Like any new ninth-grader on the first day of school, Joemar Class had ninth-grader-emotion(情绪). He’s not used to school in Hartford. He’s used to going to school in his home town of Florida, used to seeing his friends, used to having class in Spanish.
    “Nervioso,” he said in Spanish.
We first met Joemar in mid-October in the San Juan Airport. His father, Guillermo Class, had sold his car to buy plane tickets to get his kids and fly them up from Puerto Rico. The island was almost destroyed(毁坏) by the deadly storm — Hurricane Maria.
Now, they are settling into their new home in Hartford’s South End. A week later, using his wife’s car, Class drove 16-year-old Joemar to his first day at Bulkeley High School. After a short ride, he got out in front of his new school. Inside, he met Gretchen Levitz — the school’s program director.
“I see you have new uniform(校服),” Levitz said. “You look great. Are you ready for a good first day?”
Then he met couple of teachers.
“Hello,” they each said in Spanish. They asked where he’s from, and told him they were happy to see him. Then Levitz took him on a quick tour of the school before classes began — to her office the school store, the library, and the dining hall.
A total of 19 languages are spoken in Bulkeley High School. “We have so many new students coming here from other countries every single day,” Levitz said. “So it’s not like he’s the only one who has that feeling.”
“You could tell he’s little worried,” Guillermo said as we left. “But, at the same time, he’s looking forward to it.”
    24. What kind of feeling did Joemar have on his first day of school?
    A. Angry. B. Excited. C. Nervous. D. Relaxed.

Think of the last time you disagreed with another person. Maybe you argued with a sibling(兄弟;姊妹) over what to watch on TV. Or perhaps you tried to convince grown-ups that ice cream makes a better dinner than vegetables. How did your disagreement end? Were you able to see the issue(争论的问题) from the other person’s viewpoint?
In many situations, disagreements are unavoidable. They’re part of life. After all, everyone has different opinions. We all have past experiences that shape how we see the world. Still, not all disagreements are bad. In fact, many people look at them as opportunities to learn. They do so by trying to understand where both sides are coming from.
How can you understand both sides of an issue? Often, it’s best to start by asking questions. Questions help us learn about the world around us. The right questions can also help us learn about other people. In a disagreement, asking for more information can help you learn about a person’s viewpoint. It can also lead you to gather more facts. This can paint a better picture of the entire issue.
When seeking to understand both sides of an issue, it’s important to know the difference between facts and opinions. Remember, facts are based on true information. Opinions can change from person to person. Paying attention to facts can stop biases(偏见) from taking over in a disagreement. This can help everyone involved see both sides of the issue.
Maybe you’re wondering why it’s important to understand both sides of an issue, anyway. After all, don’t most people just want to prove that their side is right? Often, that’s true. However, understanding the whole issue can lead to both sides working together.
Disagreements may be uncomfortable at first. However, when both sides truly try to understand each other, they often find they have more in common than they thought. The next time you disagree with another person, try asking him questions about their viewpoint. You never know what you might learn.
    28. What does the underlined word “so” refer to in Paragraph 2?
    A. Ignoring chances to learn.
    B. Knowing more about themselves.
    C. Shaping a right way to see the world.
    D. Making the disagreements as chances to learn.
    29. According to the passage, how can we solve a disagreement?
    A. By changing the other’s opinions.
    B. By making both sides comfortable.
    C. By trying to stand in others’ shoes.
    D. By telling facts and opinions apart.
    30. How does the author support his view?
    A. By reasoning. B. By describing.
    C. By persuading. D. By questioning.
    31. What’s the author’s attitude to people’s arguments?
    A. Indifferent. B. Pessimistic. C. Positive. D. Skeptical.

Britain’s streets are becoming increasingly crowded with throwaway facemasks and protective gloves, a survey has found, as councils warn that they are battling with a mountain of personal protective equipment(PPE) litter.
Four in ten councils have identified throwaway masks, gloves and other forms of PPE as a problem in their area, and warned that it could pose an infection risk.
The District Councils’ Network(DCN) represents 187 regional authorities, covering waste collection for 22 million people. “As well as being potentially dangerous for pets and wildlife, there is a risk that they could spread infection,” it said. “The World Health Organization has warned that appropriate handling is essential to avoid any increase in the spread of disease.”
Councils are already struggling with waste collection during the pandemic as residents are creating more rubbish while spending longer periods at home. The DCN said some weeks this summer had been like “Christmas collections”, referring to the larger amounts of rubbish over the festive period.
Dan Humphreys, the DCN’s chief for enhancing quality of life, said: “Facemasks, gloves and other forms of PPE are designed to protect people but poor handling risks doing the opposite. We would remind residents to think about how they deal with their waste.”
Scientists, however, have warned that even if masks are dealt with properly, 124,000 tons of single-use facemasks could end up in landfill if people do not switch to reusable coverings.
    32. What is DCN’s attitude towards PPE litter?
    A. Worried. B. Tolerant. C. Skeptical. D. Approving.
    33. Why is “Christmas collections” mentioned in paragraph 4?
    A. To recall the festival. B. To admire the atmosphere.
    C. To advocate the collection. D. To criticize the phenomenon.
    34. What can we infer from the scientists’ warning?
    A. It is better to produce multiple-use equipment.
    B. It is better to use reusable equipment.
    C. More rubbish will be produced.
    D. More landfills will be built.
    35. What is the text mainly about?

However, when both sides truly try to understand each other, they often find they have more in common than they thought.”(分歧一开始可能会让人不舒服。
通读全文,尤其第三段开头两句“How can you understand both sides of an issue? Often, it’s best to start by asking questions.”以及第四段第一句“When seeking to understand both sides of an issue, it’s important to know the difference between facts and opinions.”以及最后一段“Disagreements may be uncomfortable at first. However, when both sides truly try to understand each other, they often find they have more in common than they thought.”

    61. whom 62. with 63. watching 64. worried 65. choice
    66. or 67. stars 68. the 69. frequently 70. be seen
fall in love with意为:爱上……,为固定短语。故填with。
either...or...:要么……
故填the。
故填be seen。
    2.第二句,a改为an
    3.第三句,when改为where
What
故a改为an。
故when改为where。
根据从句“While she was in Grade 3”可知,该动作发生在过去,应使用一般过去时。故drop改为dropped。
故her改为herself。
故删除so。
故Which改为What。
