VI. Choose the best answer(根据文章内容,选择最恰当的答案)
What do you think of your school? Have you ever expressed your ideas to your teachers or the headmaster? The following are the posts in an online chat room. Students from different schools have written down their thoughts.
Friday 2020/06/19 | |
Johnathon, 14, Grade Eight of Thomas Science and Technology Academy I’d like to make some suggestions about our school uniform. In the school, we students have to wear uniforms every day. But the dark red and gray sportswear looks dark and old. It can’t stand for young and active spirit. We can add some white or orange colors and make a new type of uniform. I hope our headmaster will think about my idea. | Frank, 15, Grade Nine of Mill Hill School I’d like to say thank you to my headmaster. About half a month ago, my left ankle was badly hurt when I was playing basketball. Our headmaster saw it and came to me. He also took some ice cubes for me and took care of me until my parents came. I just want to thank him for that. |
Larry, 15, Grade Nine of Lakeside School I have two suggestions for my headmaster. First of all, I think we should have more courses like STEM, Drama or Robot programming. It is quite boring to study basic subjects all the time. And second, I hope we can have more teaching equipment for teachers and students. Some students now don’t have laptop computers to program their robots and some teachers also need 3D printers to build some special model bridges for Physics teaching. | Mandy, 15, Grade Nine of Brook Avenue High School Today I want to talk about the possibility of personal classes. Now many high schools are trying the “personal class” system. Besides some regular classes, students can choose some more lessons they want to take. I think it is more effective. And it is also good for us. We don’t have to stay in one classroom all the time. We can meet more teachers and students. |

VI. Choose the best answer(根据短文内容,选择最恰当的答案)(12分)
Many doctors say that sleep can change our health. If we want our bodies to work well, we need sleep. If people don’t have enough sleep, they can suffer from depression(抑郁)and illnesses such as heart disease.
The most obvious effect of not having enough sleep is to make us weaker and it makes it harder to fight illness; in other words, people who do not sleep enough are more likely to get sick or ill.
Studies in the USA have found that 60 percent of the adults often have sleep problems. Among them, more than 20 percent say that they feel sleepy in the daytime and that this makes their lives difficult. At least 40 million people in the USA suffer from sleep problems that need treatment, but very few people actually go to a doctor about it.
So what are the things that affect sleep? Well, finally, there is noise. If there are noises such as barking dripping(滴水的)taps or loud music, you’ll probably find it difficult to sleep. What is interesting is that women seem to notice noise more than men, while young children do not notice noise so much as adults.
It you are sitting in a chair, you will find it very difficult to sleep. But you will probably have no problem falling asleep if you are lying down. This is another thing that affects sleep. We need to be horizontal and we need to have enough space.
A third thing affecting sleep is temperature. You may have noticed that you have difficulty sleeping if it is very hot or cold.
Altitude can change the way we sleep. If you are at an altitude of over 4,000m, you need to breathe differently because you don’t have as much oxygen. It will take you about two weeks to get used to this.
So, if you want to sleep well, please do not exercise before you go to bed. Do not drink alcohol or drinks like coffee. Do try to relax. We hope this helps. Sleep well.
