Unit 5 Do you want to watch a game show?

一、导入

Ask students a question: What kind of TV shows do you like to watch?

二、目标

1. Students learn some new words and phrases, such as talk show, sitcom, soap opera, talent show etc.  
2. Students can read the listening material and role-play;
3. Students can talk about what TV shows they like to watch.

三、先学

1. ① Students complete activity 1a;

② Ask some students to share the answer;

③ The teacher checks the answer with the students.

2. ① Students listen to the recording and number the shows in the order they hear them;

② Ask some students to share the answer;

③ The teacher checks the answer with the students.

四、后教

1. Translate the listening material and lead the students to read it for several times;
2. Explain the important and difficult points to the class.
3. Language points

(1)  What do you think of talk shows?

①  What do you think of … ?

= How do you like …? 

你认为/觉得……怎么样？

常用来询问对方对某事或某人的看法和观点。

回答：It’s great. /I don’t mind. /I can’t stand.

think of  意为“认为，考虑”。of 为介词，

     其后可接名词、代词或动名词作宾语。

② show 作动词，意为“给……展示；出示”。后面常接双宾语，用法是show sb. sth.=show sth. to sb. 意为“给某人看某物”。

e.g. Can you show me your new watch?

=Can you show your new watch to me?

你能给我看一下你的新手表吗?

(2)  I don’t mind them.

mind /maɪnd/ v. 介意；对（某事）烦恼

mind在句中作动词，常用在疑问句或否定句中。

后面接名词、代词或动名词。

e.g. We don’t mind giving them a hand.

我们不介意帮助他们。

(3)  can’t stand

stand /stænd/ v. 忍受；站立

e.g. I couldn’t stand the boys making so much noise.

我受不了男孩们发出这么多噪音。

stand 作“忍受”讲时，用法如下：

         stand sth./sb. 忍受某物/ 某人

         stand doing sth. 忍受做某事（常用于否定句和疑问句）

         can’t stand 无法忍受

五、强化记忆

1. Students practice the conversation and role-play;
2. Students remember the important sentences.

1. Ask students to role-play the conversation.
