    A
One of the best advantages of technological advancements is the fact that it has given us so much more freedom in the way we work. That so many jobs can be done remotely means you can travel and work from anywhere you want in the world. Here are some of the best cities to live and work in.
    Tallinn, Estonia
Often overlooked as a tourist destination, Tallinn has become known as Europe's next Silicon Valley. Not only that, it is absolutely amazing. The Old Town has been named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is full of Gothic architecture and lots of historical landmarks.
    Budapest, Hungary
Budapest is an ideal city for anyone who is crazy about wandering. It has a diverse culture, delicious and affordable food, and best of all, a low cost of living compared to other major cities. Its Neo-Renaissance architecture has made it one of Europe's most beautiful cities.
    Da Nang, Vietnam
Unlike large cities like Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, Da Nang's advantage is that it is still pretty unknown to many people. That means there are fewer tourists while still providing the same attractions of a big noisy city. Enjoy the most delicious food, buy fresh coconuts on the beach, and rent a motorbike and drive over Hai Van Pass.
    Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon is becoming popular as a co-working community, and it's clear why so many flooded into this city. With 300 days of sunshine each year, unbelievable nightlife, and delicious food, there are certainly worthwhile places to spend your time at. Lisbon has a growing tech scene but is still very leisurely.
1 What do Tallinn and Budapest have in common?
    A. Their living cost is low. B. They have beautiful architecture.
    C. They are famous technology centers. D. They are listed in the UNESCO World Heritage.
    2. Which country is the city offering a beach tour located in?
    A. Estonia. B. Vietnam. C. Hungary. D. Portugal.
    3. What is unique about Lisbon?
    A. It offers delicious food. B. It is a quiet European city.
    C. It is famous for beautiful scenery. D. It enjoys sunshine most of the year.

The sun was rising as we drove across the Minnesota state line to New York for my new Ph.D. program. The move was good for me professionally, but I worried about my husband and daughters. I also feared that I wouldn’t be able to give my kids the childhood they deserved.
Anne, our first daughter, came into the world when I was a junior majoring in biology in college. It was challenging to balance classes, work schedules, and being a mom. But I got through it, finding moments of joy along the way. On the nights when I was home, I’d read my class notes out loud with my daughter. She’d respond by asking questions, such as “Mom, what are bacteria?” It helped us both learn.
After I graduated, I knew that I would need a Ph.D. to land the kind of job I wanted. I arrived in New York feeling more than the usual new-grad-student anxiety. I also suffered from a more personal fear that I was being selfish—that my decision to invigorate my career was going to have long-term negative impacts on my kids.
Over the past year though, I’ve started to let go of some of this worry. I’ve realized that we have not only adapted to our new situation, but things are getting better. My husband landed a job that he is happy with. Anne dreams of becoming a marine biologist. Recently, while driving past the cancer institute I work at, Anne said, “Thinking about people having cancer is so sad, but I feel better knowing that you are researching it to help.”
Navigating academia as a young mother is hard, but it’s also rewarding. My kids are learning to look at the world through the lens of science, and watching their mom succeed inspires them. I look forward to seeing them follow my footsteps, whatever path they choose.
    4. How did the writer feel about the move for her Ph.D. program?
    A. It was fruitful but exhausting. B. It was the last thing she would do.
    C. It was hopeful but challenging. D. It was promising for the whole family.
    5. Which can best replace the word “invigorate” in Paragraph 3?
    A. boost. B. change. C. create. D. choose.
    6. What could be inferred from Anne’s words in Paragraph 4?
    A. People are afraid of having cancer. B. Cancer is health enemy No.1.
    C. Her mother takes her job seriously. D. Anne is proud of her mother.
    7. What might be the best title of the text?
    A. Onwards and Upwards B. Double Gains of Mum’s Pursuit
    C. Like Mother Like Daughter D. Generation Gap Narrowed by Love
C 5. A 6. D 7. B
根据第一段中“The move was good for me professionally, but I worried about my husband and daughters. I also feared that I wouldn’t be able to give my kids the childhood they deserved.( 搬家对我的职业生涯有好处,但我担心我的丈夫和女儿。我也担心我不能给我的孩子应有的童年。)”可知,作者认为因她的博士项目而搬家既是充满希望的,也是具有挑战性的。故选C项。
    【5题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中“After I graduated, I knew that I would need a Ph.D. to land the kind of job I wanted. (毕业后,我知道我需要一个博士学位才能得到我想要的工作。)”可知,作者决定读博士来获得自己想要的工作,由此可知,这个决定是为了促进自己事业发展的,因此猜测划线词invigorate意为“促进,帮助”,可用动词boost替换。故选A项。
根据第四段中“Recently, while driving past the cancer institute I work at, Anne said, “Thinking about people having cancer is so sad, but I feel better knowing that you are researching it to help.”(最近,当开车经过我工作的癌症研究所时,安妮说:“想到人们得了癌症让我很难过,但知道你在研究它来帮助他们,我感觉好多了。”)”
根据第一段“The sun was rising as we drove across the Minnesota state line to New York for my new Ph.D. program. The move was good for me professionally, but I worried about my husband and daughters. I also feared that I wouldn’t be able to give my kids the childhood they deserved. (当我们驱车穿过明尼苏达州的州界去纽约攻读我的新博士学位时,太阳正在升起。搬家对我的职业生涯有好处,但我担心我的丈夫和女儿。我也担心我不能给我的孩子应有的童年。)”,倒数第二段的“Over the past year, though, I’ve started to let go of some of this worry. I’ve realized that we have not only adapted to our new situation, but things are getting better. My husband landed a job that he is happy with. Anne dreams of becoming a marine biologist.”(然而,在过去的几年里,我已经开始放下这些担忧。 安妮梦想成为一名海洋生物学家)和最后一段中“Navigating academia as a young mother is hard, but it’s also rewarding. (作为一个年轻的母亲,在学术界航行是困难的,但它也有回报。)”可知,本文主要讲述了作者为了攻读博士学位搬家,但她担心丈夫和孩子不适应新环境。但最后的结果很好,丈夫找到了新工作,女儿也在她的影响下有了梦想和追求,自己也在工作领域发展得很好。因此文章的最佳标题是选项B“妈妈追求的双重收获”。故选B项。
    C
Faced with a declining population and workforce, Japan has been increasingly turning to robots for help. Over the years, the robots have carried out a large number of human tasks, including building products and providing care for the elderly.
However, the robots currently being used by companies, like Walmart and Amazon, are only able to perform single, repetitive tasks, such as stacking boxes. Model-T, on the other hand, has a wider range of movement and is able to hold, pick and place objects of several different shapes and sizes into different locations, making it ideal for convenience and grocery stores, which sell a large variety of items.
Model-T robots are operated from a distant location by human “pilots” wearing a virtual reality (VR) headset and special gloves, which allow them to feel the product the robot is holding in their hands and guide it to the right shelf.
The VR-controlled robots are ten times cheaper than automated robots, because they don’t require advanced programming and are easier to develop and maintain. And their easy-to-use controls require little training. Tomohiro Kano, a general manager in charge of development at FamilyMart, believes this will enable the chain to recruit workers who would typically not work in stores.
Though Model-T appears to be getting rapidly through the experiments, it is not quite ready to enter the workforce. Besides being a lot slower than humans, it is also only able to lift packaged items, and cannot get hold of things such as fruits and vegetables. The company is working to improve the weaknesses and hopes to introduce a faster, more skillful Model-T within the next two years. They believe that in addition to the stores, the robots could also be useful in hospitals, allowing doctors to do operations from remote locations.
    8. What is one of the features of Model-T according to the text?
    A. It works much faster than humans. B. It can easily hold all kinds of objects.
    C. It can be operated from a distance away. D. It is harder to produce than an automated robot.
    9. What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 4 refer to?
    A. The low price of Model-T. B. The easiness to operate Model-T.
    C. The low-level programming of Model-T. D. The strict training for maintaining Model-T.
    10. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
    A. Model-T is now being massively produced.
    B. Japan’s workforce will be reduced by Model-T.
    C. The weaknesses of Model-T have been overcome.
    D. Model-T may be used in wider fields in the future.
    11. In which section of a website can we read this text?
    A. Technology. B. Economy. C. Lifestyle. D. Environment.
C 9. B 10. D 11. A
根据第三段“Model-T robots are operated from a distant location by human “pilots” wearing a virtual reality (VR) headset and special gloves, which allow them to feel the product the robot is holding in their hands and guide it to the right shelf.( Model-T机器人由戴着虚拟现实头盔和特殊手套的人类“飞行员”在远处操作,这些“飞行员”可以感受到机器人手中拿着的产品,并将其引导到正确的货架上)”可知,Model-T的特点之一是可以远距离操作。
根据最后一段中“They believe that in addition to the stores, the robots could also be useful in hospitals, allowing doctors to do operations from remote locations.(他们认为,除了商店,这种机器人也可以在医院中发挥作用,让医生可以远距离做手术)”可推知,在未来Model-T可能有更广泛的应用。
根据第二段“However, the robots currently being used by companies, like Walmart and Amazon, are only able to perform single, repetitive tasks, such as stacking boxes. Model-T, on the other hand, has a wider range of movement and is able to hold, pick and place objects of several different shapes and sizes into different locations, making it ideal for convenience and grocery stores, which sell a large variety of items.(然而,沃尔玛和亚马逊等公司目前使用的机器人只能完成单一的、重复性的任务,比如堆放箱子。另一方面,Model-T拥有更大的移动范围,能够将不同形状和大小的物体放置在不同的位置,使其成为便利店和杂货店的理想选择,这些商店销售各种各样的商品)”结合文章主要介绍了日本发明的一款名为“Model-T”的机器人,它拥有更大的移动范围,使其成为便利店和杂货店的理想选择。文章介绍了这种机器人的操作方式以及未来可能应用的领域。可推知,文章可能选自网站的“科技”部分。故选A。
    D
Sunday Bakeshop in Oakland, California, makes foods that mix American and Asian cultures. The restaurant makes foods that are cooked or baked in an oven. Many of them are sweet. For example, the shop sells something called a dim sum cookie. It looks like a sugar cookie but has sesame (芝麻) seeds on top and sweetened red beans inside. Dim sum is a word for Cantonese foods from southern China.
The dim sum cookie is Elaine Lau’s way of honoring her grandmother who would make a kind of food that had a similar taste. Lau’s restaurant also makes Chinese White Rabbit candy cookies. Those sweets would not be found in any bakery in Asia but are a mixture of Asian and Western foods. Lau said she speaks to Asian Americans and others at her store. She said: “We get a lot of comments, for example, ‘The cookies are just like little lovely kitties and puppies.’ ‘Oh this took me back to several years ago when I was growing up.’” She added that it was nice to create good memories and feelings with her pastries (糕点).
Bakeries that combine the feeling of growing-up Asians and Americans have been opening up more often in recent years. Traditional Asian ingredients are being mixed with European or American pastries into something new. The creations are a way for young Asian Americans to celebrate their identity.
“Older traditional Asian bakeries make foods that immigrants miss from their home country. The new bakeries celebrate Asian culture and are part of a natural progression,” said Robert Ku, who is an Asian American studies professor at Binghamton University in New York state. He also wrote the book Dubious Gastronomy: The Cultural Politics of Eating Asian in the USA.
“The bakers are showing that their foods, which mix cultures, are just as American as apple pie. It’s sort of the artistic side of Asian American identity that’s often ignored,” Ku said. “They’re instead really trying to fuse things together.”
    12. What does Lau think of her work?
    A. Tiring. B. Demanding. C. Confusing. D. Rewarding.
    13. What are the older traditional Asian bakeries trying to do?
    A. Create a new way of showing their identities.
    B. Celebrate the Asian culture in foreign countries.
    C. Remind the immigrants of their hometown flavor.
    D. Introduce young Asian Americans to new culture.
    14. What does the underlined word “fuse” in the last paragraph mean?
    A. Combine. B. Improve. C. Invent. D. Consume.
    15. What is the suitable title for the text?
    A. Asian American Cookies Become American's Favorite Food
    B. Varieties of New Asian Foods Are Created by American Cooks
    C. Asian American Bakeries Mix Together Cultures to Create New Foods
    D. Traditional Asian Food Becomes Popular with American Young People
D 13. C 14. A 15. C
根据第二段的“She said: ‘We get a lot of comments, for example, “The cookies are just like little lovely kitties and puppies.”“Oh this took me back to several years ago when I was growing up.”’ She added that it is nice to create good memories and feelings with her pastries(糕点).(Lau说:“我们收到了很多评论,例如,‘饼干就像可爱的小猫小狗’‘哦,这让我回想起几年前我成长的过程。’”她补充说,用她的糕点创造美好的回忆和感觉很好)”推知,Lau认为她的工作是值得的。故选D。
    【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段的“Older traditional Asian bakeries make foods that immigrants miss from their home country.(较古老的传统亚洲面包店开始制作移民们想念的家乡的食物)”可知,较古老的传统亚洲面包店试图让移民们回忆起家乡的味道。
根据最后一段的“The bakers are showing that their foods, which mix cultures, are just as American as apple pie. It’s sort of the artistic side of Asian American identity that’s often ignored(面包师们正在展示他们的食物,混合了不同的文化,就像苹果派一样具有美国特色。亚裔美国人身份的艺术方面常常被忽视)”可知,面包师展示的食物混合了不同的文化。由此推知,划线部分所在句子意为“相反,他们真的试图把事情融合在一起”,即fuse在此意为“融合”,与combine同义。故选A。
通读全文并结合第三段“Bakeries that combine the feeling of growing-up Asians and Americans have been opening up more often in recent years. Traditional Asian ingredients are being mixed with European or American pastries into something new. The creations are a way for young Asian Americans to celebrate their identity.(近年来,结合了亚洲人和美国人成长感受的面包店越来越多地开张。
Experts are always advocating the health benefits of biking. And while the barrier to entry is low-pretty much all you need to know to start cycling is how to ride a bike itself—people often ask me if I have any tips for beginner bikers.
Below a few things I’ve learned along the way that help make for a safer and more joyful ride:
Follow the rules of the road. Brake at yellow lights, stop for pedestrians and maintain a solid distance from cars. ____16____ Therefore, never fly through stop signs, approach too close to the front vehicles or shout at cars.
____17____ A British doctor recently made headlines when he claimed that wearing a bike helmet is actually more dangerous than traveling without one, but most research suggests otherwise. A full 98 percent of bike commuters (上下班族) own a helmet, so you’ll be in good company, anyway.
Make a playlist. Laws against riding with headphones vary from state to state, and it’s never proper to listen to music in more than one ear. But cruising around to a soundtrack can be an amazing feeling, so consider buying a wireless speaker you can fix on your frame. ____18____
Know your rights. If you do end up getting into a collision (碰撞), stay on the scene until the police come. ____19____ Cyclists are too often taken advantage of in bad situations, especially if their injuries don’t seem to be apparent.
Find some friends. As great as it can be to bike alone, zipping down the street in a big group is an equally satisfying experience. ____20____ Various bicycle trips are often organized, which provides opportunities to develop friendship among bikers.
    A. Get fully equipped.
    B. Be sure to get a helmet.
    C. Most cities have enough resources for the cycling community.
    D. It’s necessary that you give them an accurate report of the incident.
    E. Most of us will feel it obviously safer to ride on a bike than in a car.
F Then put together a list of your favorite tunes and get ready to enjoy them.
    G. Pushing to the limit not only gives bikers a bad reputation, but also a great danger.
G 17. B 18. F 19. D 20. C
根据下文“Therefore, never fly through stop signs, approach too close to the front vehicles or shout at cars.(因此,永远不要飞过停车标志,靠近前面的车辆或对汽车大喊。)” G选项“Pushing to the limit not only gives bikers a bad reputation, but also a great danger.(突破极限不仅会给骑自行车的人带来坏名声,还会带来巨大的危险。)”
下文“A British doctor recently made headlines when he claimed that wearing a bike helmet is actually more dangerous than traveling without one, but most research suggests otherwise.(一位英国医生最近上了头条,他声称戴自行车头盔实际上比不戴头盔旅行更危险,但大多数研究表明情况并非如此。)” B选项“Be sure to get a helmet.(一定要戴上头盔。)”
根据本段首句 “Make a playlist. (制作播放列表。)”建议读者制作一个播放列表。而上文“Laws against riding with headphones vary from state to state, and it’s never proper to listen to music in more than one ear. But cruising around to a soundtrack can be an amazing feeling, so consider buying a wireless speaker you can fix on your frame.(禁止戴耳机骑车的法律因州而异,用一只耳朵以上听音乐是不合适的。但是听着原声音乐四处闲逛会有一种奇妙的感觉,所以考虑买一个可以固定在框架上的无线扬声器。)”则主要讲述的是,不要戴耳机听音乐骑自行车,反而建议读者买一个无线扬声器。所以空处应与段首句呼应。F选项“Then put together a list of your favorite tunes and get ready to enjoy them.(然后列出你最喜欢的音乐,准备好欣赏它们。)”
根据空前“If you do end up getting into a collision(碰撞), stay on the scene until the police come.(如果你最终发生了碰撞,待在现场直到警察来。)” D选项“It’s necessary that you give them an accurate report of the incident.(你有必要给他们一份准确的事件报告。)”
根据空前“As great as it can be to bike alone, zipping down the street in a big group is an equally satisfying experience.(一个人骑自行车固然很棒,但一大群人在街上飞驰也是一种同样令人满意的体验。)” C选项“Most cities have enough resources for the cycling community.(多数城市都有足够的资源供骑行社区使用。)”

One weekend in July, Jane and her husband, Tom, had driven three hours to camp overnight by a lake in the forest. Unfortunately, on the way an unpleasant subject came up and they started to quarrel. By the time they reached the lake, Jane was so angry that she said to Tom, “I'm going to find a better spot for us to camp” and walked away.
With no path to follow, Jane just walked on for quite a long time. After she had climbed to a high place, she turned around, hoping to see the lake. To her surprise, she saw nothing but forest and, far beyond, a snowcapped mountain top. She suddenly realized that she was lost.
    “Tom!” she cried. “Help!”
No reply. If only she had not left her mobile phone in that bag with Tom. Jane kept moving, but the farther she walked, the more confused she became. As night was beginning to fall, Jane was so tired that she had to stop for the night. Lying awake in the dark, Jane wanted very much to be with Tom and her family. She wanted to hold him and tell him how much she loved him.
Jane rose at the break of day, hungry and thirsty. She could hear water trickling (滴落) somewhere at a distance. Quickly she followed the sound to a stream. To her great joy, she also saw some berry bushes. She drank and ate a few berries. Never in her life had she tasted anything better.
Feeling stronger now, Jane began to walk along the stream and hope it would lead her to' the lake.
As she picked her way carefully along the stream, Jane heard a helicopter. Is that for me? Unfortunately, the trees made it impossible for people to see her from above. A few minutes later, another helicopter flew overhead. Jane took off her yellow blouse, thinking that she should go to an open area and flag them if they came back again.
    注意:
    1)所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
    2)续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;
    3)请在答题卡的相应位置作答;
    4)字体端正,格式规范,卷面整洁。

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Paragraph 2:
It was daybreak when Jane woke up.
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
But no more helicopters came and it was getting dark again. Jane had to stay alone in the forest for another cold night. At that moment, she felt a little sad, but she wasn’t so frightened. She reminded herself constantly, “Tom must have called for those helicopters. Maybe he was in one of them and will return soon! I have to guide him tomorrow.” She fell asleep and dreamed of seeing Tom.
It was daybreak when Jane woke up. She ate some berries and then walked along the stream, hoping to find a suitable place to guide the helicopter. She walked and walked, exhausted but full of hope. Suddenly, she spotted a huge flat rock. She managed to climb onto it and waited with patience. The helicopter appeared again. The nearer it got, the more she waved the yellow blouse. To her great joy, the helicopter didn’t miss Jane this time and it landed near the big rock slowly. Tom jumped off the helicopter and rushed towards Jane. They hugged each other tightly and burst into tears.
