And anyone who isn't living cannot have the job.”
The man left with no hope at all. He didn't know what to do with only $10 in his pocket. He thought and thought. Then he went to the supermarket and bought 10 kilos of tomatoes. He sold the tomatoes from door to door. In less than two hours, he had 20 dollars. He repeated the operation three times, and started to go early every day, and returned home late. Shortly, he bought a cart, then a truck, then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles. Five years later, the man was one of the biggest food retailers (零售商) in the US.

I went to a movie theater with my roommate yesterday. His hobby is watching movies. He is enthusiastic about movies. I was very glad when he said that he would take me to a movie theater. As a student abroad, I always spend my time reading books in the library or studying in the classroom, so I looked forward to going to the movies.
The movie we saw was called “The Patriot”. It described the love between a father and his children during the time of the American War of Independence. It is a war story based on history, but the story was created by the writer for entertainment. The movie was enjoyable in that sometimes it made us laugh, and other times it made us cry. It was a successful movie.
The most amazing thing was the reaction of the audience. It was different. Though I could concentrate on watching a movie in Japan, I could not in America because of the reaction of the audience. They laughed loudly when an actor told a joke and they applauded at the plot when the main character killed his enemy. It was amazing to me that they expressed their emotions openly.
In other words, an American theater is a space for everyone to enjoy. If I did that in a public place in Japan, most of the audience would look down on me or complain about the noisiness, and the person beside me might say, “Could you please be silent? ”
There seems to be a cultural difference between America and Japan. It is said that Americans always express their emotions and opinions and that we always conceal(隐藏)ours. I’m glad to observe such a difference because I can feel I am experiencing a real thing while visiting the United States.
28. The writer wrote the story in order to_________.
A. introduce an enjoyable war movie to us
B. show his studying experience in America
C. give us some advice on how to behave in a movie theater
D. tell us a cultural difference between America and Japan
29. What do you know about the author?
A. He is a Japanese and studies in America.
B. He doesn’t work hard at his lessons.
C. He is tired of the life as a student abroad.
D. He is fond of watching movies very much.
30. It can be known from the passage that Americans_________.
A. hide their emotions from strangers
B. express their emotions openly
C. are not so polite as the Japanese
D. look down upon the Japanese
31. When Japanese people are watching a movie, they usually _________.
A. laugh loudly B. exchange their ideas
C. keep quiet D. make some comments
D
If you think that running marathons will help you live a long and healthy life, new research may come as a shock. According to a recent scientific study, people who do a very strenuous workout are as likely to die as people who do no exercise at all.
Scientists in Denmark have been studying over 1,000 joggers and nonjoggers for 12 years. The death rates from the sample group indicate that people who jog at a moderate pace two or three times a week for less than two and a half hours in total are least likely to die. The best speed to jog at was found to be about 5 miles per hour. The research suggests that people who jog more than three times a week or at higher speeds of over 7 mph die at the same rate as nonjoggers. The scientists think that this is because strenuous exercise causes structural changes to the heart and arteries (动脉). Over time, this can cause serious injuries.
Peter Schnohr, a researcher in Copenhagen, said, “If your goal is to decrease risk of death and improve life expectancy, jogging a few times a week at a moderate pace is a good strategy. Anything more is just unnecessary, and it may be harmful.”
The implications of this are that moderate forms of exercise such as tai chi, yoga and brisk walking may be better for us than “iron man” events, triathlons and longdistance running and cycling. According to Jacob Louis Marott, another researcher involved in the study,“You don't actually have to do that much to have a good impact on your health. And perhaps you shouldn't actually do too much.”
32.The underlined word “strenuous” in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to “________”.
A.hard B.regular
C.practical D.flexible
33. The author presents some figures in Paragraph 2 to ________.
A.suggest giving up jogging
B.show risks of doing sports
C.provide supportive evidence
D.introduce the research process
34. According to the scientists, why is too much exercise harmful?
A.It may injure the heart and arteries.
B.It can make the body tired out.
C.It will bring much pressure.
D.It consumes too much energy.
35. What can be inferred from the text?
A.Jogging is the best exercise.
B.More exercise means a healthier life.
C.Marathons runners are least likely to die.
D.Proper exercise contributes to good health.

I’m glad to receive your letter asked about my holiday life. I usually get up very early or do exercise in the park. Learning at home takes on most of my time. At times, I helped my parents with some housework when they are busy, that makes me happy. Meanwhile I take active part in social activities, such as community voluntary work. Sometimes, I join many more volunteers in going out to the streets to collect rubbishes. Besides, I try our best to help those in need, often going to the orphanage to visit the lonely children.
36.根据上文“In today's increasingly competitive society, people are loaded with a growing amount of stress. Stress can affect how you feel, think, and behave.
37.根据上文“●Identify the cause. If you are having problems with tense muscles, overtiredness headaches, it is quite possibly stress-related. Is it your job, relationship or something else? Problems can be divided into three categories: those with a practical solution, those will get better with time and those outside your control.
38.根据上文“●Move your body. Exercise won't cure your stress, but it can help to clean your head. Try something new: yoga may be calming, but there's nothing more thrilling than hitting a punchbag. C选项中These指代上文drinking and smoking。
39.根据后文“If you are the kind of person who is open to advice complain to a friend about your stress. Friends can work as a support group, and they may provide you with solutions. Sometimes, you can't see the easy way out of situation when you are standing right in the middle of it.
40.根据上文“●Make a list. Having too much to do may cause you to rush around because, if you are moving faster, it feels as if you are getting more done. Do the big, important things last, after you have achieved several of the small things. That way, you will approach the big things already feeling good.(列一个待办事项清单。

send ... to把……送到……去。故填to。
故填have graduated。
故填The。
故填was founded。
故填that/which。
61.1.asked→asking 2.or→and 3.on→up 4.helped→help
5.that→which 6.active前加an 7.删除more 8.rubbishes→rubbish
9.our→my 10.greatly→great
分析可知,句中get up 和do exercise为两个并列动作,没有选择关系,所以or改为and。故or改为and。
所以on改为up,故on改为up。
故that改为which。
固定短语take an active part in意为“积极参与”,故active前加an。
短语try one's best意为“尽某人最大努力”,本句的主语为I,所以此处指尽我的最大努力,故our改为my。
故greatly改为great。
Dear Peter,
Delighted to learn that you show great interest in Mothers’ Day, I’m writing to share with you some details regarding it.
As is known to us all, showing respect for mother is a tradition for us Chinese. Mothers’ Day falls on the second Sunday in May on which we’ll send best wishes and express our gratitude to our dear mothers for their hard work. When it comes to the gifts, some children give thank-you cards to their mothers, some would like to send them beautiful flowers, and others even prepare performances or give them handmade gifts. As far as I’m concerned, it is Mothers’ Day that gives us an opportunity to show our respect and love for our mothers, which is contributing to improving the relationship between mothers and children.
Are there any similar celebrations in your country? I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
