94-year-old Suttie Economy plans to be buried in what looks like a pack of Juicy Fruit gum(口香糖) when he dies.
Economy’s love affair with Juicy Fruit goes back to his days in the service, when chewing gum producer Wrigley sent its products to troops overseas. Since then, Economy has become something of a self-appointed goodwill ambassador for the brand.
Sammy Oakey, president of Oakey’s Funeral Service and Economy have a friendship that goes back 45 years. After Economy recently suffered heart attacks, he approached his longtime friend with a request: When his time came, he wanted to be buried in a coffin(棺材) painted to resemble his trademark gum. Oakey immediately called Wrigley’s but they gave Oakey’s request a thumbs-down.
Actually, unusual burial requests are nothing new. Comic book author Mark Gruenwald’s ashes were mixed with ink that was used into a first-edition printing of Squadron Supreme. Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson’s ashes were shot out, while James Doohan, known to fans as Star Trek’s “Scotty”, had his remains sent into space.
Knowing how important the chewing-gum-themed coffin was to Economy, Oakey didn’t give up the fight. He managed to contact Mars Wrigley’s top boss.
Happily for all concerned, Oakey renewed his request to the powers that be and met with success. In an e-mail from the company president, he was told the company would go along with whatever the family wanted to do.
Not only did the gum company give their biggest fan a final gift, they also sent Economy’s family 250 packs of Juicy Fruit as a thank you for his lifelong brand love.
Economy has actually taken a turn for the better. We don’t know whether his improved condition is due to the “Juicy Fruit” effect, but if there’s one thing we’ve learned from this story, it’s if you think outside the box — and ask nicely — sometimes you can take it with you.
24. How did Wrigley’s respond to Oakey’s request at first?
A. They agreed to it. B. They ignored it.
C. They turned it down. D. They hesitated.
25. What does the author think of Economy?
A. Honest. B. Faithful. C. Brave. D. Generous.
26. What is the purpose of Paragraph 4?
A. To point out green burial has a long history.
B. To prove many people follow Economy’s suit.
C. To explain green burial is becoming a tendency.
D. To show Economy isn’t the first to have a strange burial idea.
27. What is the text about?
A. An unusual wish. B. A strange old man.
C. A lifelong friendship. D. A famous gum brand.
根据第三段“Oakey’ immediately called Wrigley’s but they gave Oakey’s request a thumbs-down.”(Oakey立即打给Wrigley,但是他们拒绝了Oakey的要求。)
根据第二段“Since then, Economy has become something of a self-appointed goodwill ambassador for the brand.”(从那以后,Economy就成了该品牌自封的亲善大使。)以及倒数第二段“Not only did the gum company give their biggest fan a final gift, they also sent Economy’s family 250 packs of Juicy Fruit as a thank you for his lifelong brand love.”(口香糖公司不仅给了他们最忠实的粉丝最后的礼物,他们还送给Economy的家人250包Juicy Fruit,以感谢他对品牌的终身热爱。)
根据第四段“Actually, unusual burial requests are nothing new.”(事实上,不寻常的葬礼请求并不新鲜。)
故A项An unusual wish(一个不寻常的愿望)概括文章中心。故选A。
C
China’s Tianwen I Mars probe(探测器) conducted its fourth orbital correction on Friday evening, as the spacecraft makes ready for its arrival in orbit around Feb. 10, according to the China National Space Administration.
The name comes from the long poem Tianwen, meaning Heavenly Questions or Questions to Heaven, written by Qu Yuan, one of the greatest poets of ancient China. In Tianwen, this name conveys the Chinese nation’s steady effort in pursuing truth and culture of exploring nature and the universe. CNSA also unveiled(发布) the logo of China’s planetary exploration missions, featuring the letter C, signifying China, international cooperation and capacity of entering space.
Tianwen I has flown for 197 days and more than 465 million kilometers on its journey to the planet. It is now around 184 million km from Earth and 1.1 million km from Mars. Tianwen I, the country’s first independent Mars mission, was launched by a Long March 5 heavy-lift carrier rocket on July 23 from the Wenchang Space Launch Center in Hainan province, kicking off the nation’s planetary exploration program.
A successful landing would make China only the second nation to place a spacecraft on the Martian planet. China would also be the first to successfully orbit, land and deploy(部署) a vehicle in the same mission. According to experts, searching for signs of life on Mars will be the first and foremost scientific goal. China is open and inclusive in the development of its space technology not least because it believes that the exploration of outer space should help build a community with a shared future for mankind.

A. To tell the origin of space exploration.
B. To describe space exploration vividly.
C. To highlight the importance of space exploration.
D. To show Chinese continuous struggle in space exploration.
29. The main idea of Paragraph 3 is about Tianwen I’s ________.
A. function B. development C. operation D. structure
30. What is the essential goal of exploring Mars?
A. To build a common future for man.
B. To prove our achievement in space research.
C. To discover signs of life on this planet.
D. To expand the understanding of the space.
31. What can we learn from the text?

I might be letting my young son watch too much television. I am certainly watching too many of his programs. They can really be perplexing as they force you to think carefully about the mysteries of life.
For example, when Franklin(the turtle) wanted a pet, his parents didn’t want it to be a frog. They felt that frogs belong in a pond. Isn’t that where turtles belong?
And why is it that Little Bear’s animal friends can all talk and behave like people, but his friend Emily has a dog that can only bark and fetch? Tell me that isn’t a mystery!
Dog lovers can be cheered up by Kipper and his friends. These dogs are very human. However, the only time they wear clothes is when they put on bathing suits to go swimming. I’m confused!
Speaking of dogs, could Pluto ever be Goofy’s pet? I don’t get it! What did the great Mr.Disney have in mind?
And this is awful! The other day we watched a very nice little pig setting up a picnic. One of the foods was a big ham. Could it have been a soy(大豆) ham? Is there such a thing? I hope so!
Another thing that bothers me: What if Elmo isn’t real? He can’t be a mere puppet(木偶)! He’s got a better altitude than most people. I just keep wondering.
I think we’ll turn off the TV and go out for a walk. Maybe we’ll run into that mouse who dresses well but certainly doesn’t speak as clearly as the average bear.
32. What does the underlined word “perplexing” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Boring. B. Humorous. C. Confusing. D. Curious.
33. Why does the author think it unpleasant for a pig to eat ham?
A. Pigs don’t eat meat. B. Pigs are dirty animals.
C. Ham is too expensive. D. Ham is made from pigs.
34. How does the author feel about Elmo stories?
A. Embarrassed. B. Concerned. C. Astonished. D. Disappointed.
35. The author suggests that TV mouse_______.
A. should speak more clearly
B. should not wear good clothes
C. should not dress better than bears
D. should speak louder again next time
【答案】32-35 CDDA

61. included 62. is 63. the 64. is performed 65. appreciation
故填by。
故填to bring。
故填which。
此处the wedding and names of the bride and bridegroom和include之间是被动关系,是过去分词作后置定语。故填included。
故填is。
故填the。
故填is performed。

Last week our school carried out a Labor Week activity, aiming to raise the students' awareness of the significance of labor and arouse our passion for labor. The activity lasted for one week. Firstly, our school organized us students to work in the nearby farm. The task involved planting trees, weeding, and watering vegetable. What's more, we were asked to participate in some voluntary work after class, such as helping the elder do the cleaning. Besides, we shared housework with our parents, relieving their burden.
Through this activity, we have not only realized the value of labor but also learned to respect all laborers. Meanwhile, our physical health has been greatly improved.
“What’s this? — Ben Caruthers is trying out for Mr. Zuckerman?” My ears burned at hearing my name. It was Lindsey Stanton, the most popular eighth-grader in Bellworth Middle School, talking to her friends.
I held my breath. She obviously had no clue that my locker was next to Mrs. Stevens’s room, where the tryout schedule for Charlotte’s Web was posted. It sounded that they were worrying that I would ruin the whole play, because I had never acted before. My stomach tightened into a big knot.
Who was I kidding? Lindsey was right. I’d never been in a play. At lunch I told Trevor, my best friend, that I’d changed my mind. I’d join the technical crew instead. That fit my quiet-kid image better anyway. Trevor was surprised to my decision. He was keen on acting and expected my company in the play. He shook his head, but he didn’t try to change my mind. It wouldn’t have made a difference anyway — I was starting to look forward to being on the tech crew.
On Friday I checked the final cast list, just for fun. Trevor was Templeton, and Lindsey Stanton was Mrs. Zuckerman.
Rehearsals (排练) started, and I spent Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at school. It was fun to learn all the technical stuff and to watch the actors from backstage. By the third week I’d memorized everyone’s lines. Trevor and I talked all about the play and the rehearsals during our lunch time.
And then, only a week before the performance, everything fell apart. The eighth-grader who was supposed to play Mr. Zuckerman, crashed his bike and broke his leg. Then his understudy (替角) came down with the flu. Things like this weren’t supposed to happen in real life.
Mrs. Stevens called the cast together. She told us we couldn’t get someone else ready by the next week and that we would have to postpone the play. She frowned and continued, “If the auditorium (礼堂) is booked for later, we may even have to cancel.” For once the cast was silent.

Paragraph 1:
Then I heard Trevor’s voice. “Ben Caruthers can do it. He knows all the lines.” Suddenly, thirty pairs of eyes stared at me. Mrs. Stevens asked, “Is that right?” I nodded. Lindsey Stanton gave me a skeptical glimpse. I looked at her and flowed out Mr. Zuckerman’s longest speech. When I finished, the whole cast started talking. Mrs. Stevens clapped and announced excitedly that the show was saved. She asked us to stay and that we should seize every minute to parctice.
Paragraph 2:
When the rehearsal began, I spew (喷出) my lines too quickly and I trembled my body. Lindsey sighed and suggest postponing the show until the understudy got better. I was ready to agree with her, but Mrs. Stevens spoke first. She advised me to adjust my breath and keep calm. After the rehesrsal was dismissed, Trevor stayed with me, helping me to project my voice and take deep breaths so that I’d stay calm onstage. The next day, I remembered to breathe and mind my moves. It must have made a difference, because at the end Mrs. Stevens clapped and even Lindsey looked relieved.
