I hired a man to help me repair an old farmhouse. His first day job made him mad — a flat tire (轮胎) made him lose an hour of work, he cut his finger with a knife and his old truck refused to start. While I drove him home, he sat in silence.
On arriving, he invited me to meet his family. As we walked towards the front door, he stopped at a small tree and touched the tips of the branches with both hands. When opening the door, his face was full of smiles and he hugged his two children and gave his wife a kiss.
Afterwards, he walked with me to the car. We passed the tree. I was so ▲ that I asked him about what I had seen earlier. “Oh, that’s my trouble tree,” he replied. “I know I can’t help having troubles on the job, but one thing is for sure. Those troubles don’t belong to my children and wife. So I hang them in the tree every night and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning, I pick them up again.”
“The funny thing is,” he smiles,“when I come out to pick them up in the morning, there aren’t as many as those hung up the night before.”

Hip hop or rap music started on the street and in the clubs of the New York City in the1970s. People rap to express how they feel about their lives and problems.
Nowadays, hip pop music is played in more than 10,000 schools in the USA .Why? There is a new school program called “Flocabulary”, in which teachers use texts and hip hop CDs to help teach different school subjects, such as physics, math and so on. The words of the songs are just what students are studying. This makes learning easy and fun. Students and teachers are excited about the positive results it has had on exam marks. One teacher said, “I’ve used hip hop songs in class and I have never seen my students so crazy about my lesson! You can’t imagine how well they remember what I teach! We even try to write our own songs.”
Blake Harrison, a high school student, was the first person to come up with the idea of Flocabulary. The word “Flocabulary” comes from the word “flow” and “vocabulary”. “Flow” is a rap word for “ style”, or the way a rapper says the words of a song. “Vocabulary" means the words you have to learn in a language.
How did he get the idea? Well, as he listened to hip hop song first time, he sensed a strong joy. And he could remember the words of a hip hop song very easily. “So, why not make lessons into songs?” he thought. Today, together with Alex Rappaport, a song writer, Blake produces hip hop songs for maths, science and English. They are now used in schools with great success.

Everyone likes having money to spend. In fact, most of us wish we had a lot more money than we already have. Today I want to share three common money mistakes that teenagers make and suggest ways to avoid them.
One common mistake teenagers make is underestimating (低估) the real cost of purchases (购买品) especially on expensive items like mobile phones. Maybe you’ve saved up $2,000, so you plan to buy a phone that costs exactly $2,000. However there are other costs to consider, like monthly service fees of $200 or more. Make sure you always do enough research before buying anything. This will help you avoid overspending.
A second common mistake teenagers make is failing to develop a savings plan. We usually spend everything we have. Many of us even daydream about how we’re going to spend money that we don’t even have yet. Start saving money today by making a written plan. Discover how much money you expect to get over a period of time and then keep part of it, perhaps ten percent, for savings first before spending anything. This will help you to save up for special purchases.
Finally, teenagers also make the mistake of impulse buying. We see something we like and buy it without thinking it through. This often happens when we’re out shopping with friends for fun. To avoid impulse buying, just think of the things you are saving up to buy before going out shopping. While shopping, carry only a small amount of money with you.
If you want to make sure that you have the money you need when you really need it, try to avoid these money mistakes. In this way, you’ll be able to keep more money in your pocket with much less effort than you think.
( ) 13. How does the writer organize Paragraph 2?
A. By telling a story. B. By giving an example. C. By listing a reason.
( ) 14. What does the underlined word “impulse buying” mean?
A. 冲动购物 B. 刚需购物 C. 谨慎购物
( ) 15. Which of the following best shows the structure of the text? (P=Paragraph)
( ) 26. What is the purpose of this text?
A. To offer tips about making more money.
B. To ask teenagers to stop buying things.
C. To give advice on using money wisely.

Stonehenge means “hanging stones”. They stood in a circle with 30 more stones lying on top to form a ring of rocks. There was also an inner circle built with similar stones. The stones set up in a trilithon(巨石牌坊) pattern.
A trilithon is made of two stone pillars with a stab of rock laid across the top. The stones weigh up to 20 tons each. People wonder how the huge rocks were placed that way.
Historians agree that Stonehenge was built in three different stages. The first stage took place about 5,000 years ago. At that time, a large circular earth wall was made. Historians believe the wall was dug and cut with tools made from anglers(鹿角) of red deer. The earth wall was about 98m in diameter(直径). A 5-meter-tall stone was placed near the center. Then, they had to transport the large blue stones (up to 4 tons) 384 kilometers to Stonehenge. Experts think they might be moved across ice and snow. The ground in winter in this area is usually full of ice and snow, making it easier to move the rocks. The next task was to stand the stones up. The most difficult task was putting the top stones in place. Each one of these tasks took a lot of planning and a lot of strength, but the workers of Stonehenge were excellent builders.
Why was the monument built? Some scientists think it’s a burial ground. There are over 400 graves (burial sits) nearby. A man was buried with two gold earrings which are the oldest gold ever found in Britain(dated to 2470 BC). Others think Stonehenge was built by early astronomers. Scientists believe that when a person stands in the center of the monument, the changing of ▲ can be seen. Certain stones mark the location of the rising and setting moon in midwinter. Other stones mark the rising and setting sun in midsummer. The ancient people held religious ceremonies on these days. These ceremonies probably asked the gods to bring good weather for crops and to protect the people from bad weather.
Stonehenge is an engineering success. Thousands of years later it still stands. As a calendar, Stonehenge is very accurate. It shows that early people had a deep understanding of the movements to the sun and the moon. They didn’t have machines or computers but Stonehenge shows people could do many things using only their muscles and their brains.
( ) 17. The first building stage of Stonehenge was ______.
A . to move the blue stones across the ice
B. to dig and cut the earth wall
C. to stand the stones up
( ) 18. Which evidence(证据) is given to support the idea that Stonehenge was a burial ground?
A. Stonehenge was made of stones.
B. The passing of seasons can be seen there.
C. Two gold earrings were found in a grave
( ) 19. Which of the following can be put into the ▲ ?
A. seasons B. days C. nights
( ) 20. Stonehenge was probably NOT originally built for__
A. tourists B. religious reasons C. telling the seasons

“I did not,” Jenna said. “I got up the same way l always do.”
“You know what I mean.” Grandma said.

“I don’t want to get wet,”Jenna said. “I want it to be sunny so we can go to the park. That would be fun.”
Grandma looked at Jenna and said, “That’s enough. I know you’re down about the park. But you can still have a fun day.”
Jenna thought for a while. She knew Grandma was right. She was being kind of silly. Nikki sat down next to her. “I’m sorry you’re sad.” Nikki said.

“We can get the picnic blanket and put it on the floor. Then we can make a picnic lunch. We can eat it inside. We won’t get wet and there won’t be any bugs!” Nikki said.

【答案】
Learn To Get Along With Changes
This morning when I got up, I found it was raining outside. How boring it was! My cousin Nikki and I had planned a picnic at the park, but the rain stopped us!
When I was sad about the rain, Nikki came in excitedly with his yellow boots. He couldn’t wait to go walking outside in the rain with his boots. Grandma also told me that although we couldn’t go to the park, we could still have a fun day. I suddenly understood and decided to enjoy the day. Nikki suggested that we should have an inside picnic. What a great idea it was!
At last, we went walking in the rain in our rain boots, and then had a very interesting inside picnic. From this event/thing, I learned that if we can get along with changes, we can be much happier every day.
