Reading can make you feel less alone and more connected with the world at large. It can open your

are the top books all teens should read before they turn 18.
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle

discovers what it’s like to long for normalcy and also that difference can be the most meaningful teacher.
Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson

the South as an African-American in the 1960s and 1970s. The poems are charged with the themes of self-
awareness and identity.

B
I was sitting at my kitchen table the other day with a pen, notebook, calculator and a pile of bills. I
was doing my monthly budget. There were bills for electric water, rent, insurance, the car payment, the
phone bill, and the cable bill. Plus money needed to be set aside for food, gas, clothes and hopefully a little
left over to save for those unexpected bills that always seemed to show up. When I was done, I shook my
head, closed my eyes and thought of a time long ago when I would regularly get treasures.
When I was a boy, we lived across the road from Camp Caesar. It held week long camps all through
the summer and my grandma who I lovingly called “Nanny” worked in her big kitchen. I remember
slipping there getting a smile, a hug, a kiss and a hot roll from Nanny. Then she would always take deep
in her pockets and pull out a treasure, a shiny quarter. She would give it to me and I would run down the
hill to either get an ice cold can of coke from the pop machine or I would head to the camp’s swimming
pool where I could buy a warm cup of cherry coke for 15 cents and a tiny 10 cent bag of chips from a
stand. I took my time because it was always a big decision. It was nice too feeling so rich for a few minutes.
Looking back now I can see that the real treasure was not the quarter at all. It was the love with which
Nanny gave it to me. I would have still visited her at work every day if I had never gotten a single quarter.
It was her smile, hugs, and kisses that were priceless in my heart then and now.
The old saying is true, “With your work you can make a living, but it is with your love that you make
a life.” You can always welcome love into your heart, soul and mind. And you can always share your love
with others. It is that one treasure that lasts forever.
24. According to Paragraph 1, what was the author trying to figure out?
A.How to balance the money available. B.How to sort out these bills at hand.
C.What food and supplies to buy. D.Where to get treasures.
25. What does the underlined word “roll” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.A sound. B.A greeting.
C.A kind of bread D.A kind of act.
26. Which of the following best describes Nanny?
A.Enthusiastic. B.Affectionate. C.Generous. D.Considerate.
27. Why does the author mention the old saying in the last Paragraph?
A.To explain work and love can make a life.
B.To advise more love and sharing in childhood.
C.To change people’s heart and soul.
D.To show what we should value in life.
C
More than 10 million Chinese cultural relics have been lost overseas, lots of which were stolen and
illegally shipped out of China during the times of war before 1949. About 1. 67 million pieces are housed
in no more than 200 museums in 47 countries, which accounts for 10 percent of all lost Chinese cultural
relics, and the rest are in the hands of private collectors.
Most of these treasures are owned by museums or private collectors in the United States, Europe,
Japan and Southeast Asian countries. There are more than 23,000 pieces in the British Museum, most of
which were stolen or bought for pennies more than 100 years ago.
The major method to recover these national treasures was to buy them back. In some cases, private
collectors donated the relics to the government. Also the government can turn to official channels to demand
the return of relics.
In 2003, a priceless bronze pig's head dating from the Qing Dynasty was returned to its home in Beijing
after it was removed by the Anglo-French Allied Army over 140 years ago. Macao entrepreneur(企业家)
Stanley Ho donated 6 million yuan to buy it back from a US art collector and then donated it to the Poly
Art Museum in Beijing.
Although buying-back is the most feasible way to recover the lost treasures, limited funding is always
a big headache.
In recent years, the Chinese government has improved efforts to recover the precious cultural relics
lost overseas. It has started a national project on the recovery of the treasures and has set up a database(数
据库) collecting relevant information. It has signed several international agreements with many countries
on this matter, and is also looking for international cooperation to recover the relics by working closely
with several international organizations.
28.What is the passage mainly about?
A. Chinese cultural relics were stolen by the Anglo-French Allied Army.
B. Stanley Ho donated a bronze pig s head to Beijing.
C. The efforts to recover Chinese cultural relics.
D. The ways to recover cultural relics.
29.We can infer from the passage that _______.
A. Many countries have returned the lost cultural relics to China for free.
B. China is preparing to set up a database to collect information about the lost cultural relics.
C. China has enough money to buy all the cultural relics back.
D. The Chinese government has done a lot to recover the lost cultural relics.
30.Which of the following statements about the bronze pig's head is NOT true?
A. It is now in the Poly Art Museum in Beijing.
B. It was made in the Qing Dynasty.
C. It was removed by the Anglo-French Allied Army over 140 years ago.
D. It was donated by the French government to Qiina,
31.The underlined word "feasible" in Paragraph 5 can be replaced by "_______".
A. difficult
B. possible
C. careful
D. wonderful

As the coronavirus pandemic spread out, the demand for smell training therapy stepped up, as
potentially millions of those who had COVID-19 experienced losing their sense of smell.
Unlike some other viruses that can cause the loss of smell by directly infecting cells involved in
detecting smell, the virus that causes COVID-19 spares them. Instead, the coronavirus infects surrounding
support cells. To defend the body against the virus, immune cells rush to this site of infection and generate
antiviral proteins, which then lead to the loss.
Approximately 80% of COVID-19 patients who had lost their sense of smell regained it without any
treatment within one to four weeks. But as three months went by, patient Chris Rogers’ situation barely
improved, so he started to seek out smell training therapy.
Twice a day for 10 weeks, Rogers sniffed four kinds of essential oils — rose, lemon, eucalyptus, and
clove — to potentially strengthen the survival of newly formed smell-detecting cells or speed up their
production and rebuild the connection between his nose and brain. To assess whether this smell therapy
was effective, the doctor asked Rogers to distinguish between a number of additional smells before and
after the smell training. Rogers did the therapy for 10 weeks and started noticing improvements at week
six. At least five months since the smell training ended, the improvements can be more like 75%.
While scientists have recorded improvements in some individuals’ ability to smell, it has been
difficult to show how much of that improvement comes from the therapy itself or natural recovery
occurring over time, said Eric Holbrook, a doctor at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospital. “But I continue
to recommend the therapy because such training could speed up the healing process. Also, it’s one of very
few and often the only therapeutic options that’s available to millions of COVID-19 patients who haven’t
been able to regain their sense of smell for months,” Eric Holbrook added.
Although the benefits of smell training can vary considerably among patients, depending on their
starting point, “it is generally not considered harmful,” says Bradley Goldstein, a specialist studying at
Duke University. “But we still need to find specific, more effective drug therapies. It’s really an unmet
need.”
32. Why did the doctor ask Rogers to identify additional smells before and after the treatment?
A. To rebuild the connection between Rogers’ nose and brain.
B. To make Rogers remember the smell of common oil.
C. To improve the sensitivity of Rogers’ sense of smell.
D. To estimate the effectiveness of smell training.
33. Which word best describes Eric Holbrook’s attitude to smell training therapy?
A. Ambiguous. B. Disapproving.
C. Favorable. D. Indifferent.
34. What does Bradley Goldstein suggest?
A. Developing better drug therapies for patients.
B. Encouraging patients to recover naturally.
C. Providing long-term health guidance for patients
D. Conducting the smell training on a large scale.
35. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. Main symptoms of coronavirus infection.
B. Smell training therapy for COVID-19.
C. The ways of restoring the sense of smell.
D. The significance of smell training therapy. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)

At noon that day, I drove back to my house after the performance. Just as I entered the living room, I
heard a gentle sound coming from the bedroom upstairs--it was the sound of my favorite violin.
“Thief!”
I rushed upstairs. Sure enough, as expected, a boy of about 11 years old was petting my violin. The
boy had messy hair and a thin face, his over-sized coat seemingly filled with something. At first glance, I
found a new pair of shoes missing. It seemed that he was surely a thief.
Then, I saw his eyes full of fear and despair. My anger was immediately replaced by a smile. I asked,
“Are you Mr. Tom’s nephew, Michael? I’m his housekeeper. Two days ago, I heard his nephew living in
the countryside will come. It must be you. You’re really like him!”
On hearing my words, the boy was first astonished, but then quickly said, “Has my uncle gone out? I
think I’d better first go out for a walk and visit him again in a little while.”
I nodded and asked the boy who was preparing to put down the violin, “Do you like to play the violin
so much?”
“Yes, but I’m so poor that I can’t afford it.” the boy replied.
“Then, I can give this violin to you.” The boy looked at me questioningly, but he picked up the violin.
Going out to the living room, he suddenly saw on the wall my huge color photo in which I performed in
the Sydney Opera House. He involuntarily trembled for a moment and ran out without looking back.
I was sure that the boy had understood what happened, because no one would decorate the living room
with the housekeeper’s photo.
A few years later, I was invited to be a judge at a music competition of senior high school students.
Fascinated by the gentle sound of one participant, I was wholeheartedly impressed by his wonderful
performance and solid strength. As I flicked my eyes up to glance at the performer, I was so astonished to
see a thin face, so familiar, yet now lit up with joy and confidence. The “thief”! For an instant, I was
amazed that the kindness I offered to cover the boy's misconduct would make such a big difference!
注意:1.续写词数应为 80 词左右;2.请按如下格式在以下位置作答。
After the competition, “Michael” ran to me, holding a violin box. _______________________________
