由第一段第二句“Our poetry contest is held twice a year. (我们的诗歌比赛每年举行两次)”可知,诗歌比赛一年举行两次,所以排除选项A.It takes place every two years.(它每两年举行一次)。由第一段最后一句“Write a poem about how the pandemic (疫情) has changed your life.(写一首关于疫情是如何改变了你的生活的诗)”,而选项B. It focuses on personal growth(它关注个人成长),两者不是很贴切,故排除选项B。 D. It gives feedback on each entry.(它对每一个参赛作品给出反馈)被排除。
由“IMPORTANT: ☆Only one poem per person, per family is allowed. (重要事项:每个家庭每人只能写一首诗)”可知:比赛规则规定每户人家每个人只允许写一首诗。所以,“a family with 4 members(一个四口之家)”可以提交4首参赛作品。故选D项。
    【3题详解】
细节理解题。根据IMPORTANT部分的“☆All entries are judged anonymously (匿名地). Please do not include your name, address, phone number, etc., or your entry will be disqualified. (所有参赛作品都将匿名进行评审。请勿填写姓名、地址、电话等,否则将被取消参赛资格)”可知,所有参赛作品都是匿名评判,所以不能在参赛作品中出现参赛者的姓名、地址、电话号码等,否则报名将被取消资格。故选D项。

Journalists are the major group of people who make their living from writing. Many young people who see themselves as future novelists choose journalism as a way of earning a living while developing their writing skills. Although writing for newspapers and writing for books require different qualities, the aspiration (志向)to be a great writer is not one to be discouraged in a would-be journalist.
Most people want their work to be recognized by others. This helps to give it value. Some people also want themselves to be recognized, so that they have high position in the eyes of society. It is not a bad motive to wish to be famous, but this must never become your main reason for being a journalist. You will not be a good journalist if you care more for impressing your audience than for serving their needs.
Knowing the power of the printed or spoken word or image, some people enter journalism for the power it will give them to influence people. There is a strong belief that journalists control the mass media but the best journalists recognize their role as servants of the people. There is a difference between the desire to influence events for your own sake, and the desire to do it for other people. You should never use journalism for selfish ends, but you can use it to improve the life of other people.
Curiosity is a natural part of most people’s characters and an important requirement for any journalist. Lots of young men and women enter the profession with the desire to know more about the world without needing to specialize in limited fields of study. Most journalists tend to know a little bit about a lot of things, rather than a lot about one subject. Knowledge has many uses. It can simply help to make you a fuller and more interesting person. It can also give you power over people, especially people who do not have that particular knowledge. Always bear in mind that power can be used in a positive way to improve people’s lives,
    4. What can we know from the first paragraph?
    A. Journalism can be used as a means to improve writing.
    B. Writing for newspapers is similar to writing for novels.
    C. Most of the journalists make a living by writing books.
    D. Journalists are most likely to become great writers.
    5. Why do some people want themselves to be recognized?
    A. To learn rich knowledge. B. To serve people’s needs
    C. To earn much wealth. D. To get others’ respect.
    6. What is most necessary for journalists according to Paragraph 4?
    A. Being an expert in a certain field.
    B. Being a full and interesting person.
    C. Knowing a lot about more than one subject.
    D. Having a wide range of knowledge.
    7. What does the text mainly talk about?
    A. The development of journalism.
    B. Why people choose a career in journalism.
    C. How to become a qualified journalist.
    D. The challenges journalists face now.
A 5. D 6. D 7. B

Feelings are the emotional and physical responses to what we think about and how we react to daily events. Feelings are natural — we can’t stop them from happening. Because we are all different, we respond to feelings in various ways, sometimes positively and sometimes negatively. But if we are aware of our feelings, we can learn to respect ourselves and others.
There are many misunderstandings about feelings. For example, “ Feelings, that womanish stuff. ” Recognizing that feelings are real and natural for everyone is important. Some of us may never agree that feelings are a part of living. It may be difficult for some of us to talk about our feelings. Learning about personal feelings is important in building self-awareness and relationships with others. Most mentally healthy individuals learn to accept feelings, both good and bad.
“Feelings don’t exist, or they are dangerous. So no one should talk about them. ” Refusing to admit feelings can damage relationships. It can also build up emotions to the point when negative behaviors break out, for example, when an angry person hits the table. Not being able to talk to those we respect about our feelings may cause an emotional “shut down ” . Talking about personal feelings with your family may help. But if it doesn’t, you may need to talk about your feelings with someone else.
Instead of denying feelings, it is healthier to talk about them. One of the most important things you can do to create respect in a family is never to deny someone’s feelings. Try to spend time each day, perhaps at the dinner table or in a private chat, talking about feelings. Teach your children by example, like “ I feel afraid that you will be sleepy tomorrow if you don’t go to bed soon. ” Learn to be a good listener and show understanding.
    8. What is the feature of feelings?
    A. They are negative. B. They happen naturally.
    C. They are dangerous. D. They exist in women.
    9. Why does the author mention “ an angry person hits the table ” in Paragraph 3?
    A. To tell a story. B. To explain an idea. C. To show a fact. D. To give a definition.
    10. What is the author’s attitude toward talking about feelings?
    A. Doubtful. B. Negative. C. Favorable. D. Indifferent.
    11. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
    A. Ways of sharing feelings in a family. B. Effects of denying someone’s feelings.
    C. Reasons for having respect in a family. D. Importance of teaching kids about feelings.
B 9. B 10. C 11. A
根据文章第一段“Feelings are natural—we can 't stop them from happening.(感情是自然的,我们无法阻止它的发生)”可知,感情自然发生。
根据文章第三段“Refusing to admit feelings can damage relationships. It can also build up emotions to the point when negative behaviors break out, for example, when an angry person hits the table.(拒绝承认自己的感受会破坏人际关系。拒绝承认自己的感受也可以积累情绪到消极行为爆发,例如,当一个人感到愤怒,会打桌子)”可知,作者用“一个愤怒的人打桌子”来举例说明前面提到的观点。故选B。
    【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Refusing to admit feelings can damage relationships.(拒绝承认自己的感受会破坏人际关系)”以及“Not being able to talk to those we respect about our feelings may cause an emotional ‘shut down’(不能和我们尊重的人谈论我们的感受可能会导致情感的关闭)”可知,作者对谈论感情的态度是积极的。
根据文章最后一段“Instead of denying(否认) feelings, it is healthier to talk about them. One of the most important things you can do to create respect in a family is never to deny someone's feelings. Try to spend time each day, perhaps at the dinner table or in a private chat, talking about feelings.(与其否认自己的感受,更健康的做法是谈论它们。为了在家庭中赢得尊重,你能做的最重要的事情之一就是永远不要否认别人的感受。试着每天花点时间,也许是在餐桌上,或者是在私人聊天中,谈谈自己的感受)”可知,最后一段主要是关于在家庭中分享感受的方法。故选A。
    D
“Birds” and “airports” are two words that, paired together, don’t normally paint the most harmonious picture. So it really raises some eyebrows when China announces plans to build an airport that is for birds.
Described as the world’s first-ever bird airport, the proposed Lingang Bird Sanctuary(保护区)in the northern coastal city of Tianjin is, of course, not an actual airport. Rather,it's a wetland preserve specifically designed to accommodate hundreds-even thousands-of daily takeoffs and landings by birds traveling along the East Asian-Australian Flyway. Over 50 species of migratory (迁徙的)water birds, some endangered, will stop and feed at the protected sanctuary before continuing their long journey along the flyway.
Located on a former landfill site, the 150-acre airport is also open to human travelers.(Half a million visitors are expected annually.) However, instead of duty-free shopping, the main attraction for non-egg-laying creatures at Tianjin’s newest airport will be a green-roofed education and research center, a series of raised “observation platforms” and a network of scenic walking and cycling paths totaling over 4 miles.
“The proposed Bird Airport will be a globally significant sanctuary for endangered migratory bird species, while providing new green lungs for the city of Tianjin.” Adrian McGregor of an Australian landscape architecture firm explained of the design. Frequently blanketed in smog so thick that it has shut down real airports, Tianjin is a city---China’s fourth most populous----that would certainly benefit from a new pair of healthy green lungs•
    12. The underlined phrase “non-egg-laying creatures” in Paragraph 3 refers to?
    A. Visitors. B. Designers.
    C. Endangered water birds. D. Planes.
    13. What do we know about the airport according to the passage?
    A. People cannot watch birds up close here.
    B. It is located on a 150-acre landfill site.
    C. It functions as an actual airport and a wetland preserve.
    D. It provides migratory birds with food and shelter.
    14. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
    A. The airport will become a permanent home for birds.
    B. Tianjin will win worldwide fame in the future.
    C. Tianjin’s air quality will improve thanks to the airport.
    D. Tianjin will be able to accommodate more people.
    15. What is this passage mainly about?
    A. Airports shut down and open up.
    B. China is to open the first Bird Airport.
    C. Airports turn into green lungs.
    D. Birds are no longer enemies to airports.
A 13. D 14. C 15. B
根据画线词前的“instead of duty-free shopping”及画线词后的“a green-roofed education and research center, a series of raised “observation platforms” and a network of scenic walking and cycling paths totaling over 4 miles.”
根据第二段中的“Over 50 species of migratory (迁徙的)water birds, some endangered, will stop and feed at the protected sanctuary before continuing their long journey along the flyway.”
根据最后一段中的“The proposed Bird Airport will be a globally significant sanctuary for endangered migratory bird species, while providing new green lungs for the city of Tianjin.”及“Tianjin is a city---China’s fourth most populous----that would certainly benefit from a new pair of healthy green lungs”可知,天津的空气质量和环境会因为这个鸟儿机场保护区得到很大的改善,故C项正确。
通读全文,特别是根据第二段中的“Described as the world’s first-ever bird airport, the proposed Lingang Bird Sanctuary(保护区)in the northern coastal city of Tianjin is, of course, not an actual airport.”
【点睛】词义猜测题的难度较大,对画线词上下文的理解是关键,例如本篇第1题,根据画线词前的“instead of duty-free shopping”及画线词后的“a green-roofed education and research center, a series of raised “observation platforms” and a network of scenic walking and cycling paths totaling over 4 miles.”
The idiom “a big fish in a small pond” describes a person who is very well known or important in a small group but is not known or important outside that small group. For example,a high-performing high school student in a small town could be a big fish in a small pond. ___16___ And he may simply not know how small his “pond” is-until he moves on to a big university. He must compete with hundreds of students who were also the best at their high schools. ___17___
Here is another example. A young singer was famous in his small town. He wanted to move to a big city to grow his singing career. ___18___ “Here in our small town,”they said, “you are a big fish in a small pond. Once you move to New York City, that is going to change. Best be ready!”For some people, this can be a painful realization-sometimes called a wake-up call.
___19___ They never grow their circle of friends or work environment.Sometimes they do not take opportunities that increase their environment, or pond. By staying in a small pond,it is safer. There are fewer dangers and also fewer competitors.
The Merriam-Webster online dictionary explains another way to use the idiom. It can also describe a situation where one person has more power, influence, knowledge,or experience than others within a small group. So sometimes we use this expression to describe people who want to stay in a small pond just to feel more important. ___20___
    A. His family supported him but also warned him.
    B. He may feel overly-confidentor overly-important.
    C. Now, some people like being a big fishin a small pond.
    D. People have been using this expression since the early 1800s.
    E. Their position is not questioned by the other fish in the pond.
    F. A pond is a small body of waterwhich is usually smaller than a lake.
    G. His pond just got much larger and is now filled with many more fish.
B 17. G 18. A 19. C 20. E
本文用一些具体事例解释了俚语“a big fish in a small pond(小池塘里的大鱼)”的含义。
根据上文“The idiom “a big fish in a small pond” describes a person who is very well known or important in a small group but is not known or important outside that small group. For example, a high-performing high school student in a small town could be a big fish in a small pond.”(“小池塘里的大鱼”描述的是一个人,他在一个小群体中非常有名或重要,但在这个小群体之外却不知名或不重要。 后文“And he may simply not know how small his “pond” is-until he moves on to a big university.”(他可能根本不知道自己的“池塘”有多小——直到他进入一所大大学。)
根据上文“He must compete with hundreds of students who were also the best at their high schools.”(他必须与数百名高中成绩最好的学生竞争。)
根据上文“A young singer was famous in his small town. He wanted to move to a big city to grow his singing career. ”(一位年轻的歌手在她的小镇上很有名。她想搬到一个大城市来发展她的歌唱事业。)可知,这位在小镇出名的歌手想要去大城市发展。再根据后文““Here in our small town”, they said, “you are a big fish in a small pond. Once you move to New York , that is going to change. Best be ready! ”(他们说“在我们的小镇上,你是小池塘里的一条大鱼。一旦你搬到纽约市,情况就会改变,最好做好准备!”。)可知,他们的家人也告诫她要做好心理准备。由以上可推断,设空处描写他们的家人支持她的同时也给她一些警告。故选A。
They never grow their circle of friends or work environment. Sometimes they do not take opportunities that increase their environment, or pond.
