    Berchtesgaden Nature Park
Berchtesgaden is one of Germany's oldest and most beautiful conservation areas. Trails go in and out of the forest, leading you along the banks of glassy lakes. The more adventurous visitors may choose paragliding(滑翔伞 运动). Back on the ground, a network of more than 150 miles of walking trails goes through the forest.

Here long trails can take you all the way to the Rugen coastline, where white-sand beaches and blue waters wait for you.
    The Bliesgau Biosphere
This place is home to almost half of all German flower species. Thegrasslands spread for miles, drawing different butterflies. Thanks to its comfortable climate, this is an area of sustainable development. In fact, this park is an example of farming done right and offers a wealth of agricultural knowledge to anyone eager to learn.
    Southern Black Forest Nature Park

Seven years ago, American Libby Green was traveling with her mom to the French Mediterranean resort city of Nice.
Meanwhile, German-born Marcel Gnauk and a friend were also in Nice, attending the Crossover Festival, a celebration of eclectic music.
Walking on the city's beachfront Promenade des Anglais, Marcel spotted Libby holding a Hasselblad, a traditional medium-format film camera, and couldn't resist approaching her. The pair chatted about this valuable object and then their travel. The next day, Libby flew back to the US, but they kept in contact.
In the early years of their relationship, sharing their travel experiences online became part of their routine. Then, when traveling in Phnom Penh, Libby filmed some pigeons taking flight that she wanted to use in a film. But she couldn't record the sound of their wing beats.
They looked on the internet, searching sound libraries, but couldn't find anything appropriate. So, Marcel took a $100 audio recorder, and went searching for the missing sound to record. He didn't find any pigeons-but he did manage to change the direction of the couple's future.
Marcel turned the recorder on in a small construction zone where women were shoveling gravel, listening through a cheap set of headphones. He was shocked. Everything became alive, and from that day until now he had never stopped recording. In the six years since that first recording, Libby and Marcel have captured audio in more than 25 countries. They share their experiences through Instagram. Through postings they offer not just their passion and experiences recording sounds, but also details of the equipment and techniques they use. Through their website they offer 500 royalty-free sound libraries. Of these, 145 are free to download.
Marcel says their “a-ha” moment came when he was sitting in front of a computer in 2017. Libby had added a donation button to their website, and a Hollywood post-production creative had donated a few dollars. He realized others shared a passion for sound-and were willing to pay for it. Now their passion becomes a business.
    24. What attracted Marcel when he saw Libby?
    A. Her voice. B. Her camera. C. Her kindness. D. Her beauty.
    25. Which moment was of significance to the couple?
    A. When they made a film in France.
    B. When they shared travel experiences online.
    C. When they searched the woods for a specific bird.
    D. When they tried to record sounds of birds beating wings.
    26. What does the author want to convey by saying “'a-ha' moment” in the last paragraph?
    A. Marcel got a surprise.
    B. Marcel could do nothing but sigh.
    C. Marcel couldn't say a word.
    D. Marcel felt really worried.
    27. What is the best title for the text?
    A. An Unforgettable Travel
    B. A Secret to Happiness
    D. A Lesson from Nature
    C. A Passion for Sounds
    C
In a study involving sweat samples from 335 people, trained dogs sniffed out 97 percent of the coronavirus cases that had been identified by PCR tests and all 31 COVID-19 cases among 192 people who didn't have symptoms, researchers reported.
These findings are evidence that dogs could be effective for mass screening efforts at places such as airports or concerts and may provide friendly alternatives for testing people who fear te tests, says Dominique Grandjean in France.
Dogs’ noses also identified more COVID-19 cases than did antigen(抗原)tests, but sometimes mistook another virus for the coronavirus, Grandjean and colleagues found. What's more, evidence suggests the dogs can pick up cases 48 hours before people test positive by PCR.
In the study, dogs were trained in coronavirus detection by rewarding them with toys-usually tennis balls. “It's playtime for them, ” Grandjean says. It takes about three to six weeks, depending on the dog's experience with odor detection, to train a dog to pick out COVID-19 cases from sweat samples. For detection, the dogs sniffed used face masks or housing sweat samples collected from human volunteers' underarms. Results showed that dogs perform as well as or even better than PCR tests for detecting the virus that causes COVID-19, Furton says. He and colleagues have used dogs at schools, a music festival and in a small trial screening airline employees for coronavirus infections.
One of the biggest advantages dogs have over other tests is their speed, Furton says. “Even with what we call a rapid test, you're still going to have to wait tens of minutes or even hours, where the dog in a matter of seconds can make a response. ” However, dogs take time to train1 and there currently aren't even enough dogs trained to detect explosives, let alone diseases, Otto says.
Another drawback is that people don't think of them as high-tech, though they're one of the highest-tech devices we have.
    28. What can we learn about the study from the first paragraph?
    A. Dogs were trained to test COVID-19.
    B. Sweat samples are perfect to test COVID-19.
    C. Dogs can identify most COVID-19 cases.
    D. PCR tests failed to meet public expectation.
    29. What's the disadvantage of using dogs for COVID-19 tests?
    A. Dogs may be unfriendly to people when doing tests.
    B. Dogs lack experience dealing with large screens.
    C. Dogs may need a long time to identify the disease.
    D. Dogs may recognize other diseases as coronavirus.
    30. What can we infer about trained dogs according to Furton?
    A. They perform well at detecting COVID-19 virus.
    B. They do better at detecting explosives than viruses.
    C. They are widely used in public places like schools.
    D. They like to be rewarded with toys after training.
    31. How does Otto view getting dogs to do COVID-19 tests?
    A. Supportive.
    B. Disapproving.
    C. Fearful.
    D. Confident.
    D
A highly expected project to get plastic out of the massive pool of ocean debris(碎片) is ready to begin its first period from Alameda, California. The creators of the project, called the Ocean Cleanup, say their system can remove 90 percent of the plastic in the ocean by 2040.
It's those larger pieces that the cleanup system will stop. The system features a 600-meter-long line of unmoored booms(未停泊的水栅)that act as an artificial shoreline traveling with the wind, waves and ocean currents while rounding up plastic debris. Beneath the surface, the booms drag a 3-meter-long skirt, through which only the tiniest bits of plastic can escape. Currents will naturally push the line of booms into a U-shape, herding plastic particles (颗粒)so they’re easier to collect.
The booms are also tricked out with solar-powered lights, anti-collision(防冲撞)systems and satellite positioning to avoid ships and help project scientists keep track of the system's location. Periodically, support ships will cart the collected plastic bits back to land for recycling.
The launch of “System 001” will be a test for the first of a planned fleet of about 60 such systems. Once launched, System 001 will undergo two weeks of field testing off the California coast, Lebreton says. If all goes well, it will head to the North Pacific, arriving within five weeks of the launch date. “We're hoping to bring the first plastic back before the end of the year, ”he says.
The Ocean Cleanup representatives say their project is meant to work consistently with such upstream measures. “Even while trying to change human behaviors, it's still worth trying to remove whatever is already out there floating near the surface. The whole point is that we want to try to collect as much as possible, ” Lebreton says.
Whatever the result of this deployment, some experts trying to tackle the plastic trash problem applaud the Ocean Cleanup for raising awareness around the issue.
    32. What can we know about the cleanup system?
    A. It has been launched for several times.
    B. It's also called the Ocean Cleanup.
    C. People don't think much of it.
    D. It may remove most large ocean plastic.
    33. What's the use of the skirt the booms drag?
    A. Acting as a shoreline.
    B. Traveling with waves.
    C. Collecting plastic particles.
    D. Pushing booms' line into a U-shape.
    34. What does the underlined part “tricked out” mean in paragraph 3?
    A. Equipped. B. Filled. C. Covered. D. Poured.
    35. How do some experts view the Ocean Cleanup?
    A. It's vital for protecting the ocean from plastic waste.
    B. It contributes to informing people of ocean pollution.
    C. It's far from perfect and needs improvement before use.
    D. It has won applause from ocean-protection organizations.

I moved to a new place. After the first day of my new school, I walked home alone. Mom told me she had to work. I was still hoping she'd meet me after the bell.
I opened the door. I was hungry. I wandered into the kitchen, tearing tape from the packed boxes while I searched for a clean plate. My fingers slipped, and something went crashing to the ground.
“Benjamin!” cried Mom from the doorway. I didn't hear her come in. “What just broke?” she asked, bending to pick up the shards(碎片). In her hands, I recognized the pieces. It was Grandma’s bowl, the one Mom put out for special occasions.
“Why couldn't you have waited for me to unpack? I couldn't believe you broke this, ” she said.
Words burst from my mouth and spilled across the room. “Well, I can't believe we have to live here now! I can't believe I have to switch schools when there are only a few weeks left before summer!” I ran into my room, shutting the door behind me violently.
The broom(扫帚)swept across the kitchen floor. Then the click of Mom’s bedroom door closed behind her. I stole out into the kitchen and picked out the shards in the dustbin. There were so many pieces in here, but maybe I could put them back together.
“I'm sorry I yelled, ” said Mom, as she opened her door. “Please just throw out the pieces. We can't make a fresh start with broken things. ”
As I wandered down the hall, Mr. Sato, my neighbor, was emptying his garbage.
“Are you sure you want to throw that out?” he asked, gesturing towards the bowl.
“It's broken, ” I whispered. “This is all my fault. ”
"Things break, Benjamin. That isn't anyone's fault. Besides, this is a simple repair. Come. I'll show you. ” Taking a thin knife, Mr. Sato started to repair the bowl. After a long time, Mr. Sato said to me, “This needs to dry. Come back on Saturday, and we will finish it. ”
    注意:
    1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Saturday morning, I stole out early and knocked on the Satos' door.
I was a little nervous to show Mom the bowl, but that night I brought it into her room.

M: What about the fees for each course?

M: Good, how much does it cost?
    W: £140 a week.

W: I'm making a shopping list. Is there anything you want me to get while I'm out?
M: Yes. Could you get me some coffee? I don't have any left. And I also need some batteries for my computer mouse.
W: You have lots of coffee.
M: There's none in my can under the shelf. That's where I keep it.
W: That's because I put it on the table. You'll find plenty there.
M: Oh, I thought I had run out. OK, cross coffee off the list.
W: I'd better go now. There's a bus due soon. I will probably be home late so dinner might be late.
M: What are we having for dinner, Mom?
W: Chicken with vegetables. I have all the food materials in the fridge but I can't start cooking it until I get back.
M: Why don't you let me make it while you are out? You can give me a cal when you are about to get home and I will have it ready for you when you arrive.
W: That sounds great. Do you think you will be able to do it?
    M: Of course I can.
    Text 10
I live in a small town. Three years ago, my friends and I decided to convince our local community of the need for a proper park. We soon formed an action group consisting of students, teachers, parents and others-all led by local restaurant owner Martin Ashton. The next thing the action group had to do was to start raising money. We persuaded our school to organize a concert and all the ticket money went towards the park fund. Apart from this, we did everything we could think of to raise money-I took away the rubbish and others organized sales of second-hand books and stuff like that. Six months later, we only had £185, 000. But our target budget was £200, 000. In the meantime, John Richardson was helping out with the planning stage of the project. He works as an architect in London and has got close links with colleagues in the United States. They have a company called Xcite, which has won awards for their park design. So the action group held a community meeting. Almost ninety-eight percent said yes to Xcite. Now we have this fantastic new park.

    My Favourite Scientist
There are many respectable great scientists in the world, one of whom is my favourite scientist Wang Zeshan, a gun- powder and explosive expert. Due to his concentration on the research, he has made important achievements in the field of gunpowder, and he became one of the two winners of 2017 Highest Science and Technology Award.
Great scientist as he is, Wang Zeshan is easy-going and friendly. Besides, he is modest and serious about science in spite of his great success, which is worth learning.

    One possible version:
Saturday morning, I stole out early and knocked on the Satos' door. “Now comes my favorite part, " said Mr. Sato. He offered me a tiny brush. “Take your time, and fill in the crack lines. " At first my hand was shaking, but then I painted with smooth strokes. When I finished, the bowl looked completely different. Instead of the cracks blending in and disappearing, now you could see exactly where it was broken. “This bowl has another layer to its history-it has been broken, repaired, and is stronger because of it, " said Mr. Sato. I took the bowl home quietly.
I was a little nervous to show Mom the bowl, but that night I brought it into her room. She ran her fingertip over the golden veins. “Mr. Sato helped me fix it, " I said. "I's so beautiful, " she replied. “A new beginning. " I sat on the edge of her bed, and Mom reached out to me. Our hands joined with the crisscrossed fingers. Maybe it finally did feel like a fresh start. The bowl was stronger like this too. It was the cracks that were holding it together.
