The aim of students who came to school is to study. But to study requires a right way, or you waste either the time or the money. The following are the ways of studying.
The best time for reading is morning, because in the morning, the air is fresh and the mind is clear. For that reason, we can get good results.
In studying we must have patience. If we have not known a text well, we must read it again. We should not read the next one till we have learned the first one.
When we are studying, we must put our hearts into the book, or we can get nothing from the book while we are reading.
We must always ask “whys”. If it is not well understood, write it down and ask our teachers or our parents, or friends. In any possible way, we must know it completely and what we’ve learned can be used well and made better.
Though there are many ways for studying, yet the above mentioned will be quite enough if we can keep them in heart and do so.
4.The passage tells us ________.
A.the importance of reading
B.to pay attention to the ways of studying
C.to read in the morning
D.to have patience in studying
5.How many ways of studying are mentioned in this passage?
A.Three. B.Four. C.Five. D.Six.

(2022·新疆·乌鲁木齐市第135中学高一期中)Educators today are more and more often heard to say that computer literacy is absolutely necessary for college students. Many even argue that each incoming freshman should have his or her own microcomputer. What advantages do computers offer the college students?
Any student who has used a word processor will know one compelling reason to use a computer: to write papers. Although not all students feel comfortable posing on a word processor, most find revising and editing much easier on it. One can alter, insert, or delete just by pressing a few keys, thus ridding students of the need to rewrite or retype. Furthermore, since the revision process is less difficult, students are more likely to revise as often as is necessary to end up with the best paper possible. For these reasons, many freshman English courses require the use of a word processor.
Computers are also useful in the context of language courses, where they are used to drill students in basic skills. Software programs strengthen ESL (English as a Second Language) instruction, as well as instruction in French, German, Spanish, and other languages. By using these programs on a regular basis, students can improve their skills in a language while proceeding at their own pace.
Similarly, business and accounting students find that computer spreadsheet (电子表格) programs are all but important to many aspects of their work, while students pursuing careers in graphic arts, marketing, and public relations find that knowledge of computer graphic (绘图) is important. Education majors learn to develop grading systems using computers, while social science students use computers for analyzing and graphically displacing their research results.
It is no wonder then, that educators support the purchase and use of microcomputers by students. A useful tool, the computer can help students learn. And that is, after all, the reason for going to college.
8.According to the author, a word processor can be used to________.
A.revise and edit papers B.rewrite or retype papers
C.complete a freshman’s course D.improve students’ writing skills
9.According to the author, the reason for students to go to college is ________.
A.to learn something B.to perfect themselves
C.to improve computer skills D.to find one’s passions
10.What is the main idea of Paragraph 4?
A.Educational experts have developed grading systems.
B.The computer has fund its way into social science.
C.Rarely do accounting students use computers.
D.computers benefit various majors in college.
11.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.More college students should major in computer science.
B.Machine learning and big data is the future of computer application.
C.Some computer programs can be employed to aid language learning.
D.Educators are reluctant to increase computer use in their own classroom.
(2022·河南驻马店·高一期中)This fall, Chinese students under compulsory education (义务教育) have welcomed the double reduction policy, which helps to reduce homework and out-school training. But how do students like to spend their time after school? Let’s look at homework around the world.
New Zealand
Before high school, teachers in New Zealand test their students to learn their level and arrange different teaching tasks. The school will give out a report on each student’s reading, writing, mathematics, science, art and sports at mid-year and end-of-year.
In senior high school, students’ homework and exams greatly increase. But they can select courses according to their personal interests and future career plan.
Japan
For students in Japanese primary and secondary schools, there are two types of homework: developing their living skills and getting knowledge in the classroom. And for high school students, many need to translate one page of English into Japanese every day and read it aloud, write 200 Chinese characters and do math exercises. Some schools allow students to go to tutoring schools to help them get admitted by their favorite universities.
The Netherlands
Dutch students under the age of 10ceive very lite, if any, homework, which gives them time for daily exercise. As for middle school students, teachers never spend time teaching the textbooks, and generally guide students to discuss related topics. “Besides learning, the most important task for middle school students is to have a clearer understanding of their abilities and interests, improve their social skills and have a basic plan for their future.” said Arie Slob, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education in the Netherlands.
12.What can we learn from the text?
A.Japanese students really like Chinese culture.
B.Students all welcome the double reduction policy in China.
C.Dutch children won’t spend time doing their homework.
D.Senior high students can choose their courses in New Zealand.
13.What can we infer from Arie Slob’s words?
A.Abilities are more important than interests.
B.Students should know more about themselves.
C.Teachers can not talk about textbooks in class.
D.A better plan for future must give students more chances.
14.The text mainly talks about students’ ___________.
A.interest B.ability C.lifestyle D.homework
In the mid-1950s, I was a bored boy student who believed that doing any more than necessary was wasted effort. One day, this approach threw me into embarrassment.
In Mrs. Totten’s eighth-grade math class at Central Avenue School in Anderson,Indiana, we were learning to add and subtract decimals
Our teacher typically assigned (布置) daily homework, which would be checked in class the following day. On most days, our grades were based on our oral answer to homework questions.
Mrs. Totten usually walked up and down the rows of desks requesting answers from student after student in the order the questions had appeared on our homework sheets. She would start either at the front or the back of the classroom and work toward the other end.
Since I was seated near the middle of about 35 students, it was easy to figure out which questions I might have to answer. This particular time, I had completed my usual two or three problems according to my calculations (计算).
However, what I failed to expect was that several students were absent. As Mrs. Totten made her way from the beginning of the class, I tried my best to think of and decide which math problem I would get. I tried to work it out before she got to me. but my brain couldn’t function at that moment.
When Mrs. Totten reached my desk, she asked what answer I’d got for problem No.14. “I...I didn’t get anything,” I answered, and my face burned with shame.
I thought a lot after class that day. Till now, I still remember what happened in that math class. If I could choose one school day that taught me the most, it would be that one.
15.Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?
A.The author thought making an effort was important.
B.Mrs. Totten asked students to grade their homework themselves.
C.The author thought doing the necessary was enough.

A.requested her students to finish their usual questions
B.walked up and down when asking questions
C.chose two or three questions for the students
D.asked questions in a way that the author was familiar with
17.The author failed to get the questions he had expected because________.
A.several students didn’t come to school
B.the class didn’t begin as usual
C.Mrs. Totten didn’t start from the back of the class
D.he suffered from a serious disease
18.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.A Creative Student B.An Unforgettable Teacher

(2022·吉林松原·高一阶段练习)It is difficult for a teacher to decide whether to allow students to listen to music in the classroom. Every time students need to write an essay or work on a problem, they say, “Can I put my headphones on? I think better that way.” But is that really true? Does music help concentrate?
Research offers little to back up the idea that listening to music improves concentration. In one small study, 133 students performed reading tasks while listening to either light music, hip hop, or no music at all. Students who performed the reading tasks in silence scored the highest. Music with a higher intensity (强度) like hip hop was more distracting and had a greater negative effect on task performance and concentration.
Volume (音量) plays a more important role than the type of music. The study found that the louder the music, the worse the performance in concentration. The type of music didn’t matter. Data from the study showed once again that silence was the best environment to improve concentration.
However, music has a positive effect on work performance. Studies have showed that listening to music leads to positive changes in mood, as well as creativity. In fact, in music-listening cultures, which students are certainly part of, there’s actually a change in mood when the music is taken away.
It’s hard to convince my students that music doesn’t help with their concentration. Taj, a senior told me, “I wouldn’t be able to concentrate if I were listening to music and trying to read. However, when I write, I feel like music helps me concentrate deeply. I don’t have writer’s block. It’s easy for me to put my words on paper.”
“Maybe not with reading, but when it comes to math, listening to music certainly helps,” Danela told me. “You could actually be singing along with what you’re listening to and doing well in math.”
19.What does the underlined word “distracting” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Worrying. B.Exciting. C.Interesting. D.Relaxing.
20.What can we learn from the small study?
A.Students do well in reading tasks while listening to music.
B.Music can’t improve people’s mood and creativity.
C.Different types of music lead to different performances.
D.The volume of music affects concentration.
21.What do Taj and Danela have in common?
A.They believe music doesn’t help concentrate.
B.They use music to help with their paper-writing.
C.They can’t focus on reading while listening to music.
D.They don’t listen to music while doing math problems.
22.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Should Students Listen to Music? B.Does Music Help Concentration?
C.Is Music Related to Reading? D.Can Music Change Mood?
(2022·江苏徐州·高一阶段练习)A few years ago, I stood in a small classroom just outside of New York City, watching a high schooler named Serena Stevenson answer math questions. An instructor read outnumbers — 74,470, 70,809, 98,402 — and Stevenson added them in her head. For each question, she closed her eyes, and then the fingers of her right hand began to move. She answered most of the problems correctly.
The key to her success was an ancient technology called the abacus. Stevenson used a practice called “mental abacus”, imagining the abacus in her mind and then using her fingers to work through the problems.
From watching Stevenson, I knew that gaining skill at the abacus was more than a matter of counting beads, so I decided to sign up for an abacus course with my two daughters to see if we could also improve our math skills. I was one of the many who had some math doubts and I felt a touch of fear. My typical solution was avoidance, and if I had to calculate something like a percentage change, I would go online.
Then after a few abacus classes and a good amount of practice, math seemed a little less frightening. I didn’t become Euclid, the founder of geometry. But the practice brought my numerical fears down. This is a time-tested power of the abacus. Confidence grows easily in the device, and abacus students are less likely to be nervous about an upcoming math test, according to one study. Part of the reason, it seems, is that practice and outcomes appear to move in step.
My kids gained much as well. My youngest daughter could work out those math problems that once baffled her, while my older child brought her abacus to school to show it to her classmates and teacher. These were just small successes for them, but that was how they finally developed confidence.
23.What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To prove the difficulty of math. B.To introduce the topic of the abacus.
C.To show the high intelligence of Stevenson. D.To stress the importance of abacus learning.
24.What do we know about the author from paragraph 3?
A.He was weak in math. B.He was good at computer.
C.He regarded math as useful. D.He had a close relationship with kids.
25.What does the author realize from his learning experience?
A.Knowledge starts with practice. B.It’s never too late to learn.
C.Faith can move mountains. D.Practice makes perfect.
26.What does the underlined word “baffled” in the last paragraph mean?
A.Bored. B.Inspired. C.Defeated. D.Interested.

(2022·福建龙岩·高一期中)Searching online has many educational benefits. But spending more time online does not mean better online skills. Instead, a student’s ability to successfully search online increases with guidance and clear instruction. Young people often think they are already skilled searchers. Their teachers and parents often think so too. This belief means much classroom practice centers on searching to learn, hardly on learning to search. Many teachers don’t teach students how to search online. Instead, students often teach themselves. This does not result in students learning the skills they need.
For six years, I studied how young Australians use search engines. Both school students and home-schoolers showed some characteristics (特点) of online searching that aren’t beneficial. For example, both groups spent greater time on irrelevant (不相关的) websites than relevant ones and stopped searches before finding their needed information.
Search engines offer endless educational chances, but I find many students typically only search for isolated (孤立) facts, and move on. In one observation, a home-school family type “How many endangered Sumatran Tigers are there” into Google. They enter a single website where they read a single sentence. They write this “answer” down and they begin the next topic—growing seeds.
The practice means people are no better off than they were 40 years ago with a print encyclopedia Why not use different keywords, sites and search tabs? The student could have learned much more.
The other thing young people should keep in mind to get the full benefits of searching online is to avoid fast search. All too often we believe search can be a fast process. The home-school families in my study spent 90 seconds or less, viewing each website and searched a new topic every four minutes. But searching so quickly can mean students don’t write useful search keywords or get the information they need.
30.What does the author mainly discuss in paragraph 1?
A.The importance of teaching online searching skills.
B.The educational benefits of searching online.
C.The classroom practice centering on learning to search.
D.The advantage of teaching oneself about searching online.
31.What did the author’s study find about Australian students?
A.They benefited most from using online information.
B.They spent little time on irrelevant websites.
C.They were usually experienced in using search engines.
D.They were often unable to find the needed search results.
32.Why does the author mention the home-school family?
A.To compare some popular online searching skills.
B.To show the important role of a print encyclopedia.
C.To give an example of only searching for isolated facts.
D.To explain a basic searching skill used by many students.
33.What is the author’s advice for students in the last paragraph?
A.Slow down when searching online. B.Try searching more new topics online.
C.Practice more to better searching skills. D.Change search keywords quickly if possible.

根据第一段第一句“In the mid-1950s, I was a bored boy student who believed that doing any more than necessary was wasted effort. (在20世纪50年代中期,我还是一个无聊的男生,认为做任何不必要的事情都是白费力气。)”可知,作者当年认为做必要的事就足够了。故选C项。
16.细节理解题。由第四段中的“Mrs. Totten usually walked up and down the rows of desks requesting answers from student after student in the order the questions had appeared on our homework sheets. (托顿夫人经常在一排排的课桌前走来走去,按照作业纸上的问题出现的顺序一个接一个地要求学生回答问题。)”和第五段中的“Since I was seated near the middle of about 35 students, it was easy to figure out which questions I might have to answer. (因为我坐在大约35个学生中间,所以很容易弄清楚我可能要回答哪些问题。)”可知,因为老师总是有规律的提问,坐在中间位置的作者已经摸清老师的提问规律,提前确定自己要回答作业纸上的哪些问题。因为老师总是用自己熟悉的方式提问,所以作者可以想出该回答哪些问题。故选D项。
17.细节理解题。由第六段中的“However, what I failed to expect was that several students were absent. As Mrs. Totten made her way from the beginning of the class, I tried my best to think of and decide which math problem I would get. I tried to work it out before she got to me. but my brain couldn’t function at that moment. (然而,我没有想到的是有几个学生缺席了。当托顿夫人从这堂课开始时一路走过来,我尽我最大的努力去思考和决定我要做哪道数学题。我想在她找到我之前解决问题。但那一刻我的大脑无法运转。)”和第七段“When Mrs. Totten reached my desk, she asked what answer I’d got for problem No.14. ‘I…I didn’t get anything,’ I answered, and my face burned with shame. (托顿夫人走到我的桌前,问我第14题的答案是什么。‘我……我不知道,’我回答,我的脸因羞愧而发红。)”可知,因为那天有几个学生没来上学,破坏了回答问题的顺序,作者就没有回答出问题。故选A项。
通读全文,尤其是最后一段“I thought a lot after class that day. Till now, I still remember what happened in that math class. If I could choose one school day that taught me the most, it would be that one.

根据第二段第一句“Research offers little to back up the idea that listening to music improves concentration.(研究几乎没有证据表明,听音乐能提高注意力。)”可知,本段主要讨论听音乐是否能提高注意力,结合画线单词上文和下文“Music with a higher intensity (强度) like hip hop was more distracting had a greater negative effect on task performance and concentration.(高强度的音乐,如嘻哈音乐更distracting,对任务表现和注意力有更大的负面影响。)”
根据第三段中的“The study found that the louder the music, the worse the performance in concentration.(研究发现,音乐声音越大,注意力表现越差。)”
根据倒数第二段中的“Taj, a senior told me “I wouldn’t be able to concentrate if I were listening to music and trying to read.(Taj,一个高年级学生,他告诉我,“如果我听音乐,试图阅读,我就无法集中注意力”)”和最后一段中的““Maybe not with reading, but when it comes to math, listening to music certainly helps,” Danela told me.(Danela告诉我:“听音乐也许对阅读没有好处,但是当涉及到数学时,听音乐肯定有帮助。”)”可知,Taj和Danela的共同之处在于,他们在听音乐时,无法集中精力阅读,故选C。
22.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“It is difficult for a teacher to decide whether to allow students to listen to music in the classroom. Every time students need to write an essay or work on a problem, they say, “Can I put my headphones on? I think better that way.” But is that really true?

根据第一段“For each question, she closed her eyes, and then the fingers of her right hand began to move. She answered most of the problems correctly.(对于每一个问题,她都闭上眼睛,然后她右手的手指开始移动。她正确地回答了大部分问题)”以及第二段“The key to her success was an ancient technology called the abacus.(她成功的关键是一种叫做算盘的古老技术)”可推知,第一段的主要目的是引出算盘这个主题。故选B。
根据第三段“From watching Stevenson, I knew that gaining skills on the abacus was more than a matter of counting beads, so I decided to sign up for an abacus course with my two daughters to see if we could also improve our math skills. I was one of the many who held some math doubts and I felt a touch of fear of math. My typical solution was avoidance, and if I had to calculate something like a percentage change, I would go online.(通过观察史蒂文森,我知道掌握珠算技能不仅仅是数珠子,所以我决定和我的两个女儿报名参加一个珠算课程,看看我们是否也能提高我们的数学技能。我是许多对数学有疑虑的人之一,我对数学有一丝恐惧。我的典型解决方案是回避,如果我必须计算一个百分比变化,我会上网)”可推知,作者的数学不好。故选A。
根据倒数第二段“Then after a few abacus classes and a good amount of practice, math seemed a little less frightening. I didn’t become Euclid, the founder of geometry. But the practice brought my numerical fears down. This is a time-tested power of the abacus.(经过几节算盘课和大量的练习,数学似乎没那么可怕了。我没有成为欧几里得,几何学的奠基人。但这种做法消除了我对数字的恐惧。这是一种久经考验的算盘的力量)”可推知,作者从他的学习经历中意识到熟能生巧。故选D。
26.词句猜测题。根据最后一段中“These were just small successes for them, but that was how they finally developed confidence.(对他们来说,这些只是小小的成功,但这就是她们最终建立自信的方式)”以及画线词上文“My kids gained much as well. My youngest daughter could work out those math problems that once baffled her (孩子们也从算盘中收获良多,最小的女儿也解开了曾经baffled自己的数学题)”可知,孩子们学算盘学的不错,获得成功,可得出最小的女儿也解开了曾经打败自己的数学题,故画线词意思是“打败”。故选C。

28.推理判断题。根据文中校长的话“I shall be keeping an eye on his progress in his weaker subjects though his success in the sciences is most pleasing. (虽然他在科学方面的成功令人非常高兴,但我将密切关注他在较弱学科方面的进展)”可知,校长会关注Simon较弱的学科。根据表格中的分数及评语“History 46/53: A disappointing exam result. He is unable to give attention to this subject for long. (历史46/53分:令人失望的考试结果。他无法长期关注这个科目。)以及French 41/46: Clearly he didn't bother to revise. His general attitude is far too casual. (法语41/46分:显然,他没有认真修改。他的态度太随便了。)”可知,Simon的历史和法语是薄弱学科。故选B项。

30.主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“Searching online has many educational benefits.”(网上搜索有很多教育上的好处。)以及“But spending more time online does not mean better online skills. Instead, a student’s ability to successfully search online increases with guidance and clear instruction.”(但是花更多的时间上网并不意味着更好的上网技能。 和“Many teachers don’t teach students how to search online.”(许多老师不教学生如何在线搜索。) 故选A。
根据文章第二段“For six years, I studied how young Australians use search engines. Both school students and home-schoolers showed some characteristics of online searching that aren’t beneficial. For example, both groups spent greater time on irrelevant websites than relevant ones and stopped searches before finding their needed information.”(六年以来,我一直在研究澳大利亚年轻人如何使用搜索引擎。
根据文章第三段“Search engines offer endless educational chances, but I find many students typically only search for isolated facts, and move on.”(搜索引擎提供了无穷无尽的教育机会,但我发现许多学生通常只搜索孤立的事实,然后继续前进。)
根据文章最后一段“The other thing young people should keep in mind to get the full benefits of searching online is to avoid fast search.”(为了充分利用网络搜索的好处,年轻人应该记住的另一件事是避免快速搜索。) 故选A。
