(2020·河北保定高一期末)
Foxes and farmers have never got on well. These small dog-like animals have long been accused of killing farm animals. They are officially classified as harmful and farmers try to keep their numbers down by shooting or poisoning them.
Farmers can also call on the services of their local hunt to control the fox population.Hunting consists of running after a fox across the countryside, with a group of specially trained dogs, followed by men and women riding horses. When the dogs eventually catch the fox, they kill it or a hunter shoots it.
People who take part in hunting think of it as a sport. They wear a special uniform of red coats and white trousers, and follow strict rules of behavior. But owning a horse and hunting regularly are expensive,so most hunters are wealthy.
It is estimated that up to 100,000 people watch or take part in fox-hunting.But over the last couple of decades the number of people who are against fox-hunting,because they think it is brutal(残忍的),has risen sharply.Nowadays it is rare for a hunt to pass off without some kind of conflict between hunters and hunt opponents(阻止者).Sometimes these incidents lead to violence, but mostly opponents discourage the hunt by misleading riders and disturbing the trail of the fox’s smell, which the dogs follow.
Noisy conflicts between hunters and opponents have become so common that they are almost as much a part of hunting as running after foxes itself. But this year supporters of fox-hunting face a much bigger threat to their sport.A Labour Party member of Parliament(英国议会),Mike Foster,is trying to get Parliament to approve a new law which will make the hunting of wild animals with dogs illegal. If the law is passed, wild animals like foxes will be protected under the ban in Britain.

(2020·河南郑州高一月考)
Even if trees cannot walk, they are still on the move.
In parts of the Arctic, entire forests are moving northward.Across the Arctic, temperatures are rising faster than anywhere else in the world. As that happens, the tree line that marks where forests stop and the treeless tundra(冻原)starts has been shifting northward.Trees growing along the tree line must protect themselves from the cold wind.To do this, plants tend to grow horizontal(水平的)branches low to the ground. The energy it takes for trees to grow this way means they don’t have enough energy to make seeds.
But as Earth’s climate has been warming, trees no longer have to just grow horizontally. Many can instead grow up,toward the sky. This takes less energy. And with all that leftover energy, these trees have started producing more seeds. This happens especially in places where the white spruce(白云杉)grows.
White spruce, which is a North American tree,is quite able to produce a lot of seeds, which can move long distances in the wind. When wind-blown seeds end up on the tundra beyond the tree line, they eventually can sprout(发芽)new trees. This explains how a forest can move.Of course, the process would work only if the tundra were warm enough. But in recent years the whole planet has been warming.
New trees will provide shelters for some snow.Keeping the sun’s rays from making the white surface disappear.Instead, the trees absorb the sun’s heat. This warms the surrounding air.The extra warmth encourages even more trees to produce seeds. That further boosts a forest’s ability to expand. In addition, more trees will trap more snow, preventing much of it from being blown away.Snow can trap heat in the soil below, which encourages trees to grow. The recent rise of temperatures has helped more trees grow past the tree line.People worry about impacts on animals that depend on frozen conditions for food and shelter.
5.What is the main cause of the trees in the Arctic moving northward?
A.The shrinking of northern tundra.

7.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.New trees can trap the snow, which may make the soil colder.
B.The trapped snow prevents new trees from producing more seeds.
C.New trees can make the surrounding air warmer.
D.New trees can bring more food and shelter for local animals.

Ⅱ.七选五
(2020·湖南长沙高一月考)
In my experience working with children,self-confidence or a lack of confidence can have a big effect on whether a person is able to overcome the challenges they are experiencing, such as fear and anxiety as well as other concerns. When children build their self-confidence,meaning they believe in themselves more, they become more comfortable with themselves. 1
1.Create a pretend play.
Allow a child to create a puppet show to express the difficulty he is having. For instance,if the child is afraid of the dark,I will have him come up with a puppet show about a puppet that is afraid of the dark. 2 If the child doesn’t seem to be coming up with a way to help the puppet overcome his fear, present some questions to see if he can come up with a way to help the puppet.
2. 3
Many children with low self-confidence display behaviors that suggest they do not believe they can do things on their own.To encourage independence, when a situation appears in which the child states he can’t do it or wants you to do it for him, encourage the child to do the activity. 4
3.Raise self-awareness.
Helping children to become more aware of who they are can help build self-confidence.Children with low self-confidence may not be very decisive. They may say “I don’t know a lot” or may hesitate when you ask them questions about themselves. 5 To do this,be supportive of the answers they provide by making sure not to discount or make them feel like they need to change their answers in any way.
1. 2. 3.
