    Every year on my birthday, from the time I turned 12, a white gardenia was delivered to my house. No card came with it. Calls to the flower-shop were not helpful at all. After a while I stopped trying to discover the sender’s name and just delighted in the beautiful white flower in soft pink paper.
    But I never stopped imagining who the giver might be. Some of my happiest moments were spent daydreaming about the sender. My mother contributed to these imaginings. She’d ask me if there was someone for whom I had done special kindness. Perhaps it was the old man across the street whose mail I’d delivered during the winter. As a girl of seventeen, though, I had more fun imagining that it might be a boy whom I had met.
    One month before my graduation, my father died of a heart attack. I felt so sad that I became completely uninterested in my upcoming graduation party.
    The day before my father died, my mother and I had gone shopping for a party dress. We’d found an impressive one, but it was the wrong size. When my father died, I forgot about my dress.
    But my mother didn’t. The day before the party I found that dress—in the right size—over the living room sofa. I didn’t care whether I had a new dress or not. But my mother wanted me to have one. She wanted her children to feel loved and lovable. In truth, my mother wanted her children to see themselves much like the gardenia—lovely, strong and perfect with perhaps a bit of mystery. My mother died ten days after I was married. I was 22. That was the year the gardenia stopped coming.
    4. Why did the writer stopped trying to know who the sender was?
    A. In no way could she find the sender. B. The shop didn’t answer the phone.
    C. There was no card with the flower. D. She was only interested in the flower.
    5. Who do you think sent gardenia to the writer?
    A. Her father. B. Her mother. C. An old man. D. A boy.
    6. How many times did the writer receive a gardenia on her birthday?
    A. 12 times. B. 22 times. C. 10 times. D. 9 times.
    7. Which is probably the best title for this text?
    A. A Party Dress B. My Gardenia
    C. A Mysterious Boy D. The Death of My Parents
A 5. B 6. C 7. B

    In May 2020, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (BOCOG) solicited medal designs worldwide. Hang Hai and his team set about preparing designs to submit to the BOCOG.
    Medals reflect the culture and creativity of the host country, and the team set two basic principles for their design: First, it should continue to adopt the jade (玉) culture incorporated into the design of the Beijing 2008 medals to highlight Beijing’s status as the world’s first city to host both the Summer and Winter Games; second, it should be innovative.
    “The medals of both the Beijing 2008 and 2022 Games are to honor the athletes and the Olympic spirit with traditional jade culture,” said Hang. Jade was chosen because it has been treasured in China and symbolizes good virtue. “The difference is that the 2008 medals used the jade as a material, while the 2022 medals represent the spirit of China’s jade culture,” he added.
    In the process of designing the medals, one team member, Lin Fan, conducted extensive research into China’s ancient bi. Lin finally chose a five-ring one associated with Fu Hao — a Shang Dynasty queen—as the prototype (原型) for the medals. In the final design, the opposite side of the medals has the Olympic rings engraved in the center, surrounded by five big concentric (同心的) rings. Auspicious cloud patterns, as well as snowflakes and ice patterns are engraved between the circles. The cloud patterns are intended to maintain a cultural connection with the 2008 Games, while the snowflakes and ice patterns speak to the characteristics of the Winter Olympics.
    The cases holding the medals are made of bamboo. “The International Olympic Committee inquired about the growth and processing of the bamboo to ensure it meets the requirements of a green Olympics and follows the concept of sustainable (可持续的) development,” Hang said.
    The medals passed the quality test and were accepted by the Games’ organizing committee on January 7, 2022. The medals are officially named Tongxin and they are the result of many people’s efforts. However, the smile on the athletes’ faces as they wear them makes it all worthwhile.
    8. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
    A. The history of the Olympic medals.
    B. The inspiration for the 2008 medal patterns.
    C. The significance of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
    D. The essential requirements of the 2022 medal designs.
    9. How are the 2022 medals different from the 2008 medals?
    A. 2022 medals use the jade as a material.
    B 2022 medals reflect the spirit of China’s jade culture.
    C. 2022 medals mark an innovation in the medal designs.
    D. 2022 medals follow the concept of environmental protection.
    10. Why did the designers add cloud patterns to the 2022 medals?
    A. To strengthen the bond with the 2008 Games.
    B. To show the charm of Chinese traditional culture.
    C. To stand for harmony between human and nature.
    D. To match with the features of the Winter Olympics.
    11. What do we know about the cases holding the medals?
    A. They took a lot of time to process.
    B. They are decorated with a smiling pattern.
    C. Their materials were finally chosen by BOCOG.
    D. Their production spreads the idea of green Olympics.
D 9. B 10. A 11. D

    D
    More than half the world’s population live in cities, and by 2050 the UN expects that proportion to reach 68%. This means more homes, roads and other infrastructure. In India alone, a city the size of Chicago will have to be developed every year to meet demand for housing. Such a construction increase is a bad sign for dealing with climate change, because making steel and concrete, two of the most common building materials, generates around 8% of the world’s CO2 emissions (排放). If cities are to expand and become greener at the same time, they will have to be made from something else.
    Wood is one of the most promising sustainable (可持续的) alternatives to steel and concrete. It is not, however, everyday wood that is attracting the interest of architects.
    Rather, it is a material called engineered timber. This is a combination of different layers, each designed to meet the requirements of specific parts such as floors, panels and beams (横梁). Designers can use it to provide levels of strength like steel, in a product that is up to 80% lighter. In addition, engineered timber is usually made into large sections in a factory for future use, which reduces the number of deliveries to a construction site.
    According to Michael Ramage of the University of Cambridge, a wooden building produces 75% less CO2 than a steel and concrete one of the same size. However, if building with wood takes off, it does raise concern about there being enough trees to go round. But with sustainably managed forests that should not be a problem, says Dr Ramage. A family-sized apartment requires about 30 cubic metres of timber, and he estimates Europe’s sustainable forests alone grow that amount every seven seconds. Nor is fire a risk, for engineered timber does not burn easily. Besides, fireproofing layers can be added to the timber. All in all, then, it looks as if wood as a building material may get a new lease of life.
    12. Why is India mentioned in paragraph 1?
    A. To point out the severe pollution.
    B. To predict the population increase.
    C. To indicate the high degree of urbanization.
    D. To show the great need for building materials.
    13. What can be learned about engineered timber?
    A. It is produced at a low cost.
    B. It hardly appeals to architects.
    C. It helps save energy in transportation.
    D. It possesses greater strength than steel.
    14. What does the underlined phrase “takes off” in the last paragraph mean ?
    A. Becomes cheaper. B. Gains popularity.
    C. Requires less work. D. Proves sustainable.
    15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
    A. Making Future Cities More Attractive
    B. Living in a World with Less Emission
    C. Building Sustainable Cities with Woods
    D. Growing More Trees for Future Building
D 13. C 14. B 15. C
根据文章第一段第二和三句“This means more homes, roads and other infrastructure. In India alone, a city the size of Chicago will have to be developed every year to meet demand for housing.”(这意味着更多的房屋、道路和其他基础设施。
根据文章第三段最后一句“In addition, engineered timber is usually made into large sections in a factory for future use, which reduces the number of deliveries to a construction site.”(此外,工程木材通常在工厂生产成大块以备将来使用,这减少了交付到建筑工地的数量。)
根据文章第四段第一句和二句“According to Michael Ramage of the University of Cambridge, a wooden building produces 75% less CO2 than a steel and concrete one of the same size. However, if building with wood takes off, it does raise concern about there being enough trees to go round.”(根据剑桥大学的Michael Ramage的研究,同尺寸的钢筋混凝土建筑相比,木质建筑产生的二氧化碳要少75%。
根据文章第一段最后一句“If cities are to expand and become greener at the same time, they will have to be made from something else.”(如果城市要在扩张的同时变得更环保,它们就必须用其他东西来制造。)及最后一段最后一句“All in all, then, it looks as if wood as a building material may get a new lease of life.”(总之,作为一种建筑材料,木材似乎可以获得新生。)

,因此推断空中还是在说明北京胡同的重要,D选项“It is also the living space for the average people of Beijing.”
因此空中引出某个地方,B选项“Dashilan is one of the most worth visiting old Hutongs.”
F选项“Every day, hundreds of people flood into Dashilan to buy unique products.”

由此惊叹的味道和绚丽的色彩可以推断出这条街的多彩,E选项“Whether you like to study folk culture, window-shop, or taste snacks.”
如小题3中to buy unique products同空前一句中to buy things,两句中的buy就是关键词,相呼应。

In front of the museum is a glass pyramid designed by Bei Yuming. That makes Louvre famous is Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
    It is a pity that not all the collections are opened to the public, but Louvre is well worth paying a visit.
    【答案】1.more→most;
    2.for→as;
    3.museum→museums;
    4.them→which;
    5.dated→dates;
    6.去掉thousand后的of;
    7. including→included;
    8.That→What;
    9. opened→open;
    10.在visit后加to
    【解析】
    【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章对卢浮宫进行了介绍,并认为卢浮宫是值得一游的。
    【详解】1.考查副词最高级。句意:在所有的欧洲城市中,我最喜欢巴黎。根据“Among all the European cities”可知,此处是指三者或三者以上的比较,所以应用副词最高级。故将more改为most。
    2.考查固定搭配和介词。句意:巴黎被称为世界文化和时尚中心。此处指巴黎作为世界文化和时尚中心而闻名,be famous as意为“作为……而出名”,be famous for意为“因……而著名”。故将for改为as。
    3.考查名词复数。句意:在那里你会发现许多著名的博物馆,其中最有名的是卢浮宫。在many后应用可数名词复数。故将museum改为museums。
    4.考查定语从句。句意:在那里你会发现许多著名的博物馆,其中最有名的是卢浮宫。句子“You may find many famous museum there”和“the most famous of them is Louvre”之间需要用连词,此处可用定语从句修饰先行词many famous museums,关系词在定语从句中作介词of的宾语,所以应用关系代词which。故将them改为which。
    5.考查一般现在时。句意:卢浮宫的历史可以追溯到12世纪,它曾是一座皇家宫殿。此处描述客观事实,应用一般现在时。主语Louvre为第三人称单数。故将dated改为dates。
    6.考查数词和介词。句意:据说它收藏了大约40万件艺术品,包括绘画和雕塑。表示“数以千计的”应用thousands of,表示“40万件艺术品”应用400 thousand artworks,不能用介词of。故将thousand后的of去掉。
    7.考查形容词。句意:据说它收藏了大约40万件艺术品,包括绘画和雕塑。“paintings and sculptures”是包括在“400 thousand of artworks”里的,所以应用形容词included表示“被包括在内的”修饰“paintings and sculptures”作后置定语。故将including改为included。
    8.考查主语从句。句意:让卢浮宫出名的是达·芬奇的《蒙娜丽莎》。主语从句中缺少主语,且是指东西,所以应用what引导。故将That改为What。
    9.考查形容词。句意:遗憾的是,并非所有的收藏品都对公众开放,但卢浮宫还是值得一游的。opened意为“开的”,open意为“开放的,公开的”。此处表示对公众开放,应用形容词open。故将opened改为open。
    10.考查介词和固定搭配。句意:遗憾的是,并非所有的收藏品都对公众开放,但卢浮宫还是值得一游的。pay a visit to意为“参观(某地)”,为固定搭配。介词to对应主语Louvre。故在visit后加to。
