I plan to use the money to help students worldwide access higher education,” she said. “Students are the reason I’m here, so I plan to use that to promote them and create a better future for them.”

A smiling panda and a walking Chinese lantern will be the mascots of the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics (残奥会) in Beijing.
The mascots were known to the public on Sept.17, 2019 at a ceremony in Beijing. Beijing Mayor Chen Jining described them as adorable, unique, and exquisite(精致的). He said they shows Chinese people’s longing for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in a visually appealing way and extends Chinese people’s warm invitation to friends throughout the world.
The panda, named Bing Dwen Dwen, is the Olympic mascot. Colourful circles around its face symbolize skating tracks and 5G technology, according to the website of the Beijing organizing committee. Bing, the Chinese word for “ ice “, shows purity and strength, while Dwen Dwen means sincerity, liveliness, and heath, the website said. The choice of the iconic animal, considered the national treasure, is not a surprise to people in China. While many applaud Bing Dwen Dwen for its cuteness on social media, some are not favourably impressed by the lack of creativity in choosing a panda. The giant panda was one of the five mascots of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, and it was also the symbol for the Asian Games in Beijing in 1990.
“Today is an important step on a milestone in Beijing’s journey to make history as the first ever, in Olympic history, to host both summer and winter editions of the Olympic Games, International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach said at the ceremony.
Based on a traditional red lantern, Paralympic mascot Shuey Rhon Rhon creates a cheerful atmosphere of the Chinese Lunar New Year, which will fall around the time of the Winter Games, the organizing committee said. It is sporting(穿戴) a yellow scarf, a circle of yellow doves around its head, and a traditional Chinese paper-cut. “Shuey” means snow in Chinese and “Rhon Rhon” means “inclusiveness” and “harmonization”, implying that the world civilizations communicate with each other and live in harmony, the committee said.
The two mascots were selected from more than 5800 submission from 35 countries.
8、What does Chen Jining think of Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon?
A.They represent the IOC.
B.They have great artistic value.
C.They show Chinese people’s hospitality.
D.They have much room for improvement.
9、Why are some people not satisfied with choosing Bing Dwen Dwen?
A.Because pandas are the national treasure.
B.Because it is too colourful for the Olympics.
C.Because its design is lacking in creativity.
D.Because a panda has been chosen as a mascot three times.
10、What record will Beijing set after hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics?
A.The most athletes joining in the event.
B.The first Asian city to host the Olympics.
C.The first city to host two editions of the Olympics.

As children we are well-trained to find the right answer. We are rewarded for A's, the honor roll and acing the test. Our education trains us to follow the rules and deliver the expected answers. When we do, awards and congratulations follow. Yet when we grow up, it gets a little harder. Life and careers don’t have tests with an A if we get the “right” answer.
I recently had coffee with a college student who will graduate. She is struggling with what she wants for her career. She wants her parents to be proud of her and to continue the success she has had in school. She also talked about other students in her graduating class who are set to do "some big things," like working for impressive companies. Yet she wasn't sure of the right answer for using her degree. She said that deep down she was hoping that someone might give her the answer.
We both agreed that it comes down to not looking for the right answer, but her answer. The grown-up definition of the “right answer" is different than that in school. What would you do if you weren't afraid? It takes time to know these answers. And they can change over time and at any point in your career. My encouragement is to get valued advice and input, of course, but finally to look within yourself for the answers. It helps to come back to:
What do I want to be known for? What is my definition of success? What am I best at?
If I had no fears, what would I do?
What is one step I can take today to move me toward my goal (even if it's not perfectly clear)?
I find these types of questions are more helpful at getting to our unique answer rather than “right answer” questions, such as: What will my parents want? What degree or job will mark me as accomplished to the world? What is my best option based on where I work today?
12、What does the author mean to say in the first paragraph?
A.Life is harder for adults than children.
B.Academic excellence is not necessary.
C.It is not helpful to follow the rules in school.
D.Rules in life are different from those in school.
13、What is wrong with the college student?
A.She does badly in her studies.
B.Her parents are not proud of her.
C.She feels puzzled about her life career.
D.She is not sure whether to do "some big things".
14、When looking for the answer in life, you need to __________.
A.trust your parents B.listen to your heart
C.follow valued advice D.learn from your classmates
15、Which of the following questions might not help you to seek your answer?
A.What do I love to do?
B.What matters most to me in life?
C.What will make me look successful?
D.What will I regret not doing when I'm 80?

Everyone in my drama class saw the paper in my hands shaking when I stood up to try out for a lead role in the yearly school Thanksgiving play. I was there because the teacher wanted everyone to try out for a part.
Being shy and not confident, I began nervously reading the part for the main character, Star. She had no parents. Feeling so sorry for her, I finished reading.
Later when reading the name list, the teacher looked at me and announced, "Patty, you play Star. Come and get your script (剧本)."I was shocked. Jim, an excellent boy, was playing the other lead.To learn my lines, I practiced every day and finally memorized them. I became more confident and happier.
Then we started practising acting. Jim played the character, a Scrooge (吝啬鬼), who is unwilling to put a candle in his window so that the light will show passers-by the slippery ice on the path below. On the Thanksgiving day, Star comes along, falls on the ice and gets injured.
Finally feeling bad, the Scrooge helps her up. To thank him, Star kisses his hand.
One day, before our drama class started, I saw a terrible drawing of me on the blackboard with words: Falling Star. I was laughed at by someone.
The teacher asked, "Who did this?" Nobody knew. We started rehearsing (排练), but my heart wasn't in it. The teacher told me not to care about the silly trick; it wouldn't happen again. But I was sad and anxious, wanting to quit. Finally I moved on and continually worked hard for the play.
Soon it was the day before the show. It was time for the dress rehearsal. I was excited. Everything went smoothly at the dress rehearsal until the scene where I slipped on the ice and the Scrooge helped me up.
When I kissed his hand, a terrible noise and laughter sounded from behind the set. I quickly left the stage and hurried into an empty room. With tears, I said, "I can't do it. Please get someone else!"
