To make sure we could drive off the moment he walked in, everything 6 up. When a half hour had passed from the time he said he would be home, I knew that he was 7 late. But then, a whole hour passed. I got upset. Why hadn't he phoned me he was going to be late? As I anxiously paced the floor, 8 half hour passed. I got angry. 9 thoughtless my father was! Ruben and Nico, the two smallest kids, continued spending their money all on sweets. Every time, they would show off their sweets in front of the other children. This made Clara and Joe so angry that these two could no longer keep saving their money. They soon joined Ruben and Nico.
Monty was a clever boy. He decided to manage his money by buying and selling things. Soon he made a lot of money with little effort. The way he was going, he would end up almost a rich man. (B)
Have you ever watched a show about the wild? A shark eats a seal! Lions run down a gazelle! Is all nature like that? All about eating and blood? Or is that just what keeps our eyes glued to the TV screen? Let's look at some living things who work with each other instead of ripping each other apart.
When a lion kills a gazelle, it wants to eat as much as it can and maybe share the rest with its family. There are some living things that will take small pieces of another living thing's body. Parasitism is when one living thing gets its energy from another living thing, does not give anything back, and hurts the thing it's taking things from.
Now let's get a little nicer. Sometimes a living thing will live off the body of another living thing without hurting it. They do not steal anything. They do not bite. Commensalism is when two living things live together and one gets good things out of it while the other is not hurt by it. Have you seen a picture of a whale (鲸) with rocky white things stuck to its skin? Those are barnacles (藤 壶). They attach themselves to the whale, so nothing will try to eat them and they can eat things that float by.
Now let's get really nice. While sharks are biting and lions are fighting, are there any animals that just get along? Yes! Actually, there are many. Mutualism is when two living things work together and both get good things out of it. Bees and flowers are the most common example. Without flowers, bees could not make honey. Without bees, flowers could not make new seeds. It's a win-win for these two. There are lots of animals that get along. Birds will live on the backs of zebras and eat the ticks that are drinking the zebra's blood. The bird gets food. The zebra gets its ticks taken away. In some of these cases, one animal could not live without the other.
We use the word "symbiotic (共生的)"for all of these kinds of relationships. Sometimes it's good for one and bad for the other. Sometimes it's just good for one. Sometimes it's even good for both. So, it is nice to know that there are some living things out there that are finding ways to live together. We could pay attention to the animals that do not always make it on TV.
30. The writer mentioned a TV show about the wild in paragraph 1 to __.
A. tell a story
B. deal with a problem
C. introduce a subject
D. discuss a programme
31. Which of the following best describes the relationship between bees and flowers?
A. Neighbours.
B. Relatives.
C. Strangers.
D. Partners.
32. How does the writer develop the passage?
A. By showing pictures.
B. By giving examples.
C. By presenting reasons.
D. By listing numbers.
33. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The world of living things remains to be explored.
B. More action should be taken to protect living things.
C. TV programmes about living things require to be improved.
D. More money will be spent on research on living things.
(C)
When we think of the most respected awards in the world, the Nobel Prize (诺贝尔奖)must be on the list.
Created by Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel in 1895, the prize recognizes achievements in sciences and the people behind them. Every year in October, the announcement of winners catches the world's attention.
But what is the importance behind this award? According to the founder Nobel himself, the prize is for people who have brought “the greatest benefit to humankind".
A number of Nobel Prizes have rewarded people whose discoveries have led to cures for diseases and health problems. A lot of parts in telephones, computers and telecommunication systems are also the fruits of Nobel Prize-awarded work. Other prizes have recognized those who have helped to create a more peaceful world.
The individuals selected and the contributions they made show how science, literature and peace efforts improve and change the world and better our lives.
In the series of books about the Nobel Prize, the author says, “Many everyday things would be impossible without the work of the winners of the Nobel science prizes. "
Think about the plastic bags. Plastic wouldn't have been invented without Friedrich Wilhelm Ostwald's research. The German scientist won the Nobel Prize in 1909.
In recent years, Chinese people have paid more attention to the results of the Nobel Prize. Chinese scientists and writers are known to the world by their achievements, such as 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature winner Mo Yan, and Tu Youyou, China's first Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine winner in 2015. It's an uplifting thing, not only for the individual achievements, but also for the national confidence.

A. Encouraging.
B. Rising.
C. Clear.

Can anyone be an astronaut? Of course not. You don't have to have a science degree but most astronauts do. Most of them are pilots too. Life in a spaceship is hard, so you must have a healthy body and mind. You need to be easy-going, patient, and helpful to spend so much time in a small space with other people.
|
What's the training like? People have to train for a year to learn how to stay healthy and safe. They practise space walking and living in zero gravity. They train in difficult conditions to learn how to deal with problems and to work in a team. Everyday tasks like eating, washing and sleeping can be difficult in a spaceship. There is no running water so you have to wash with wet tissues. It's hard to enjoy the dry food that astronauts have to eat. And to sleep you must cover your eyes because the sun rises every 90 minutes on the International Space Station. You also have to tie yourself to something so you don't fly away!
|
What health problems do astronauts have? Life in zero gravity causes changes to our bodies. Bones and muscles (肌肉)become thin and weak, so you must do a lot of exercise in space to stay fit and to help the heart move blood around your body. Astronauts often get backache because people grow in space-up to 8 centimeters! It's also common to have headaches and to feel sick, especially at the beginning. You must have vitamins to take the place of fresh fruit and vegetables. But you don't have to put on sun cream because space suits protect your skin.
|
Are you still interested? So now you know. If you want to go to space, study hard, learn to fly and take care of your body and mind.
|
38. What must you do to prepare for a space trip?
A. Wash with running water.
B. Experience zero gravity.
C. Practise long walks.
D. Sleep with your eyes open.
39. Why do astronauts have to exercise in space?
A. To make their bones and muscles thinner.
B. To help the heart work well and keep fit.
C. To avoid backache and grow much taller.
D. To stop their skins from getting sunburned.
40. What is the text mainly about?
A. Why we need to train hard before a space trip.
B. Why young people are interested in space trips.
C. What food astronauts must have in space.
D. What we need to know to become an astronaut.
第二节 阅读填空(共5小题;每小题1分, 满分5分)
阅读短文及文后A~E选项, 选出可以填入41~45各题空白处的最佳选项, 并在答题卡上将该选项涂黑。
Brainstorming is the practice of coming up with ideas or solutions. 41 But we do have some rules to follow for successful brainstorming.
Focus on quantity over quality (质量). When it comes to brainstorming, the more ideas, the better. Don't worry about the quality of your ideas for now. 42 Remember that your goal is to come up with as many ideas as possible. Even if none of them are perfect, you'll still have many creative ideas to use for your final plan.
Encourage big or unusual ideas. 43 Although unusual ideas may not be immediately practical, just creating those ideas gives your brain training. It can also help to produce creative solutions that are hard to come up with.
44 Don't say no to the ideas of others. You can put together the best parts of different ideas to create new, even better ones. Even if you're not brainstorming as a group, you should still think about sharing your ideas with others and asking them for their advice.
You don't have to regard yourself as a very creative person to come up with excellent ideas and solutions at once. Brainstorming can help unlock ideas. Even if you don't find the perfect solution, just practicing it can help to improve your creativity. 45
A. Share ideas with each other. B. Put these tips together and you are sure to come up with some great ideas. C. There's no correct way to brainstorm. D. Just say or write any idea that comes to mind. E. Don't give up your ideas, no matter how strange they seem to be. |

Dear classmates,
I went to the School Hall to join in the English Cultural Festival this term. This activity aimed to promote great Chinese culture and use English to tell Chinese stories well. We gathered in the School Hall. There was a lecture on introducing Chinese celebrities in English. Then, we made English posters to introduce Chinese traditional culture. What's more, we appreciated some red songs and tried to sing songs by ourselves.
In my opinion, it is a really good experience for us to take part in this activity. We can not only develop our ability to communicate with others in English, but also pass on our great Chinese culture to people from all over the world.
