The ice-free terrace in eastern Antarctica's Victoria Land bears Jones name. In 1969, geochemist Lois M.Jones led the first all-female research team from the US to work in Antarctica.Jones and her team studied chemical weathering(风化作用)in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, an ice-free area of Antarctica. Born in Paris on June 16,1914,Colette started playing the piano at the age of five. Incredibly,Colette has been at the piano everyday since 1921!Even now, over a century on,she still sits at her piano every day to practise for several hours. In the 1930s, Colette studied in the class of Alfred Cortot, one of the foremost piano virtuosos(演奏家) in France at the time. Subsequently, Colette followed a life-long career as a piano teacher and accompanist.
    With one notable exception...
Between the 1930s and 1940s,war spread through Europe and across globe, changing countless lives dramatically. In this case,Colette was employed as a nurse in a hospital. You might expect this part of her story to be all about loss and express sadness but Colette always kept hope in her heart even in the worst adversity.
It perhaps will come as little surprise to hear that Colette is a fan of the Romantic era and especially composers such as Debussy and Schumann. What you might be surprised to hear, though,is that Colette began her careeras a recording artist at the late age of 85!
Colette's son often slept in the room where she kept her piano and for this reason heard his mother playing on a daily basis. Comparing her performances with that he heard on the radio, he was convinced his mother was the equal,if not the superior,of those he heard being broadcast. Several years ago, her son persuaded her to pursue a recording career—aged 85.
In 2021,Colette released her latest and 6th album“Un Siecle avec Debussy”. At the time of writing, Colette is 107 years old, so what does she attribute to her long life? Yoga, three eggs and a glass of wine are part of her daily routine. Without a doubt, however, the key ingredient(因素)is her love and passion for the piano. It’s an enduring and comforting relationship.
24.what does "one notable exception" in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A.She was once a student of Alfred Cortot.
B.She worked as a medical staff during the war.
C.She started playing the piano at the age of five.
D.She didn't stop playing the piano in adversity.
    25.Which can best describe Colette?
A.Long-lived but ordinary. B.Hard-working and humorous.
C.Optimistic and devoted. D.Well-known but modest.
26.What may be a critical factor in her long life?
    A.Regular exercise. B.Enduring relationship.
C.Nutritious diet. D.Constant enthusiasm for the piano.
27.Which can be the best title for the text?
A.A Century of Piano Playing B.The Oldest Artist
C.A Love of the Romanticism D.A Musician Without Equal
    C

A bunch of small but hungry bugs might hold the key to saving the planet thanks to their amazing ability to eat polystyrene(聚苯乙烯)—the material behind plastic foam(泡沫). These,so-called "superworms" could one day help rid landfills of this waste and thus put a dent in on of the drivers of global warming.
Chris Rinke and other researchers from the University of Queensland in Australia ate, studying the larvae of the darkling beetle(甲虫)-or zophobas morio, its scientific name They found the insects could survive on poystyrene alone, and in 66.7% of cases, finally transform into beetles on that relatively poor diet.
The secret lies in the stomach of these "superworms”, specifically their microbiomes(微生物群). The scientists studied how the larvae break down piles of plastic waste humans produce. The insects produce enzymes(酶)as they destroy the white stuff.
“We could have large worm farms with millions of worms and feed them polystyrene. Buy, what scales are better, and what is also cheaper, are to focus on the enzymes,”Rinke said.
The ultimate goal,he says, would be to reproduce these enzymes in a lab.“Polystyrene waste, which is a rather low-value product, goes through this biological breakdown using the enzymes,a crucial factor, and then you can feed it to microbes to then produce something like bioplastic, which is actually a higher-value product. So then you would break the cycle of waste,”he explained.
“I was on a vacation with my wife on a tropical island somewhere thousands of miles away from any continent and there's plastic. So plastic is really everywhere. It s obvious there s escape. Thus I decided to do some research on reducing the pollution," Rinke recalled.

    A.Plastic. B.Enzymes.
    C.Bioplastic. D.Polystyrene.
35.What inspired Rinke to do the research?
    A.His wife's opinion. B.Huge financial

Why Should You Stop Yelling(吼叫)at Your Kids
It doesn't make you look authoritative. It makes you look out of control to your kids. 36 .Yelling, similar to spanking(打屁股),is the response of a person who doesn't know what else to do. The use of spanking to discipline children has been in decline for 50 years. But yelling? 37 .
Households with regular shouting incidents tend to have children with lower self-esteem (自尊心)and higher rates of depression. A 2019 study in The Journal of Child Development demonstrated that yelling produces results similar to physical punishment in children. 38 But most parents find it hard to imagine how to get through the day without yelling. The new research on yelling presents parents with twin problems:What do l do instead? And how do I stop?
Dr. Kazdin promotes a programme called the ABCs,which stands for antecedents(前情),behaviours and consequences. The antecedent is the setup telling a child, specifically, whatyou want them to do before you want them to do it. 39 And the consequence involves an expression of approval when that behaviours performed,an expression of praise with an accompanying physical gesture of approval.
40 Instead of yelling at your kid every night for the shoes thrown across the floor, ask him in the morning if he can put his shoes away when he comes home. Make sure when you come home that you put your own shoes away. And if your child puts his shoes away,or even puts them closer to where they're supposed to be,tell him that he did a great job and then hug him.
A.It hurts your kids a little.
    D.It makes you look weak.
C.Let's take making kids putting away their shoes an example.
D.Behaviours are where the behaviour is defined and shaped by the parent.
E.Behavioural problems need a long-term joint efforts of parents and teachers.
F.Almost everybody still yells at their kids sometimes, even the parents who know it doesn't work.
G.It increases levels of anxiety, stress and depression along with an increase in behavioural problems.

In the very middle of the school yard stands the teaching building where you will be working. There is a library near it,in which you can find a great number of books and magazines. Behind the teaching building is a large playground on the right side. To the left is the dining hall where you will have the chance to eat a lot of delicious and healthy Chinese food.

    (Text 10)
A wildfire has been reported in Riverside County, Montana, east of Taylorsville. In this case, a campfire in the nearby Horse Peak Campground is thought to be the cause of this wildfire. Although lightning can cause wildfires, people cause 4 out of 5 of them. The especially dry weather this July, combined with strong winds from the west, has spread the fire at an alarming rate. The fire began only two hours ago, burning nearly 2 acres of land near the campground. Now it is quickly spread to 15 acres. The wildfire moves at speeds of up to 14 miles an hour, consuming everything—trees, bushes, homes, even humans—in its path. Firefighters have done their best to try to slow the spread. If you live between Taylorsville and Horse Peak, you may be in danger. Residents in this area are advised to go to special shelters that have been set up in Lincoln City. The Rock Couty Fire Department has joined the Riverside Fire Department in fighting the fire, and it is expected to be under control by tomorrow morning.
