    A
Ten fitness exercises you can do at home
    Walking
An effective walking workout at home will help to strengthen your legs, while getting some low impact aerobic exercise as well. If you don’t have any stairs available, just walk around the house a few times —it may not be very exciting, but it will do the job!
    Jumping jacks
These are always fun, as they bring back memories of being a kid! Who hasn’t done jumping jacks for fun as a child? Well, surprise —they are also great cardio exercises, and good for warming up, too.
    Push-ups
These are probably not the most favorite exercise of many people, but while they can be hard to do, you can find easier ways to do them. You don’t need to pretend you’re “Rocky”, and do them with one hand: just do what works for you. Do them on your knees, instead of keeping your legs straight. Or, do them by standing up against a wall. You will build up arm strength and work out muscles in your chest area.
    Leg lifts
These are great for building up strength and muscles in your legs. If you find it hard to do the exercises with your legs straight, try bending them slightly.
    Crunches
It’s the best exercise for building up and strengthening belly muscles. When you’re just getting started, don’t worry about getting your head all the way up. So long as you’re going up until you feel the stretching of the muscles, you will see some benefit.
    Jogging in place
Jogging is a great exercise for your heart. You can jog in place at home while watching TV or listening to music. The only equipment you will require is a good pair of shoes, to eliminate any stress to your legs.
    Squats
These are wonderful exercises for your legs and bottoms. You can even just try these by sitting and standing up again from a regular chair, if you’re finding them to be too difficult. As long as you’re able to do a few repetitions, you will provide some benefit to your body.
    Dancing
Dancing is a wonderful exercise, which is great for your heart. Not only that, but it can lift your spirits as well, and give your overall feeling a boost.
1.Which column does this article belong to if in the newspaper?
    A.Health. B.Entertainment. C.Travel. D.Advertisement.

Jessica Long, from Baltimore, Maryland, USA is a champion by all definitions of the word. She is one of the world’s most decorated swimmers. Jessica was the youngest athlete to win a Paralympics (残奥会) medal. But her path to becoming a champion has been anything but easy.
Jessica was born in Irkutsk, Russia with a severe and rare disease — fibular hemimelia This means that part of her leg bones was missing or abnormal. Because of that, her young mother placed her in a Russian orphanage (孤儿院), fearing she could not care for Jessica.
Fortunately, she was adopted by an American family when she was 13 months old. She required 25 different surgeries to help her leg condition. But unfortunately, both of her legs had to be removed when she was just 18 months old. Jessica learned to walk with artificial legs. As a child, she took to sports including gymnastics, cheerleading, ice skating, biking and rock climbing.
She began swimming at her grandparents’ house when she was 6. She started competitive swimming about 4 years later. She did really well in swimming. Shortly after she started competing, Jessica was selected as Maryland’s Female Swimmer of the Year with a Disability. Even though Jessica was annoyed with her physical limitations, she was encouraged to enter her first Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece. She won three gold medals in swimming at 12! But she did not rest on her success.
Jessica has gone on to win 23 medals for Team USA at the Paralympics! While she began her career out of anger and annoyance, she now has a positive force on a mission to inspire the next generation of Paralympians! Her attitude and growth have been keys to her success. Jessica always believed she could do anything. As she says, “The only disability in life is a negative attitude.”

In 2002, Huang Hui, a researcher of the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, went diving near Xisha. In addition to getting an irremovable suntan (晒黑), she was left with memories of a beautiful experience with clear water and abundant colorful corals (珊瑚). However, much of the breathtaking scenery of this reef has disappeared due to climate change and human activities. All of these factors led to the decline of the coral reef in the near shore waters. “We started to cultivate corals near the Xisha Islands in 2010, and restored more than 200,000 square meters of coral reefs,” Huang said.
In 2004, when Huang was attending the 10th International Coral Reef Symposium, she found herself the only representative from the Chinese mainland. She said she felt sad but she made up her mind to strengthen communication with other countries to improve China’s level and status in coral research. She visited top coral research institutes in the US and Australia, establishing long-term cooperation with some of the world’s top coral researchers. By far, Huang has worked on coral research and protection for 22 years. Now, China is in a leading position in terms of technology and coral planting scale.
Huang believes that people’s consciousness of coral protection matters most to the sustainable development of the coral reefs. “I want to call on more people to love nature and look at the ocean in awe,” Huang said.
Partly due to her efforts, Hainan Province released a law in 2017 banning reef exploitation (开发), trading and damaging.
Huang works as a consultant for customs and frontier police on coral protection and promotes coral protection in her local schools. Huang also provides online free training for divers to teach them proper behavior in the sea to protect coral reefs.
“A group of ‘folk scientists’ have also been trained with the hope that more people can gain awareness of the significance of coral reef protection and know how to protect them,” said Huang.
“I am 50, and when I become 60, I hope that not only a coral island will be built but a sustainable development pattern will also be created,” said Huang. “The ideal state is that the coral island should be able to support fishermen and preserve the ecosystem,” she added.
8.What impressed Huang most when going diving near Xisha in 2002?
A.A permanent sunburn on her skin.

As Ginni Bazlinton reached Antarctica, she found herself greeted by a group of little Gentoo penguins (企鹅) longing to say hello. These gentle, lovely gatekeepers welcomed her and kick-started what was to be a trip Ginni would never forget.
Ever since her childhood, Ginni, now 71, has had a deep love for travel. Throughout her career (职业) as a professional dancer, she toured in the UK, but always longed to explore further. When she retired from dancing and her sons eventually flew the nest, she decided it was time to take the plunge.

And I wanted to do it alone as I always prefer it that way.”
In March 2008, Ginni boarded a ship with 48 passengers she’d never met before, to begin the journey towards Antarctica. “From seeing the wildlife to witnessing sunrises, the whole experience was amazing. Antarctica left an impression on me that no other place has,” Ginni says. “I remember the first time I saw a humpback whale; it just rose out of the water like some prehistoric creature and I thought it was smiling at us. You could still hear the operatic sounds it was making underwater.”
The realization that this is a precious land, to be respected by humans, was one of the biggest things that hit home to Ginni.

G选项“Thus the center worked together with locals to find a creative way to keep the animals warm (因此,该中心与当地人合作,找到了一种创造性的方法来保持动物的温暖)”承接上文,表明保护中心针对动物园大象“缺衣”的困境,找出解决办法,保护大象。故选G。
17.根据下文“It has been taking action against animal cruelty and saving wildlife in trouble since 1995. (自1995年以来,它一直在采取行动反对虐待动物,拯救困境中的野生动物。)”可知,该处应该是介绍一个致力于拯救保护动物的机构。而A选项“Wildlife SOS is a conservation group (野生动物SOS是一个动物保护组织)”符合上下句文意连贯。故选A。
18.根据后文“and the center hopes to take in 50 more of the creatures. (保护中心希望能再接纳50头大象)”可知,空格处应介绍目前保护中心内的大象数量,D选项“There are 20 elephants living at the center at present (目前有20头大象生活在该中心)”符合上下文连贯。故选D。
19.根据后文“so they easily fall ill in cold temperatures. (所以它们很容易在低温下得病)”可知,空格处应表明大象容易生病的原因,且由空格后句中的指代上文代词they可知,空格处应出现复数名词“大象”。F选项“Most of the elephants housed at the center are in poor health (保护和护理中心的大多数大象健康状况不佳)”符合上下文因果逻辑。故选F项。
20.根据后文“each one takes about four weeks to create with volunteers working together. (每一件都需要志愿者们共同努力,花费数周完成)”可知,编织帮助大象御寒的毛衣相当耗时耗力。B选项“Making the sweaters is a large task (制作毛衣是个宏大的任务)”符合上下文语义连贯。

    School Labor Day
Aiming to exercise our bodies and further improve our awareness about labor, recently our school held the 10th “School Labor Day”. The process of the activity is as follows.
To start with, we were divided into groups to pick up the rubbish at the corners of the school, which was often ignored. After getting rid of the weeds in the school garden, we planted some flowers and trees. Besides, we cleaned the classrooms inside and outside. Finally, we ended up singing the song of labor.
Tired though we were, we came to realize that the activity not only beautified our school, but also tempered our mind and cultivated our spirit of bearing hardships and standing hard work.

After reading the diary, the son was filled with tears and began to reflect on the days when he used to sit together with his father. His father would patiently answer the same question all 23 times without feeling irritated while his father asked him the same question just four times! The son thought to himself: If I attain old age, how will my son look at me? Will he think of me as a burden.’? Will he shout at me because of my poor sight, poor bearing or poor understanding?
    Paragraph 2:
Feeling ashamed, the son got down on his knees before his father. He made an apology to his father, begging his father to forgive him for his bad behavior. He said this aloud, “I promise to see you happy forever, Dad. It is you who have cared for me since I was a little child, showering your selfless affection on me. You worked hard to make money so that I could afford to go to university. I will serve you in the best way no matter how you behave.”
