    三、完形填空
As the teacher called my name, I knew what lay ahead. She looked at me directly and made me to the whiteboard to perform a division (除法) problem. Division was my 36 subject. I repeatedly put the numbers in the 37 places, or forgot to add in the zeros.
I worriedly 38 myself out of my seat. With every slow step I took, I grew more nervous. My stomach ached, and my whole body shook with 39 .
The teacher read the problem aloud. Unsure of myself, I looked at the girl beside me, and tried to 40 what she was writing, but she went faster than I could understand, writing down what seemed to be foreign symbols.
My eyes fixed on the chicken scratch I had tried. Impossible to understand. Why me?Why couldn't I 41 the problem that seemed easy to all other kids? These 42 filled my head.
As the other girl finished and danced back to her seat, I wrote some random(胡乱的) 43 on the board, and rushed back to mine. The teacher read over our work.
"Now, class, Susie did this problem completely 44 . "
"As for Tara, "the teacher said jokingly, "I don't even know what she did. "
The class burst into laughs, and I felt my face turn 45 as I tried to sink as low as possible into my seat, hoping to prevent them from 46 me at all.
But this memory is one I remember, surprisingly, in a positive way. It made me 47 , and gave me persistence. When I get a 48 grade in school, or am put down by somebody, I think of that moment and every single one of those 49 that I asked myself. The terrible ache in my stomach comes back and gives me the motivation to answer all of those whys and try hard until perfection, or as 50 as I can get.

When I was nine years old, I wrote my first poem. My mother read the little poem and cried. “Buddy, it’s a beautiful, beautiful poem!” My mother poured out her praise.
“What time will Father be home?” I asked. I could hardly wait to show him my poem. My father had begun his movie career as a writer. He would be able to appreciate(欣赏)my poem even more than my mother. I confidently put the poem right on my father’s plate on the dining table.
My mother said he would be home around 7. But my father got home an hour later than expected. He sat down at the table and noticed his plate. “What is this?” I heard him say.
“Ben, Buddy has written his first poem. And it’s beautiful, so amazing!” Mother said.
“If you don’t mind, I’d like to decide that for myself,” Father said.
I kept my face lowered to my plate. It was only 10 lines long. But it seemed to take hours.  “I think it’s bad,” my father said. I couldn’t look up. My eyes were getting wet.
“Ben, sometimes I don’t understand you,” my mother was saying. “This is just a little boy. He needs encouragement.”
“I don’t know why,” my father held his ground. “Isn’t there enough bad poetry(诗歌) in the world already? No law says Buddy has to become a poet.”
I ran from the dining room, threw myself on the bed and cried.
A few months later, I read that first poem. It was a bad poem. I worked up the courage to show him a short story. My father thought it was not good but hopeful. I was learning to rewrite.
As I worked my way into other books and plays and films, I realized how lucky I was to have a mother who said, “Buddy, it’s wonderful!” and a father who shook his head “I think it’s bad.” Both are love that forces me to improve. In fact, all of us in life need both loving force.

"Dad," I say one day, "Let’s take a trip. Why don’t you fly and meet me? "
As a manager from IBM, my father’s job filled his day, his thought and his life. While he woke up and took a warm shower, I had fun under the Eiffel Tower. While he tied a tie and put on the same Swiss watch, I rowed a boat across Lake of the Ozarks.
My father sees me travelling without a purpose, nothing to show for my 33 years but a passport full of funny stamps. He wants me to settle down (安定下来), but now I want him to explore the world.
He agrees and we meet four weeks later in Rapid City.
"What is our first stop?" asks my father.
    "What time is it?"
    "Still don’t have a watch?"
Less than an hour away is Mount Rushmore. As he looks up at sculptures of the four Presidents in granite(花岗岩), his mouth and eyes open slowly, like those of little boy.
"Amazing," he says, "How was this done?"
A film in the information center shows sculptor(雕塑家) Gutzon Borglum devoted 14 years to the sculptures.
We look up and I ask myself, "Can I devote my life to anything?"
“No directions, no purpose.” I always used to hear those words in my father’s voice. But now I hear them in my own.
The next day we’re at Yellowstone National Park, where we have a picnic.
"Did you ever travel with your dad?" I ask.
"Only once," he says. "I never spoke much with my father. We loved each other---but never said it. Whatever he could give me, he gave."
The last sentence---it’s probably the same thing I will say about my father. And what I want my child to say about me.
In Glacier National Park, my father says, "I’ve never seen water so blue." I have, in several places of the world, I can keep traveling, I realize---and maybe a fixed job won’t be as boring as I’m afraid.
Weeks after our trip, I call my father. "The photos from the trip are wonderful," he says. "We have got to take another trip like that sometime." I tell him I’ve learned to decide to settle down and find a fixed job, and I’m wearing a watch.

Anvitha Vijay, nine, has created many educational apps. The young girl from Melbourne,Australia, learned to code(编程) at the age of seven. Only one year later, she was trying her hand at making apps.
“When I first got my iPad, I was interested in all the apps on it, ”she said, “It wasn’t long before I wanted to create my own.”
She built her first two apps with her younger sister. Smartkins Animals helps children identify(识别) animals. Smartkins Rainbow Colours teaches kids colours. Each app has been downloaded thousands of times.
Anvitha’s skills gave her an opportunity(机会)to attend a big meeting hosted by Apple in San Francisco, California. There, she got tips from experts and went to workshops where she learned about the latest software such as Sketch for app building.
All that training led to an idea for a third app. This one, called GoalsHi, helps kids to practise good habits. Users are rewarded(奖励) for achieving goals, such as eating their vegetables or practising the piano.
Anvitha says the rewards are like getting a sticker(贴纸) for a job that they do well.
“Kids can set goals with this app and get stars when they achieve them,”she says. “The idea is to encourage kids to achieve one little step a day.”
Anvitha’s goal is to continue creating apps that help kids learn while having fun. But even more important to her is that the world sees the power of technology in kids’ hands. “The more training we get in technology at an early age,”she says,“the better chance we will have of becoming a person who will change the world one day.”
    96. When did Anvitha Vijay make her first app?

    97. Which app can help children identify colours?

    98. What did Anvitha do during the meeting hosted by Apple in San Francisco?

    99. What kind of app does Anvitha hope to create?
