It's sad to see people who lost their families and houses in natural disasters(自然灾害). If you want to give a hand as a kid, there are several ways to do so.
If you are able to donate money, there are a lot of charity organizations. They will use the money to help the people affected(影响) by natural disasters. But if you can't afford to make a donation, there are other things you can do.
You can start a school fundraiser. Talk with your teacher about starting activities to collect money, clothes and toys at your school. Or you can start an activity around your neighbourhood, such as a walk, a run, a cake sale, or other activities to collect money.
You don't need a big group of people to make a difference. Every donation, whether it is big or small, helps the people affected by natural disasters to build their homes again.

A pair of 16yearold American twins(双胞胎), Jack and Jake Moran, started a programme called “Warm Hearts, Warm Hands” last month. Their purpose was to collect new and used gloves with other students at their school.
“We started this programme a few weeks ago after we saw something on the news about a primary school student who got frostbite(冻伤) riding his bike to school, ” Jack said. “I then realized that there are so many kids who don't have or wear gloves. I thought that we could change this if we can raise people's attention and then try to make them give gloves. ”
The twins talked to other students about their programme through putting up posters. Since the programme started, students have taken part in a friendly competition to see which class can bring in the most gloves. The collection competitions are held among classes, and the winner class gets a special party.
“This programme has really shown me that I don't need to get on a plane and go to help poor people in African countries to make a difference. I can do it right here. I can do it every day, ” Jake said.

Most people would say that charity is always good, but not everyone would say so. Some believe that charity is sometimes carried out badly or not as well as it should be. Is that true?
Some believe that charities often care about symptoms(症状) rather than causes(原因). The charity helps receivers with their problems, but it doesn't do much to deal with the causes of those problems. But in fact, a lot of charity work is being done to deal with the main causes of problems, for example, trying to reduce global poverty(贫穷), or doing research into diseases like cancer. Fighting against cancer is mostly a scientific problem, while global poverty needs more than a scientific operation, or finding a better way to manage world resources.
Some also say that charity may not give the best way to deal with a problem. Charitable giving may not be the quickest way. Indeed charitable giving may even prevent some people from finding the best solution(解决方法). If that is true, it may be better for governments to make some changes. However, that may mean millions of people will starve(饿死) in the short term, though it helps save many more people in the long term. And for most of the needy, a bird in the hand really is a lot better than two birds in the bush.
( )70. According to Paragraph 2, fighting against poverty ____.
A. is only a scientific problem
B. has nothing to do with scientific study
C. is not connected with world resources
D. is much more difficult than fighting against cancer
( )71. According to Paragraph 3, it is believed by some people that charities ____.
A. often deal with problems directly
B. succeed in working out the causes of some problems
C. need to put more efforts into dealing with the causes of problems
D. are trying their best to work hard on the causes of problems
( )72. According to the passage, charity ____.
A. is always good
B. always has bad results
C. is not useful
D. is not always good but not so bad
