Though many people think of summer as a time to slow down and enjoy a vacation, it can also be the perfect time to make money or get experience. Here are some good summer jobs for you.
Survey-taking
Survey-taking is a way to make money during your summer holiday, especially if you live in an area that doesn’t have many chances. With a computer or smartphone, you can sit on your sofa and search for survey sites such as Surveys On The Go, InboxDollars or Swagbucks. Without much effort, you can start making money for your opinions. However, the ease of use comes with a low earning potential.
Food Delivery(递送)
If you enjoy driving, you can use your car to deliver food. You can sign up to deliver food from restaurants with services such as Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub. Another choice is delivering daily used goods with services such as Postmates, Shipt and Instacart. The earning potential for delivery can be higher than for other jobs because customers often give tips. The disadvantage is that these jobs require you to put in more time.
Photo Applications
If you go to the mall, you can use an app such as Field Agent or Gigwalk to make money by taking pictures of products in stores. See any help-wanted signs in the store windows? Take a picture and get paid for each one you find.
House Sitting and Pet Care
Summer is a time when people take vacations and may need someone to look after their homes or pets. Services such as HouseSitter and MindMyHouse connect homeowners with proper house sitters(看房人). For animal lovers who would rather care for someone’s pet while they are away, you can turn to services like Rover.
1. What do we know about making money through Survey-Taking?
A. It’s interesting. B. It requires little effort.
C. It takes much time. D. It requires special knowledge.
2. Why is the earning potential for Food Delivery higher than for other jobs?
A. You can get some extra reward.
B. You work longer hours.
C. You need to drive your own car.
D. You deliver food for many people.
3. Which app should you use if you enjoy looking after animals?
A. Swagbucks. B. Uber Eats. C. HouseSitter. D. Rover.

At thirteen, I was diagnosed with a kind of attention disorder. It made school difficult for me. When everyone else in the class was focusing on tasks, I could not.
In my first literature class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write about it, all within 45 minutes. I raised my hand right away and said, “Mrs. Smith, you see, the doctor said I have attention problems. I might not be able to do it.
She glanced down at me through her glasses, “You are not different from your classmates, young man.”
I tried, but I didn’t finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to take it home.
In the quietness of my bedroom, the story suddenly all became clear to me. It was about a blind person, Louis Braille. He lived in a time when the blind couldn’t get much education. But Louis didn’t give up. Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots, which opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind.
Wasn’t I the “blind” one in my class, being made to learn like the “sighted” students? My thoughts flowed and my pen started to dance. I completed the task within 40 minutes. Indeed, I was not different from others; I just needed a quieter place. Now that Louis could find his way out of his problems, why should I ever give up? I didn’t expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, so it was quite a surprise when it came back to me the next day —with an “A” on it. At the bottom of the paper were these words: “See what you can do when you keep tying.”
4. Why did the author fail to finish class reading?
A. He had poor reading skills. B. He was tired of literature.
C. He had an attention disorder. D. He wanted to take the task home.
5. What do we know about Louis Braille from the text?
A. He was poor. B. He was very creative.
C. He was near-sighted. D. He was well-educated.
6. What was Mrs. Smith’s attitude to the author at the end of the story?
A. Angry. B. Impatient. C. Supportive. D. Negative.
7. What does the text mainly want to tell us?
A. The blind should be treated with respect.
B. Teachers can open up a new world to students.
C. Everyone needs a hand when faced with challenges.
D. One can find his way out of difficulties with efforts.
C 5. B 6. C 7. D

根据第五段最后一句“Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots, which opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind.(相反,他发明了一种凸起点的阅读系统,为盲人打开了一个全新的知识世界)”可知,他为盲人发明出一种方法进行阅读,他是有创造力的。
根据最后一段“I didn’t expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, so it was quite a surprise when it came back to me the next day with an “A” on it. The arts, especially music, should be part of every school’s lessons at every grade level. Students would be much smarter if they had some musical experience. They could improve their classroom skills, like paying attention and following directions. People develop all these skills when they learn music. Making music also lets children use their imagination. It provides students with a chance to try out their own ideas.
Music not only makes children better students, but also gives them something positive (积极的) to do. In a music program, children can be part of a band. Parents can enjoy listening to their children’s music instead of seeing them glued to a computer or TV screen. In a school band, students get to be part of a team. They can get along well with old friends and make new friends through music.
Music builds self-confidence, too. It gives children a sense of achievement and success. Making music is something for them to be proud of, and it lets kids practice performing in front of audiences. Music gives children an opportunity for self-ex pression, and that helps develop their self-confidence. Once again, music is important because it can make children better students, give them something positive to do, and build their characters. That is why music should be offered in every single grade in every school.
8. How could music make students smarter?
A. By improving their memory and attention.

Note-taking is a skill that can help you do well in all your schoolwork—everything from taking tests to researching a paper. But unfortunately, most schools don’t have classes that teach you how to take notes. So here are some tips.
Write down key facts. If you have a teacher who writes notes on the board, that’s good: You can copy them down. If not, write down the most important points from class. Does your history teacher mention the date of a key Civil War battle? Does your English teacher give examples of Shakespeare’s use of irony(讽刺)? Write them down!
Different teachers do things differently. For example, some teachers may mention lots of dates and facts in class but only write the key ones on the board. Other teachers may not write anything down, but they may repeat a certain date or a piece of information. After a while, you’ll get to know a teacher’s style.
Don’t overdo it. Don’t go crazy taking notes. You’ll be frantic(慌乱的) if you try to write down every word that’s said in class. And if you focus too much on getting your notes right, you might miss important points. Some people actually learn better by listening, writing down a few key points, and then going over the material after class.
Ask. Don’t be afraid to ask the teacher to repeat something you miss. If the teacher is going too fast, your classmates will also be happy to hear the information again. If you don’t want to ask in class, see your teacher afterwards. It’s much easier than wondering if you got the notes right as you study.
Compare. Keep your notes handy when you’re doing your reading homework. Compare what you wrote with what the reading says—you may even want to add to your notes as you read.
12. What’s an advantage of note-taking according to the writer?
A. It helps you to get good marks in tests. B. It’s a basic skill in researching a paper.
C. It helps fix your mind on what the teacher says. D. It gives you a better understanding of key facts.
13. Why is Shakespeare mentioned in the passage?
A. To introduce the topic of note-taking. B. To compare writing styles in different times.
C. To give an example of forming good habits. D. To explain what a key fact is in a teacher’s class.
14. What is suggested in the third paragraph?
A. Teachers encourage their students to be active in class.
B. It’s helpful for teachers to learn from each other in styles.
C. It’s not always possible to note down all information in class.
D. A teacher’s style should be taken into consideration when taking notes.
15. What’s the writer’s opinion according to the passage?
A. Students must try to take correct and detailed notes in class.
B. Students should put down only key points while listening carefully.
C. Students must not interrupt the teacher by asking questions in class.
D. Students should put down as much information as possible in class.
A 13. D 14. D 15. B

根据第二段第二句和第三句“If you have a teacher who writes notes on the board, that’s good: You can copy them down. If not, write down the most important points from class.”
根据第三段“Different teachers do things differently…After a while, you’ll get to know a teacher’s style.”
根据第四段最后两句“And if you focus too much on getting your notes right, you might miss important points. Some people actually learn better by listening, writing down a few key points, and then going over the material after class.”
