“This material is called xiangyunsha,” said Song Fei, while she introduced a traditional cheongsam (旗袍) to customers in a flagship shop. “Dyed with pure plant extracts (提取物) and unpolluted river mud, the time-honored silk cloth is named ‘soft gold’ in the textile (纺织的) industry.”
To everyone’s surprise, the knowledgeable Song, who has unbelievable insights into cheongsam, a body-hugging one-piece Chinese dress for women, has practiced law for 10 years in Chengdu City. In 2017, she traveled to Suzhou to learn design and handicrafts skills of cheongsam and traditional costumes, becoming a cheongsam designer.
At first, Song’s family and friends were not optimistic about her choice to switch from a distinguished career to an artistic field. Knowing little about clothing, Song met with a huge challenge. “The pain was unthinkable, but since I had chosen that profession, I had to stick to it. I want a career that I truly enjoy,” said Song.
Song returned to Chengdu with new skills and creative passion in 2019 and founded her design brand. “To be honest, compared with my previous job, this one is harder and leaves me with much greater financial pressure. But my sense of satisfaction is beyond comparison when my works are recognized and appreciated,” said Song.
“Traditional cheongsams are one-piece tailored dresses of Chinese origin that require making with natural materials by hand. However, modern cheongsam are often made with artificial materials and produced by machine,” Song said. “In the face of rapid social and economic changes, traditional cheongsam are receiving less attention due to the popularity of mass-produced cheongsams.”
To save the beauty of traditional culture, Song wants to blend people’s daily lives with time-honored handicrafts, believing that traditional culture should not be the zone of museums. She aims to pass on traditional Chinese culture, which is a meaningful type of work with social responsibilities.
24.Where did Song probably work in the past?
A.In a design room for costumes. B.At an office of legal affairs.
C.In a museum of traditional culture.
D.At a flagship shop of cheongsams.
25.What made Song change her job?
A.Great financial pressure.
B.Persuasion from family and friends.
C.Unthinkable pain from the former job. D.Love for traditional costumes.
26.What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.The future development of cheongsams.
B.The main producing process of cheongsams.
C.The difference between traditional and modern cheongsams.
D.The original materials of traditional and modern cheongsams.
27.What does the underlined word “blend” in Paragraph 6 mean?
A.Combine. B.Present.
C.Compare. D.Exchange.
C
We all need to eat, and when we go to buy food at the supermarket, we have so many choices in the range of items available that can be turned into a delicious meal. But we often purchase food that’s been mass-produced and that’s travelled many miles before it ends up on our plate. So for some, growing their own food is a better option — and it tastes good too!
From growing vegetables in little pots on your balcony to tending to a small plot of land, called allotments, there are many ways to produce home-grown food. Allotments are a typically British idea, and they give people with a small or no garden, a space to plant and grow fruit and vegetables. It can be backbreaking work digging, weeding and watering the soil, but the result is fresh, organically grown produce, contributing to our “five-a-day” diet.
The recent COVID-19 pandemic lockdown (封锁) means demand for allotments has seen a renaissance. Miriam Dobson from the University of Sheffield told the BBC that people with allotments have been spending a lot of their time on their plots, growing plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, which, at times, have been challenging to source in supermarkets. She says, “Coronavirus has highlighted to people the weakness inherent within our globalized food system. In a time of crisis, interest in self-supply rises.”
But for those with limited space, a solution to growing your own veg lies closer to home — using pots. Once you can lay your hands on some compost (堆肥), you can plant seeds. As well as the benefits of saving money and enjoying tasty food, gardener Mark Ridsdill-Smith says, “growing your own from a balcony not only improves your wellbeing and immediate environment, you can actually grow a lot of vegetables”. So, it’s time for us all to get planting and develop our green fingers!
28.What does the author think of allotments?
A.Rewarding. B.Challenging.
C.Amusing. D.Relaxing.
29.What can be inferred from Paragraph 3?
A.Demand for allotments has declined during COVID-19 outbreak.
B.The strength of globalized food system is undervalued.
C.People tend to supply themselves at special periods.
D.Fresh fruit and vegetables are impossible to get in a time of crisis.
30.What is the purpose of the last paragraph of the text?
A.To encourage more people to grow their own food.
B.To present the strengths and weaknesses of allotments.
C.To raise people’s concern for environment.
D.To show the optional locations for allotments.
31.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Doing Our Share in Crisis.
B.Supplying Ourselves with Allotments.
C.Making Fortunes by Producing Home-grown Food.
D.Finding Our Own Ways to Plant Food.

China launched its first independent Mars mission from the Wenchang Space Launch Center, marking the start of the nation’s planetary exploration program.
After some time of self check, the launch started at 12:41 pm. 10 engines at the bottom of the Long March 5 carrier rocket’s first core stage and four rocket boosters roared to life, lifting the huge vehicle and the Tianwen 1 robotic probe(探测器)into a bright blue sky dotted with white clouds.
The 57-meter rocket, the strongest and most technologically complex in China’s launch vehicle family, flew for more than half an hour before placing the spaceship on an Earth-Mars track. The flight set a speed record as it went beyond the escape speed of 11.2 kilometers per second. If everything goes according to schedule, the 5-metric ton Tianwen 1, which consists of two major parts—an orbiter and a landing capsule—will travel more than 400 million kilometers over nearly seven months before getting captured by the Martian gravitational field.
After the probe enters Mars orbit, the Tianwen 1 will circle around the planet for two to three months to investigate the landing capsule’s present landing site before declining to release the landing capsule, which will gradually drop through the Martian atmosphere. During the entry, declining and landing process, the capsule will first use a heat barrier to slow down and then unfold a parachute(降落伞)to further reduce the speed and drop its heat barrier. In the next step, it will light rockets to hold its position.
When the craft reaches about 100 meters above the surface, it will spend some time observing and analyzing the selected landing point to check for obstacles like rocks. With a positive result, the lander will continue going down until it touches down steadily on Martian
soil. Experts have nicknamed the entire landing operation, expected to take about seven minutes, “the riskiest moment” of the Mars mission.
Meanwhile, the orbiter will continue circling the red planet for mapping and measurement tasks and some other scientific researches.
32.What do we know about the carrier rocket?
A.Its maximum speed was about 11.2 kilometers per second.
B.It would carry Tianwen 1 robotic probe to the Mars.
C.It was made up of an orbiter and a landing capsule.
D.It was the most advanced rocket ever made in China.
33.Why will the probe stay in Mars orbit for months before landing?
A.To collect more energy. B.To do some self check.
C.To gather more data. D.To make other researches.
34.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.The landing capsule. B.The heat barrier.
C.The parachute. D.The Tianwen 1.
35.Which of the following process is the most dangerous?
A.Lifting from the Earth. B.Declining to the Mars.
C.Journey to the Mars. D.Landing on the Mars.
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Sending your children on a flight by themselves can seem like a troublesome experience, but millions of children fly alone safely each year. Children between the ages of 5 and 14 who travel by air without a guardian (监护人) are known as unaccompanied minors (UMs).
36
Keep flight arrangements as simple as possible. Some airlines will not allow a UM to travel on connecting flights. Most airlines that do allow a UM to travel on a connecting flight will charge a fee. 37 Even so, it isn’t an ideal situation. A nonstop flight will be the best choice.
38 Most airlines consider a child of 12 or over to be a young adult, and don’t assist the child on the flight unless you specifically request the assistance and pay the fee. If you don’t make such arrangements, the airline expects your child to be responsible for making their own plans when a flight is canceled, delayed, or redirected.
Arrange for your child's meals. If food will be served during the flight, reserve a meal for your child, especially if your child has special needs. If there is no meal service, be sure to pack a meal for your child. 39
Request e-tickets. Having electronic tickets stored in the airline’s computer means your child won’t have to worry about losing a paper ticket. 40 Therefore, reserve e-tickets for your child.
A.It will help make the trip for your child trouble-free.
B.If possible, arrange for your child to fly in the morning.
C.Make sure your food and drinks meet the airline’s rules.
D.Try to book a nonstop flight, or a direct “through” flight.
E.The airline staff will assist your child in changing planes.
F.Be very clear about the airline carrier’s policy on young adult passengers.
G.Take the time to prepare for your children so that their trip will be safe and enjoyable.

Hello, everyone. Today I’d like to introduce one of my favorite writers to you.
Mo Yan is one of my favorite writers, who was the first Chinese writer to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012. Mo Yan showed in his early years a talent for literature and has made great contributions to the development of Chinese literature.
He has written many novels about life in China in the 1900s, among which I like his Red Sorghum best, because it not only shows the vivid rural life in China, but also has been made into a film with the same name. I hope all of you can read this book in your spare time.
That’s all. Thank you for your listening.

M: Do you know why I love Sundays, Mom?
W: Sure, Jerry. You don’t go to school today.
M : That’s true, but I don’t go to school on Saturdays either.
W: Then don’t tell me there are sports on TV all day. (6)
M: You’re so right. (6) No one knows me better, Mom.
W: Oh, come on. Don’t even think about it. You’ve promised to clean your room today. (7)

W: No way before you finish the cleaning. (7)
Text 7
M: Here, Molly. I’d like you to have this dictionary. I don’t use it anymore now that I am fluent. (8)
W: Thank you, Richard. Um…a Spanish dictionary? (8)
M: Yes. I think you can use it when you study abroad in Spain next semester.
W: Oh, Richard, my plans have changed. I was hoping to study in Spain. But
the program is one year long, and I prefer a six-month program. So I had to choose France. (9)
M: Molly, you’ll love France! Well, I guess I will keep my dictionary. The truth is that you never
stop learning a language, even when you think you have mastered it.
W: How did you ever learn Spanish? I failed in Italian last semester. So I’m worried
that I will never understand French.
M: When I went on my first international trip to Spain, I was also very worried.
But the best way to learn is by exposing yourself to the culture and the language. (10)
W: Thank you for your advice. I’m looking forward to my trip to France.
M: Once you’re there, you’ll have too much fun to get nervous.
Text 8
W: It’s so hot, Andrew. Where can I buy some water?
M: Look! There is a self-service store there.
W: I got into trouble there last time. Let’s find a convenience store instead. (13)
M: Really? Self-service supermarkets are becoming popular now. You can go shopping without asking for help from the salesperson. It’s really convenient as far as I know. (11) What happened?
W: Of course it is not that simple. As a new user, I had to sign in first. That was a waste of time. (12) What’s worse, customers are asked for their phone number. It’s possible for them to receive advertisement messages or calls, because their shopping data is collected.
M: Anyway, you don’t need to sign in this time.
W: Worse still, nobody offered help when I had problems. I was at sea with the functions of the product. If I had
been in the convenience store, the salesperson would have given me a hand immediately. (13)
M: OK. Let’s go along the street to see if we can find one. (13)
Text 9
W: What are you going to do in the winter holiday?
M: I’m planning a journey to Palau.
W: Palau? Where is it?
M: It is an island country between Australia and Japan. (14) It is famous for plenty of sea animals. Although it has
a population of no more than 30,000, it makes 300 million dollars every year, 50% of which comes from the
tourist industry. (15)
W: That’s amazing. So you plan to go to the beach. Don’t forget to take some sun cream.
M: Well, I hope I could, but it is not allowed at the beach there. According to the data,
sun cream does more harm to sea animals than the greenhouse effect. (16)
W: Are you serious? Is sun cream more harmful than global warming?
M: Pretty sure. America is going to put forward similar policies in Hawaii in January, 2021. (17)
Text 10
Christmas is coming along and with it comes the doubt whether it is environmentally friendlier to have a natural tree or buy a plastic one.
Maybe you should choose a natural Christmas tree. (18) The carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases produced by human beings when they make a product or do their daily activities. A natural tree that is burnt as firewood has a 3.5kg CO 2 carbon footprint. The carbon footprint of a plastic tree is much bigger, reaching 40kg of CO 2 . (19) Although it can be used for at least 12 years, transporting a plastic tree from faraway countries raises the carbon footprint. Besides, a natural tree is harmless after it is got rid of, but plastic trees produce much more CO 2 in their recycling process.
But what points should we consider if we choose a natural Christmas tree? We must be sure that they come from a nursery garden. Refuse those uncontrollably cut down in the forest. (18) Most of the nursery gardens have their collection service. This aspect is important as we make sure that they will end up being
recycled or transplanted. (20)
