plates. Until now, no one knows where the baby turtles go or what they do.
"If we don't know where these little turtles are,we can't protect them," says Kim Reich, who helps solve part of the mystery.
Her teacher,Karen Bjorndal, has studied green sea turtles for more than 30 years. Every year Bjorndal goes to the Bahama Islands. Many young sea turtles come here to live and eat at the end of their childhood.
These turtles are the only sea turtles that live by eating plants. In fact, their name may be a result of what they eat. The turtles don't look very green but they do have green fat(脂肪). Scientists learned that the turtles eat green sea plants, which may turn their fat green.
Between 2002 and 2004,Bjorndal caught 44 green sea turtles in the Bahamas. After testing them, she found something to support the 20-year-old idea: baby green sea turtles eat meat before they turn to a diet of plants. In fact, they eat animals that live in the open ocean.
Scientists still need to find where exactly green sea turtles grow. We now know that baby green sea turtles are in the open ocean, but the open ocean is a big place.
"It is really a problem," says Bjorndal. The discovery may help us do a better job of protecting this sea animal.
32. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?
A. Mother turtles are as large as dinner plates.
B. No one knows when turtles appear on the beach.
C.Mother turtles leave the eggs after covering them with sand.
D. Baby turtles go to the ocean when they are three months old.
33.Why does Kim Reich research where baby turtles go?
A.Because she wants to protect turtles. B. Because she wants to help her teacher.
C. Because she wants to become a scientist. D. Because she wants to check whether her idea is right.
34.What does the underlined word "It" in the last paragraph refer to?
A. Living in the open ocean. B. Protecting this endangered sea animal.
C.Changing young turtles' eating habits. D. Finding out where young turtles grow.
35.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Where Do the Turtles Go B.What Do the Turtles Eat
C.When Will the Turtles Appear D.How Do the Turtles Turn Green

I'm more than delighted to know our school will launch a campaign themed " cherish the food and refuse to waste" next week. There is no doubt that the activity will help us to know more about food waste and encourage us to become eco-pioneers.
Here are my suggestions. First of all, we can put up posters promoting food saving on campus to raise our awareness of respecting farmers and valuing food. What's more, class meetings will be held to make a change in the students' attitude. Saving food is a traditional virtue in China, which we should never forget.
I hope the suggestions above are of some use. I believe the activity will be a complete success!
