    I. Teaching aims and learning objectives

    By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

    1. extract information by reading and listening; 

    2. arrange and describe a trip to somewhere;

    3. talk about different Asian countries.

     

    II. Teaching contents

    1. New words: Japanese, state

    2. New structures: We are going to visit an ancient city called Kyoto and learn about Japanese cultures.

    Most people can speak both English and Chinese.

     

    III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty

    1. Develop the abilities of reading and listening through exercises in Part A.

    2. Learn to arrange and describe a trip to somewhere.

     

    IV. Teaching procedures

    A  A trip to Japan

    Step 1 An impression of Japan

    T: Today well talk about Japan. What do you think of Japan when you talk about it?

    S: Japan is famous for hot springs, sushi, geisha, sakura and so on.

    T: Then what places of interest in Japan do you know?

    S: Mount Fuji, Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo Tower, Tokyo National Museum and so on.

    T: Wow, you know a lot about Japan. Its really a nice place to visit. The exchange students are going to Japan after visiting Shanghai.

    【设计意图:直接由日本旅游宣传片导入新课,激发学生的学习兴趣,同时引导学生用英语描述自己印象中的日本,为下文的听读做好铺垫。】

     

    Step 2 A trip to Japan

    1. Itinerary of the trip

    T: Read the students itinerary and then answer some questions.

    T: How long will the exchange students stay in Japan?

    S: Four days.

    T: Where will the exchange students go?

    S: Kyoto, Tokyo and Mount Fuji.

    T: Where may they go first according to the map?

    S: Maybe Kyoto or Tokyo.

    T: Do they have the same thought like you? Lets listen and match.

    S: On the first day, they are going to take a tour of Tokyo, the capital city.

    S: On the second day, they are going to visit Mount Fuji, Japans highest mountain.

    S: On the third day, they are going to visit Kyoto, an ancient city of Japan.

    S: On the fourth day, they are going to leave Japan for another Asian country.

    T: You listened so carefully. Guess what can they do during their stay in Japan?

    S: Maybe they can go skiing on Mount Fuji.

    S: They may learn culture of Japan.

    2. Notes about the trip to Japan

    T: The exchange students are making notes of the trip. Before listening, lets read Part A2 and make some predictions.

    T: Where will they arrive?

    T: Yes, Tokyo. When you do the listening comprehension, you can just write one or two letters of the word if time is limited. Now, lets listen and complete the rest information.

    T: When will they leave and arrive? What will they do in Tokyo? How will they go to Mount Fuji and what will they do there? What about Kyoto? What else can they do during their stay in Japan?

    3. The trip to Japan

    T: Use the information in Parts A1 and A2 to complete the passageThe trip to Japan.

    T: Who can read for us? On the fourth day, they are going to leave for another Asian country. What place will they go?

    【设计意图:听力教学应注重听力策略的培养。听前的背景了解和适当预测是促进听力能力的有效途径。A1部分通过地理知识推测第一目的地和有可能的行程,减弱部分听力内容的难度;在A2部分通过就已知信息推测听力内容有可能出现的内容,进行适当预测,并渗透听写技巧,减轻学生听力的心理负担,有效提高听力。】

     

    B  Speak up: Wheres Singapore?

    Step 1 A trip to Singapore

    1. What Asian countries to go

    T: Do you have any ideas for their trip?

    S: I think Vietnam is a good place to go.

    S: Maybe they will go to Malaysia.

    S:

    2. A trip to Singapore

    T: I agree. Singapore is also a nice country. In fact, they will also visit this country. Do you know anything about Singapore? Where is it? How many people are there? What languages do they speak? Lets listen and try to fill in the table.

    S:

    T: Can you say something about Singapore according to the table?

    S: Singapore is a small country in South East Asia. People in Singapore speak both English and Chinese.

    3. A Reading competition

    T: Now, lets read after the tape and try to imitate the pronunciation.

    T: When we read, we should liaison some words, like it is, East Asia.

    T: Which pair would like to have a try? You please.

    T: What do you think of their dialogue? Can you read better than them? Have a try.

    T: OK, which group is better? Oh, I agree with you. Group 3 are the winners.

    4. Information about Asian countries

    T: Just now, we learn about Singapore. What about other Asian countries? Work in pairs and talk about one Asian country. Then share the information with us.

    S:

    T: I learned a lot from your dialogues. Thank you.

    【设计意图:speak up环节相对容易,让学生听对话完成表格,了解新加坡的基本信息,为下面的话题展开做好铺垫。通过跟读模仿和阅读竞赛,激发学生对英语语音语调的重视。听说互补,相得益彰。】

     

    Step 2 A travel route of Singapore

    1. Places of interest in Singapore

    T: Here is a map of Singapore. We can see some famous places of interest. Discuss in groups and try to plan a trip for the exchange students. How will they go there? What place will they go first? How long will they stay in Singapore?

    S: They can go there by plane. After arriving at the airport, they may go to the centre of the country, then Night Safari, next Lantau gallery birdpark, afterwards Chinatown and Little India, finally Sentosa and leave the country.

    2. The travelling route

    T: A careful plan. Lets write the plan down according to this table.

    V. Homework

    1. Finish the plan of the trip to Singapore.

    2. Search on the Internet and find some information about your favourite country, and then make a plan for your future travel.
