20      except /ɪk'sept/ prep.除了…之外

        We can go there in any season except winter. 除了冬季以外的季节，我们都可以去那里。

        Except与besides（除了）、but(除了)的区别：

besides表示“除……以外，还有”，指“在整体中加入一部分”，含义是肯定的。

except表示“从整体中除去一部分”，含义是否定的。

but与except都可作“除……之外，不包括……在内”，常可互换。

Eg:①We all went besides him．除他之外，我们大家也都去了。

②We all went except him．除他之外，我们都去了。(他没有去)

Eg:There aremany rivers in China ____ the Changjiang andHuanghe．中国除了长江、黄河之外，还有许多河流。(besides/except)
